Kameo was a bit disappointing. 0

Kameo has alot in common with Star Fox Adventures.  Well, for one, they're both Rare games.  The other big connection is they were both in production with previous gen-systems and they were both released early in their new gen systems lifespan.  They're also both inspired by the Legend of Zelda in a way.  I think I had more fun with Star Fox Adventures.  It had it's share of problems too, but I just wasn't feeling it with Kameo.  The dungeons were extremely lame, boss fights were to easy, the st...

Opoona was shockingly fun. 1

Overall, I enjoyed Opoona. I loved the art style, the battle system was super fun and the overall game was charming.  Opoona has a ton of problems, including the tendency to rely on backtracking fetch quests, no voice work, terrible town designs, and poorly translated dialog.  However, I think the good ideas in this game, out weigh the bad.   I had little to no expectations for Opoona.  It got beat up across the board by reviewers, and I just didn't follow the game at all.  I just knew the art s...

Tales of Destiny II was one best and last PS1 RPGs. 0

Tales of Destiny (proper name: Tales of Eternia) was the first Tales of.. game to reach the States.  It wasn't a hit, but whoever thought to localize this game thought it was a good idea to release it as Tales of Destiny II so it wouldn't confuse people.  In the long run it was a bad idea, as they eventually re-made Tales of Destiny on the PS2 and then gave it a sequel, Tales of Destiny II.  So just like there's two Final Fantasy II and III's, there is also two Tales of Destiny II.  Tales of Ete...

Soul Calibur Legends was a frustrating mess. 0

I'm not a Soul Calibur fan, I played the first one in the arcade and Soul Calibur II on the Gamecube.  Outside of that, I really don't care about the history of the characters or anything like that.  Basically, I'm not reviewing this as a Soul Calibur fanboy.  With that said.....Oh man... Soul Calibur Legends was bad.  It was really bad.  Maybe not a 3.5 that Gamespot handed it out, but it wasn't much better than that really.  What really annoyed me the most about this game was I had expected a ...

Super Paper Mario is fun, quirky and a total title for the Wii. 0

Super Paper Mario was a fantastic game and much better than I had expected.  Well, I expected it to be good, but not this good.  My fears was the platforming actually.  I was expecting it to be a clunky mess like in the other two games, where platforming takes the backseat.  However, Super Paper Mario takes a que from the early Mario games and runs with it.  I had a couple problems with the game, but it hardly stopped me from enjoying it.  I wish there was more NPCs in the game with bigger perso...

Overlord was a unique blend of Pikmin and Fable. 0

Overall, Overlord was a fun game.  I liked how they mixed elements of Pikmin with elements of Fable.  The puzzles were fun, I loved exploring.  The combat was fun.  The game was just a blast to play through, but there was alot of non-gameplay related things I hated about it.  I WISH the storyline was good, but it was down right awful.  There wasn't enough humor and the voice acting is some of the worst I've heard in a long time.  If you can look past those flaws, this is still a pretty damn fun ...

Tales of Phantasia is a bit archaic, but overall fun and challeng 0

Tales of Phantasia was a fun game for what it was.  It was fun going back and finally playing this game in it's entirety.  I've been a big Tales of fan since the Playstation days.  It was a big hard playing this though because it's an obvious step down from Tales of Destiny.  While I think the graphics and sound are amazing, everything else seems a bit dated.  The battle system was pretty original for the time, but I was use to the Destiny system, so Phantasia feels a bit slow and clunky.  This ...

Ocarina of Time has aged with perfect grace. 4

Ocarina of Time is without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time.  I wouldn't even know where to rank it.  It's probably not my favorite Zelda though, I would give that to Link to the Past without a hesitation.  I played through Ocarina of Time, from start to finish this week for the first time in 8 or 9 years.  I was amazed at how much I remembered, and that's a good thing.  Orcarina of Time is hardly a forgettable game.  This was the sole reason I bought an N64.  I eventually picked up ...

Dawn of the New World was a worthy follow up to a classic game. 0

Ok, let me get this out of the way.  I've been addicted to Action RPGs since the original Zelda was released and was a huge fan of the Tales of series since Tales of Destiny was released.  I played a ton, and I mean a TON of RPG's last gen.   Tales of Symphonia just happens to be my favorite RPG of last gen.  Sure, it's cliche, but the overall package was amazing.  It's hard to explain, but you can't relive that experience. That's why I wanted to love Tales of Symphonia, and at the same time I wa...

