I would also like to remind everyone that there exists and has existed for many years a service you can take advantage of for just such a game: Rentals. You don't have to buy and own every single game you wish to try. Just rent the damn thing if you're curious. If you like it, there ya go, you can buy it! Then you're out a few bucks instead of up to $65.

Not everyone here is from the US. That service does not exist in most parts of the world.

Then obviously the comment didn't apply to you. I don't get your point.

Two stars?! Ouch. I've pretty much read and seen nothing but negative things about this game. I think it's sort of funny because Kojima is like this rockstar game dev who seems to be getting himself into all sorts of shenanigans, hearing now that he's wanting to expand into movies/television.

The way I see it, I'm paying for the chance to experience an auteur's vision of some form of America. I'd do the same for great contemporary film directors. For now, I'm mostly getting interpretations and reactions to Kojima's vision which aren't responses to technical failures or broken mechanics, but disappointment rooted in expectations derived from a source I'm not sure I possess. I will, however, discover that tomorrow.

It sounds like the expectation was for a game that was fun and interesting, so I guess you're technically right?

The economy, specifically the big prizes, would've been better served by having bananas used to purchase prizes be purged from the economy (eaten/thrown away) rather than put back into the bank. Having the price go up was good, but changing the wheel to have more devastating losses would've been better as well. Lose 5 becomes 10, then 20, then 30, etc. But keep the winnings at +5. Really drag it out. Because I want to keep watching this show!

Also, some sort of punishment for failure. Didn't get a golden banana? Lose 25 bananas. Had 3 or more turns in an episode and got 0 golden bananas? Eat all your bananas. There has to be a reason to want to do anything besides spinning the wheel, to keep people on their toes!

Does this game have the worst case of people seeking positive confirmation bias in history? She had a bad take. It's gonna be ok. Vinny will likely have lots of positive stuff to say about it.

The irony of this post is pretty good. People didn't think it was a good QL. It's gonna be ok. We all still love Abby just as much as before, we (I assume, I can't speak for everyone) just think this one really, REALLY missed the mark in a pretty unfortunate way.

Perhaps, and I know this may be saying too much to the EXCEPTIONALLY pro CRPG crowd here in these comments, CRPG's like this make bad first impressions?

I dunno, I was going to avoid this game specifically because it was a cRPG and I hate how they look and play, as well as the disconnected perspective. But then I saw a brief video review showing off what the game actually was and I gave it a shot. First impressions were that it was incredible. Impressions now that I'm what I assume about halfway through it are that it's easily my top game of the year, if not the past several years.

As someone who thinks the cRPG genre is full of neat ideas hampered by ancient game design and bad (for me at least) combat, this was an eye opening experience. The lack of combat actually made it better, because it never feels like they're setting up some sort of roadblock encounter to waste your time. There doesn't feel like there's any filler, just good shit after good shit. I don't even like bleak and dreary settings, but the mix of sad-but-thoughtful-if-not-spiteful people in a setting that is both beautiful and tragic feels like a friggin' work of art. I don't even know what Abby meant by overly sexual, it's like one of the least sexual games I've ever played.

@xbob42: Yeah no, sod off. CCP's actions in HK are undefendable but so is the US military industrial complex. Most of the countries didn't welcome the US with wide open arms, they were strong armed into it, not to mention the numerous atrocities committed under US imperialism in Vietnam and the Middle East. So fuck off with your US army whitewashing you neocon boot licking scum.

Wow, for being strong-armed into it those countries sure do enjoy not breaking off and building their own military power to defend their sovereignty from the evil U.S. empire. It's almost like it's a mutually beneficial relationship that they not only actively participate in, but bend over backwards to keep. But yeah, they're totally strong-armed into it. If you're so zealously against it, grow a backbone and help do something about it, or continue your impotent ranting on video game video comment sections.

I find it delightfully telling that the only defense people have of China in the comments section is "well Americans should shut up, hurr durr empire, hurr durr military overreach!"

I know when I'm out to defend something, I'll have zero points on why what I'm defending is right and instead just build a strawman to burn. I mean, if you're gonna talk about the military overreach of the U.S. government and therefore that's the reason Americans should "shut up," that automatically makes your government complicit as well since it's thanks to that "overreach" that so many nations around the world spend so little on their own militaries, their economies have largely been strengthened by not having to spend massive capital on such things. The "overreach" has been welcomed loudly by America's allies for decades. So in other *other* words, if Americans should shut up about China, you should, too. Because you're part of the problem.

There's nothing about China to defend, and so you don't defend it, you attack another nation instead. Well, I can call my President a fucking twat or a peerless god and nobody's going to bust down my door and make me "apologize" about it, so fuck right off with that nonsense.
