Best of SNES - Work in progress!

List items

  • Contra: The Alien Wars is my favourite game of all time. Never will I forget how it (or better: Super Probotector, as it was called in Germnay) blew me away in 1992, when I first saw its mutants & robots mixture of enemies and listened to its driving soundtrack. What really makes it worth while for me is the need for precision. I love games that are difficult, but with the right timing and strategy you can overcome any obstacle - not by chance, but with skills. That's why Contra III has a special place in my heart.

  • The best platformer ever created - that's what I like to think about SMW. As the debut game on the SNES, it not only showed off the hardware's power, but also demonstrated the pure genius in Nintendo's game design. Even today, there is not much - if any - competition for SMW.

  • The original fun racer - and the best there is, was and ever will be. SNES-MK is a perfect example why designing a racing game should not rely on sheer mass (tracks & cars), but offer a core of perfectly balanced yet challenging courses.

  • My very first Final Fantasy game, and it still impresses me today. I like the characters more than in any other FF, the storylines are well written and it offers the right level of challenge to make it more than a walkthrough. It is crammed to the brink with little details, nice gags and awkward situations. It entertains, surprises and makes the player feel for his heroes who desperately try to save the world from evil. Not to mention the brilliant soundtrack, which made me look for Japanese import CDs for the first time.

  • Four good players, a comfortable couch, some snacks and drinks and a whole night to play - that's the Bomberman setup. The first SNES installment is limited in options, but that's what makes it so charming. No fiddling around, just pure gameplay. Best multiplayer game ever.