Chrono Cross is a disappointing sequel, but overall a great RPG. 0

I remember when Chrono Cross was released and wasn't blown away in the least.  Chrono Cross didn't live up to the hype by the media (Gamespot gave it a 10, EGM gave it a 10).  It didn't live up to Chrono Trigger's standards either.  It was ultimately a disappointing sequel to one of the greatest games ever made.  Chrono Trigger did so many things right that Chrono Cross just doesn't even toy with.  For one, they tossed out the idea of a 'on field battle' that Chrono Trigger did with ease.  In Ch...

Dragon Valor was completely bland and forgettable. 0

Dragon Valor was not a fun game.  Ok, I thought it was fun at first, but once you did one dungeon, you did them all.  Your tactics rarely changed with combat.  The platforming could be frustrating at times.  Strengthening up your character and then having most of that power stripped away is stupid.  The difficulty was kinda tough at times because you can't bulk up on healing items or magic potions, so you have to use your magic sparingly.  This kinda reminds me of a survival horror like Resident...

Megaman Legends was fun all the way, despite a few bumps. 0

Megaman Legends was overall a pretty enjoyable RPG.  The graphics were impressive, the load times were short.  The cutscenes looked amazing.  The dungeons were fun to explore.  The dialog was quirky, the towns folk were interesting.  This was a fun world to be in, to bad the game was only 10 hours long.   My only other two complaints is the ugly dungeons generic look of the dungeons and the terrible controls at times.  ----------Battle System----------Megaman Legends is an action rpg.  You don't...

Saiyuki: Journey West was a perfectly fine FF Tactics clone. 0

Saiyuki: Journey West wasn't a great game nor a bad game, but it was perfectly average at what it did.  The graphics aren't bad, the sound is good, the controls are tight.  The story needed more depth, and I wasn't a huge fan of the skill system, but I guess these are my only true complaints. Saiyuki is pretty fun overall.  If you enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics, then this one of the best FFT clones I've played.----------Battle System----------Saiyuki: Journey West is a turn-based Strategy RPG.  T...

Okami was fun but better than Zelda? ha! 0

Ok, I liked Okami alot.  I want to get that out of the way before I go into my rant.  Okami was FUN.  There is no denying that.  I loved the puzzles were creative, the dungeons were fun to figure out.  I thought some aspects about it was totally unique, while others were blatant clones of Zelda ideas. I love Zelda games, boy do it.  I love Zelda clones and Okami is one of them, but what get's on my nerves is when people say Okami is a Zelda game but better, well, I'm going to disagree with that....

Dragonball Z Sagas is a top from bottom crappy game. 0

I'm not a Dragonball fan at all. I don't think I ever sit through an entire episode in my life. I do like these character action games, so I attempted to play this, besides having no prior knowledge. I must say that Dragon Ball Z Sagas is a pretty bad game. One of the worst games I've played on the Gamecube actually. It's also pretty damn easy too. The game was actually more difficult in the beginning of the game than the later, maybe because I discovered how to beat every boss without trying. T...

Grandia 2 was about as average an RPG can get. 0

Ok, let me rant a little bit before I dive in my Dreamcast review. I originally played Grandia 2 on the PS2. I didn't know first hand of the differences until after I played it but I knew something was wrong. When you chatted with someone the dialog text ran in slow motion. It was so slow I avoided NPC chats. You also ran in slow motion in town scenes and cutscenes aswell. The Playstation 2 version was so slow and janky that I cut a couple hours off of my time when I played the Dreamcast version...

Shining Force Exa was more or less the same as Shining Force Neo. 0

I can't say Shining Force Exa was a better game than Neo because it didn't really improve much. Only the graphics were improved in my eyes. The battle system was nearly untouched (not that it was bad to begin with), the story felt a little worse. I really hated the gimmick of two characters only for the fact that they ruin your dungeon crawling pacing. The framerate drops was slightly fixed, never problematic but still noticeable. Besides all of that, Shining Force Exa is still a decent game. ...

Champions was an ugly mess full of game crashing bugs. 2

Ok, I hated this game. I really really did. Not only did it feel like a poor expansion pack of Champions of Norrath, but it was full of game crashing bugs (re: graphics). I have never in my life been more bored playing an Action RPG in my life either. This is seriously one of the worst and I've sat through Bard's Tale, D&D Heroes, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and much other pieces of crap. I would recommend to never touch this. Everything about it is unpolished. The game is short, the comba...

