They are killing Netflix shows so they can launch their new streaming service.
Putting middle-weight Marvel hero shows on their new service will not get me to sign up anymore than putting a middle-weight Star Trek got me to sign up with CBS All Access... but good luck to them I guess?
@cjduke: Many of the employees will be out of a job when the game ships. With no unions in the game industry and contract piecework so prevalent you can expect most games to drop 75% or more of the staff between projects.
So no it won't hurt employees it will hurt the company execs and shareholders who want bonuses or returns on investments. A contract employee can only hope they will be picked up by the studio on another project and not thrown away to seek work in an industry that just saw over 1000 people get laid off.
There are a LOT of games out there to play and many of them are created by small indie devs or studios with better labor policies. Studios like Iron Galaxy perhaps? Or Klei Entertainment?
Give some other games a try and in 6 months pick it up. You can still enjoy the game and most of the cash the game makes by then will be outside the project window where they expect to make big returns for investors and executive bonuses. Hell you can probably get the game on the cheap too with some free DLC for their GotY edition or whatever.
This is an issue I'm having with Switch as well. I don't have a lot of place to use this as a portable handheld so I was looking for some first party bangers. And Smash or Mario Party just don't fall into that category for me.
What I can't figure out at all is why there isn't a bloody Mario 2D platformer on the device yet! They only have a port of Mario U scheduled in 2019. Mario 3 (the best one!) is only available if you subscribe to their service. They clearly have it running on the device why not sell it?
I don't need the indie bangers of 2016-2017 on my Switch. The PC already has those games. Is it so much to ask for Nintendo first party love on their flagship (semi portable) console?
I can highly recommend grabbing yourself a novel and doing a read. Sometimes it's nice to have something to just sink into that's not constantly tugging at your brain like a skinner box.
I'd suggest trying out the Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson if you haven't already. It's the one that Vinny has been mildly flogging for on the Beastcast for the past little while. Or Micheal J Sullivan's Riyria Revelations if you like the idea of a fantasy buddy cop story.
It's a good show in everything except for the whole "frame drop" style. They say it was by design but it just looks like their rendering software was hitching, especially during the slower scenes. It feels like early tech RWBY where characters sometimes looked overly stiff when moving during slow sequences.
Otherwise the show seems engaging enough. While no one will ever replicate the original Avatar this is probably as close as we're going to get to having something new from that creative team for the foreseeable future. I'm happy with what they're selling.
