Things that go bump in the night 0

If you like story driven games that are slow burners with heaps of atmosphere than this game is definitely for you. Alan Wake is more a TV show than a game, and the premise is fresh and fun.The graphics won't be pushing your PC to the limit, but the world is vividly imagined with minute realistic details. I loved the way the trees were swaying during my nocturnal flights of fear. There were murmurs of complaint that the game wasn't scary enough nor that it had enough action. I found the game a fu...

Hits the spot 0

I love dystopian sci-fi. I love eye candy and palpable atmosphere. Same goes for tight responsive controls combined with innovative gameplay. This game is short and sweet, like a light snack. What is lacks in game time it more than makes up for in pure fun. The game truly hits its stride with the co-op, which is surprisingly successful, challenging and really forces you to join forces with your companions: constantly watching their backs and breathing a sigh of relieve when somebody saves your as...

The Big Bad Bat is Back 0

This game is an incredible virtual experience of the comic books. It is clear that the makers trawled through the comics and incorporated as much from the lore as they could.Initially I found the game disorientating. It is big and wide and open though the main story and sub-plots are bee-line straight. Moreover they aren't interwoven so you can get lost. The graphics are...well, I have a ATI Sapphire and this game is optimized for Geforce and I've had to disable all DX11 features. Not only that b...

Faces and Expressions unlike anything you've ever seen. 0

I like games which are interactive novels or movies. L.A. Noire neatly meets this criteria and brilliantly recreates a colourful period of L.A.'s history.I have never seen a game populated by believable characters who inspire compassion in the player. Nor have I seen real faces with real emotions, from the slight twitch of nervousness to red-faced, bulging eyes of fear.I didn't pay this game for its challenges or playablity. I want to be immersed in a world and interact with the environment. I w...

Things that go bump in the night. 0

I eagerly seek out anything based on H.P. Lovecraft's books. Amnesia has found a great balance between keeping the hair on he back of you standing on end and throwing fairly easy yet stimulating puzzles at you. You piece together the story by exploring the environment and finding notes, memory charged objects and through reading texts on load pages. The atmosphere is top-notch, controls easy and responsive and the voice acting mostly good.I feel that the game was building up to a climax that didn...

The best bad good game ever. 0

Mirror's edge oozes originality. The beautifully rendered city-scapes are believable and an awesome playground. The gameplay is mostly fun, but when you are stuck or the game doesn't respond properly it can be down-right jarring.I wanted to throw in the towel several times. The story is is bland and doesn't create in you sympathy towards the main character nor do you car about what you are and why.But when the game works, and it often does, it can be breathtaking and exhilarating. The colours ar...

Get your pulse racing 0

Pre-release images of thee game left me positively salivating. And has this game come through in spades, especially the campaign. I don't quite get what people find so disappointing in the story, it's war and Battlefield has always tried to make it as realistic as possible. Obviously the set-pieces and wow-moments were lifted from COD, but so what? The co-op is fun and a good way to get some chopper practice. However, I was mildly annoyed at the absence of check-points.The multi-player positively...

Eye candy with a delicious dollop of atmosphere 0

I am a game connoisseur, not a pro. That is to say and am very well informed and seek out specific experiences. I love platforming, especially the modern incarnation of scaling tall structures with breath-taking vistas. This game has lovely art, a whimsical but sufficient story, and very easy controls. Aided by the ever-present button prompts I was never at at a loss.I hate being frustrated when playing. I loathe breaking a sweat. I want an interactive story or movie. Prince of Persia fits the bi...

Be all you can be in the Bat suit. 0

A buddy and I were talking about what we fantasized about being as kids. He wanted to be a cowboy and was enraptured with Red Dead. Me - I wanted to be the world's greatest detective.Arkham Asylum is a gift from heaven. Never before have I been able to get under the skin of the Dark Knight. Everything in this game rings true. The controls and fighting mechanics are smooth as can be, the world beautifully created and simply dripping with ambiance and dark, Gothic atmosphere. The characters you come...

Who's the baddest badass of them all? 0

Word to the wise: this is not a run and gun game. You have to suss things out, be patient and, above all, work as a team.It took me an embarrassingly long time to learn these lessons and graduate from cannon-fodder and Epic Failee to bona fida killing machine. In Bad Company 2 I have experienced some of my most exhilarating gaming moments, as well as the most excruciating. More often than not I am in the grip of an intense adrenaline rush with razor sharp senses doing my best to outwit my opponen...

Thinking with portals ...and outside the box 0

Portal 2 surpassed my fondest expectations. I was surprisingly amused with the 1st installment and utterly enthralled with the sequel. This an absolute gem of a game. Lost of surprises and challenges along the way. Who would have thought that the evil AI would go through such a dramatic transformation? The co-op is great, though here in Brazil it is hard to find a regular partner to play through the game.I am really grateful to have played such a marvelous game and wholeheartedly recommended this ...

Fun...for a while 0

Trine tells a simple tale set in a fantasy world fabulously created full of colour and surprising detail.Based on the positive reviews I expected quite a lot. Mostly the game kept me happy and entertained. I thought the puzzle elements were fun and switching between characters was a novel way of playing the game. The control, though, are less than stellar. I bought the game to play with my wife, who hardly ever plays games, and it was simply too difficult for her to jump to the different platform...

All the pretty colours 0

Fun run-and-gun game. It is great to be aiming at stuff around enemies (instead of the enemies themselves) and letting all hell loose and triggering lots of great visual effects. It feels like you are wandering alleys taken from Blade Runner, which is great fun though the scenery can get a little repetitive sometimes. The game might be on the short side, however I think I'll get it another crack to keep on building my character and to discover secrets.Great title from another small Polish develop...