Final Fantasy 7 is still amazing after all of these years. 0

I have a weird history with Final Fantasy 7.  I played all previous Final Fantasys that came out before Final Fanasty 7, including Mystic Quest and Chrono Trigger.. heck basically all Square games at this point.  So when I first heard about Final Fantasy 7 and that it was coming out on the Playstation, I was pissed.  I didn't want a Playstation, there was no games on it I cared about and I already owned a Saturn.  I knew the next Nintendo was way off, but I was still peeved.  However, as time ti...

Enchanted Arms was a mess, but the sidequests kept me going. 0

Enchanted Arms was..eeh.. ok I guess. The graphics are really bad. The voice acting annoying. The story was crap. However, I did like dungeon crawling in the game. I loved finding all the Golems (I got most of them). There was plenty of fun sidequests. I loved building up my characters skills. While the battle system was a little slow, you can set your battles to Auto, so you can create really fast battles if you wanted. This is an AWESOME idea for a game with random encounters. Not only that, b...

Eternal Sonata was a linear mess with repetitive combat. 0

I had alot of fun with Eternal Sonata.. for the first two chapters. I was expecting a game that started off with a couple main characters, and then you followed through with them til the end. That did not happen. My fondest memories of this game will forever be with the first couple chapters, that is before the game turn into a total mess with me. That is when you had a solid group of likeable characters with a goal. At the end of the 2nd chapter you're met with your 6th playable character. You ...

Final Fantasy Tactics is still one of the best RPGs ever made. 0

I was a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, I had not missed a single one during this period (ok, there was only 1,2,3,Mystic Quest and 7 at this point), so when Final Fantasy Tactics came out, I was hyped beyond belief despite little info on the game.  Either way, I picked up Final Fantasy Tactics the day it came out.  It wasn't a jaw dropping experience at first like Final Fantasy 7 was, but Final Fantasy Tactics grew on me faster than any game ever.  There was a few disappointments, like th...

Marvel Ultimate Alliance was a mess from start to finish. 0

I had so many problems with this game.  First there was alot of bugs and glitches.  One instance I was playing as the Thing and Rhino trapped me in a wall, and I couldn't move.  Another instance I was playing as Ghost Rider and I some how was thrown off of a ledge by a glitch.  Another time I was playing as Blade but the Vision thought I was wolverine, and the Blade started talking as Wolverine.  The biggest glitch of all is when I reached Act 5 in the game, I saved it the night before, and went...

Blue Dragon was extremely easy, but enjoyable RPG. 0

Blue Dragon reminds me of a mix of Final Fantasy X-2, Dragon Quest 8 and Evolution, maybe with dash of Okage: Shadow King for good measure. There was a few things that really peeved me about Blue Dragon, sure the game was extremely easy, sure the blur effects annoyed the crap out of me, sure the story was perfectly average at best, and sure the graphics weren't exactly blowing my mind. Outside of that, I really loved building up my job classes, I loved exploring the world around me, I loved the ...

Virtua Quest is a pathetic action RPG set in a Sega Universe. 0

Virtua Quest is about the closest thing you'll find to Kingdom Hearts on the Gamecube, to bad this is a really really bad RPG. The fighting is really repetitive. The platforming is horrible, unreliable and completely frustrating. The story and characters are unlikeable and boring. Everything else inbetween is quite generic. The Virtua Fighters only play a small part of the game, and they're easy to defeat. The only remarkable thing about this game was the way you equipped your Upgrade Tools to b...

Dinotopia is a short, easy and stripped down RPG. 0

Ok, not only was this game short, it was easy, had a terrible story with some of the poorest written dialog I've read. The dungeons are pathetic, as were the bosses within this game. There's no collectibles within the game or even puzzles, heck Drake learns to "Double Jump" like in every platformer game ever invented since Mario but there's only two sections within the game that require it. While this game might look similar to Zelda from the outside, it's certainly nothing like it at all. ----...

Medabots Infinity is one of the worst RPGs ever made. 0

I'll just jump right into this one. Medabots Infinity just plain SUCKS. I can't even picture Medabot fans enjoying this. The graphics are bad, the controls are even worse. The camera angles work against you in all the boss battles. The dungeons are all the same and felt randomly generate. The game has an extremely high difficulty, and this is pretty bad for a kids game. How are kids suppose to play this game when a 25 year old veteran of crap NES games can't even beat this game? Leveling up in...

