Ghetto Dope

When deciding what you want to do with your life, (specifically your career) should you....

1. Do what you love, even if it doesn't pay well?
2. Choose a profession to pursue, in order to make good money?  (doctor, lawyer, etc.)

Nothing like a warm bowl of fried rice....

Most people are too stupid to do the later, so go with something you love.

Did I just step into some type of troll bait topic?

1.  Because if you hate what you do for your life you might as well just not do anything. Seems like a waste to work for money and still hate yourself for doing it.

I choose 1

Do what you like or you will be miserable.

Agreed.

1 is the better choice.

I guess the trick is finding something you love.

Get money, get paid.

I don't choose either of those.  I'm just going to win the lottery instead.

Hell yea, revision time.

3. Win the damn lottery!

Even if you're intelligent if you don't like being a doctor you probably won't be a great doctor. It's a waste of that intelligence and talent to have a well paid and important job if you aren't passionate and driven to excel at what you do. For sure though, doing something you love is the best way to go, well paid or not.

Doing what you like usually doesn't pay.

However, after looking at how tough those first two years of Med School are, well shit, talk about serious weed out classes! Plus the high cost, something like nearly $100k for 4 years or more.  If you're paying for it, you better get your money's worth & then get paid afterwards.

I fixed your post, Stang.  I guarantee I'm not too stupid to get a great job and make a ton of money.  I just don't care to make a ton of money when I have the knowledge that we're all going to die one day.  I don't want to work my ass off just to miss out on most of life.

"There's so much to see and we're so far behind..."

I also wholeheartedly agree with "get money, fuck bitches".

Definitely #1.  No matter how much money you make, you will always be miserable no amount of money can cure that.

A good in-between would be nice...but #1 would for sure be the way to go.

I used the word most, meaning the majority. The term is not all inclusive. Nobody said you fell in the the "most" category, so why take it that way?

IMO, some people love money (too much), some people love to work at a challenging job even if they don't necessarily enjoy the work. Some people just like to be miserable. Most of the people that fall into these groups don't even see happiness as a consideration, or think that money will make them happy, so they pursue it vigorously. I say, that if you asked this question, you fall into the group that would rather enjoy your work.

I say, view it as a matter of extremes.... what's more important, being filthy rich, or being as happy as you could possibly be (not that they're mutually exclusive, it's just not often that people get filthy rich doing something they love)? Then get out there and find a way to make it happen the way that's best for you.

I would rather have way less money then be miserable.

I like Mike Rowe's opinion on this topic: American Labor.

He's got some good points. :)
