I have been looking forever and hope that someone here has a solution. My goal is to find a standalone microphone that I can wear without an earphone headset. I like hearing my home theater surround system while playing versus putting on a pair of earphones, but it is hard to find a mic that isn't obligated to have a full earphone assembly attached. I've used cheap earphone assemblies before and just dangled the earphones around my neck, but that is not optimal. I have looked all over websites trying to find something not attached to earphones, but they all seem to be proprietary to wireless systems for PAs. Because I am wanting a mic to use while I have my home theater system blaring, I have been looking for unidirectional on-body mics or shotgun desktop mics. I play games on my couch a bit away from the speakers.

Does anyone have a good solution? I'm not bothering paying more than $50, which to get a earphone+mic solution is easy, but hard to find something that is just the mic.

@yellownumber5: Thanks for the heads up. The whole idea behind GOG is to make older games run on modern hardware, so despite the negative opinions of the port, I'm happy to at least try it for free.

Saints Row 2 is probably my favorite in the series, as well. The downright crazy direction the series went in afterwards was a lot of fun, but I don't think the storytelling was ever better than it was in Saints Row 2. That British male voice was a lot of fun to use, as well. Turned the protagonist into someone who sounded like they were taken from an early Guy Richie film.

I agree that it is my favorite Saint's Row as well. It is that perfect transition between trying to be a serious GTA clone and being it's own goofy thing. It is more a parody of the open world gaming culture where I felt 3 was trying too hard to separate itself. The character I created was a perfect rendition of Kim Jung Il before he died, or a perfect rendition of Margaret Cho doing Il, and I would crack up every time I got a close up of her running down the street with an assault rifle. The co-op multiplayer was especially fun too.

I will take advantage of this, though be warned - this is a notoriously horrible port.

I think GB did some kind of quicklook or UPF of the PC port, maybe with Vinny?, but I don't remember when and it's not on the wiki page.

@freedom4556: Thanks for the tips on VR. Watching some of Drew's stream is what made me think about it again, but I was worried about handling controls while wearing a headset. I do like the idea you can just look at your interface in VR. It was the first thing I bought on the Oculus store, so I'm not sure I can not play it in VR.

@emumford: I do have an old basic Logitec hotas that works, it moves smooth, has some buttons and a throttle I modified to be on the stick, but not nearly the buttons you get on something like the X-52, and it doesn't have a separate throttle. For House of the Dying Sun, I set up the controls to play with the hotas in my right hand, and used the left side and thumbstick of a standard controller in the left hand. I'm hoping I have enough buttons with all that for E:D. I'm playing in VR, so I don't have the option to use a keyboard.

Thanks for everyone for the advice and stories. I'll dip my toe in when I get some time this week.

So I have been sitting on an install of E:D through all 2016. Something keeps me from playing it, especially since I have a Rift and a neglected hotas only getting occasional use from House of the Dying sun. The same thing keeping me from even opening it up E:D to try it out is the same thing that made me excited yet apprehensive to ever get past the logon screen on EVE:Online. The scope of it sounds overwhelming, and I also don't have all the time in the world to spend on expansive games. Oddly, I have spent a couple hundred hours on No Man's Sky, probably because it's a fairly risk-free and objective-free game that lets me wander around saying "oh pretty" while listening to music or podcasts.

Before people scream at me to just open up the damn thing and play it, I would just like to know what people get out of the game, or at least people's first experiences getting into the game.

It cut out a few times on me for several seconds each time. Otherwise it worked perfectly fine. Would need another trial to see if it's a regular thing. Still like it better than Twitch. That always took forever to load. And the latency is bad on Youtube. Beam might be an acceptable compromise if it only cuts out on rare occasions.

The last time I bought a console for a single game or franchise was the original XBOX for Halo so I could be part of the LAN parties. Otherwise I bought a console for the promise of a suite of games, not a single franchise. Once everything was nearly universally cross-platform by the end of the 360/PS3 cycle, exclusivity was no longer important anyway. Then I built a PC which gets almost everything now and more. Haven't thought of a console since. I no longer buy new consoles, just upgrade hardware, which I guess is similarly motivated by a game. I upgraded earlier this year for VR, and Dirt Rally was a primary motivator.

I hope this isn't a silly question, but has anyone heard if this will be on PC? I've stopped consoling this generation.

Thanks.

This search also led me to Etsy, where the avant-garde can add a whole new meaning to your Rift when sitting on your desk and looking pretty. Trust me, I was strongly considering something stupid like this till I thought of my wife and stretching her already considerable understanding of me buying a Rift.
