Chanting monks aside, it's easy to forget the solid, well honed brilliance of much of the halo soundtrack. Beyond the rousing call to arms of the main theme, there is a surprising degree of nuance in the score.

Standing in for the franchise as a whole, sons of liberty was the first time I really recognised the scope of the score in a metal gear game. The big Hollywood guns of Harry Gregson Williams were brought on in this installment and the resulting score is a diverse yet pitch perfect mix of electronic, operatic and jazz pieces.
