I cheated, and I liked it.

So I've been playing a lot of No Man's sky like most of you have. It was super interesting at first, but once I got the loop of the game down, it really started to just feel like this slog, where discovering a new planet felt like driving to work.

That is not to say I didn't have enjoyment getting to see those new planets. It's the whole reason I decided to buy the game, even while knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. However, I misjudged how long I could keep it up.

A few options came up, I could return the game, but I really didn't want to give up the exploration aspect of the game. I was just sitting there thinking I could return it, but also thinking about seeing what kind of planet would be in the next star system over.

So I came to my next and final option, cheating. I don't like cheating on the first run through of a game. I want to experience it as it was intended. After beating it though, all bets are off. I'll mod/cheat the hell out of anything if it'll let me. Now anyway, I decide to search for some trainers, and sure enough there were a few already out there. I downloaded one. I felt real dirty.

It was the usual collection of stuff, your infinite health and ammo or whatever. Then got to the game specific stuff, like what I think is unlimited resource stacks, no radiation, and stuff that basically made the game an entirely care free walking simulator. I didn't want that. I didn't like mining for stuff, but I do like upgrading my multi-tool and then getting to use it and have it feel like a whole new weapon. So infinite resources and no damage/radiation where out.

What really caught my eye though were those fat ass ships coming in and out of port on the space stations. I came across one that had 30 inventory slots. That may as well be infinite the early game. I had to have it, sadly it cost 3.5 million units. I was only sitting at about 600,000 at the time so that wasn't happening. However, what also wasn't happening was me flying back and forth to the damn space station to dump my shit constantly. That was no fun. It had to change.

Infinite money here we go! I activated it, and my money slowly started to crawl up faster and faster, until it stopped at 99,999,999. Here is where I decided that instead of infinite money, I just gave my self one of those EA time booster packs and deactivated the cheat. I was able to buy two more ships which now I sit at 43 inventory slots, and a newer hyper-drive (that I was close to building anyway) that really lets me jump around.

Again I felt super dirty doing this, but I stared at my gigantic inventory, and my god it was beautiful. I stopped there because I simply didn't have enough money to buy the next ship, which cost upwards around 50,000,000 creds. So now I got a space truck and it can hold a lot of stuff. To be honest I'm not moving any faster to the center of the galaxy or anything like that. I just now get to spend way more time focusing on exploring and finding shit rather than keeping and eye out for a trading post or hoping a shelter has a marketplace just so you can free up one or two slots of inventory. Of course this always happens right before you find a kick ass upgrade that requires 200 of the thing you just sold all of. Now that is all in the past, and space is super fun again.

JUST LOOK AT IT!!! FUN!

So yeah, whatever. I'm sure some of you are offended I cheated, and you wouldn't be wrong. I offended myself in doing so, but I don't care. I do care that that the game is super fun for me again, and I offer this as a suggestion to those who are in the same boat I was. People who want to explore but not worry about resource management or constantly hitting roadblocks (self imposed I guess) because you are just short a mineral or two for an upgrade. Sure that's a large part of the game, but that part sucks.

Oh yeah and did I mention there are cheats for infinite jet pack and super speed?

Those are preeeeety neat. Just be careful or you might end up in less than savory predicaments:

FUN!
FUN!

tl:dr Inventory cheats/mods are always awesome.
