Games which feature excellent music.

All of these games in one way or another present brilliant music to enhance their gameplay.

  • Easily the best of the bunch, each episode ends on a sublimely chosen licensed track while the original score perfectly accompanies sweeping vistas and foreboding forests alike.

  • This soundtrack adroitly encapsulates the work of Ennio Morricone and the ambiance of every notable Western to deliver an enthralling old west vibe throughout. It also makes excellent use of licensed tracks during particularly immense moments for a memorable experience.

  • The juxtaposition of a cheery cavalcade of old jazz and swing classics with the grim, post apocalyptic ultra violence of the capital wasteland give fallout 3 an indelible charm indicative of the franchise.

  • The immense landscapes of Oblivion call for an equally vast and bombastic score. This soundtrack delivers in epic, rousing spades.

  • Each installment of the franchise delivers a smorgasbord of operatic beauty, but for my money, the serene and whimsical score of final fantasy IX is the one I remember most fondly.

  • Chanting monks aside, it's easy to forget the solid, well honed brilliance of much of the halo soundtrack. Beyond the rousing call to arms of the main theme, there is a surprising degree of nuance in the score.

  • Standing in for the franchise as a whole, sons of liberty was the first time I really recognised the scope of the score in a metal gear game. The big Hollywood guns of Harry Gregson Williams were brought on in this installment and the resulting score is a diverse yet pitch perfect mix of electronic, operatic and jazz pieces.

  • The music here runs the gamut between sunny optimism and gray depression, and is often just as mesmeric and complex as the game itself.

  • Few songs can convey 20 years of history and hardship within a character the way old snake does, every string conveys the pain and past of snake as both he and and our relationship with his long running tale come to an end.

  • A wonderful soundtrack that ranges from funky and laidback to chillingly off-putting.