Dark Savior was a frustrating platformer and a weak RPG. 0

I remember when I first bought the Saturn. Dark Savior was promoted on the back of the box, or possible in one of the booklets that came with it. I was totally wowed by the graphics. Looking back today I still think they're very good, I would like to say that Dark Savior is like slapping Paper Mario in Vagrant Story's world. That sounds pretty damn weird, but it's true. Of course though, Dark Savior came out long before either of those games. Dark Savior is the spiritual successor to Landstalke...

Tales of Symphonia is the best last gen RPG I've played so far 0

Note: this was one of my first reviews and I agree it's pretty horrible, I wrote this a few years ago, so I'll leave it unedited for now.  I still love Tales of Symphonia, and I still can't think of a better last gen game than this.I had trouble getting into Tales of Symphonia at first. It was a little slow moving and it picked up the speed really quick. There’s a ton of depth to the game, a lot of sidequests, great memorable characters. The battle system, sound, graphics, world map are all exce...

Wild Arms: Alter Code F is easily the worst Wild Arms game so far 5

I beat the original Wild Arms game at the 28 hour mark, but this one took me 49 hours. Between each game, they have the same amount of towns and dungeons, but Alter Code F was a MUCH longer game because of the slowish battle system and drawn out storyline and dialog scenes. If Alter Code F was 20 hours shorter, I think I would be less harsh on it, but it quickly worn out it's welcome. Ok, this game was just WAY to long. Not only that but the graphics were horrible, there was spelling errors and...

Wild Arms 4 had a fun battle system, but short and linear. 0

Despite a few Wild Arm-isms, if someone was to tell me this was a Wild Arms game, then I wouldn't believe them. There is a ton of changes in this game from the previous titles, some for the worst, but other for the better. I like the platforming elements to the game, the new Hex battle system is really fun, they added voice overs, these are all huge improvements. On the downside, I hate the new dot-to-dot map (it's still better than the 3rd game), it makes the entire game extremely linear, and t...

Wild Arms 3 had some promise, but failed to entertain me. 0

The battle system was kinda boring, since most of the moves took forever to work and it was way to flashy. There was way to many unneeded cuts during battle, it just gave me a headache, and also could confuse me if there was multiple enemies of the same type on the field, since they ran around the battle field at random. I would seriously set my moves, then turn the channel to watch the news and flip back to set the move again, that’s how boring it was. The story wasn't that great either, it h...

Wild Arms 2 was a boring and safe RPG. 0

Wild Arms 2 was just a boring game overall. The story bored me, the battle system was simpler than the original (and THAT was a simple battle system to begin with). Nothing was improved over the originals flaws, and alot of it actually regressed. The puzzles are still kinda fun I guess. ----------Battle System---------- Wild Arms 2 is a turn-based RPG. The turns are laid out in rounds, for instance you choose all of your attacks first, and then watch it unfold. If your characters have higher sp...

Wild Arms is a tried but true RPG at heart. 0

The game has a unique setting to it, but a few things about that bugs me. While it's set in some world based off of the Wild West with guns a tootin’ and deserts, there's only one character that actually uses a gun. Actually that gun is more like a bazooka / laser gun, not really a pistol like shown on the box cover. Another thing, his primary weapon is actually a sword, and so is Jack's, and Cecilia uses a magic staff. There's also giant Golems, aliens, castles, planes, magic users, huge towers...

Xenosaga III was a weak swansong. 0

I liked how fast paced the battle system was for this game, but they sacrificed the combo attacks and other fun elements from the previous games to do that. I felt the graphics were dumbed down, and the cutscenes were shorter, which was also a unique thing about the other two games. There's barely any sidequests in this game. There was just alot of things that didn't fell right, I enjoyed it for the most part, but overall it felt rushed and totally gimped. ----------Battle System---------- Xeno...

Xenosaga II was only slightly better than the first game. 0

Overall, I think the story, graphics, sound and world map was all improved. I have mix feelings with the battle system, since I think it was improved in some areas, but entirely messed up in others. They added a bunch more sidequests in the game, and the dungeons require actual thought at some points, so I think the game as a whole was improved. Otherwise, it's the same ol' game you played before. Even with all of the improvements, it’s still not a great RPG franchise at all. The battle system i...

Xenosaga had a great story, but not enough gameplay. 0

Even though the battle system had plenty of depth to it, and the story was pretty enjoyable, I was still left pretty empty with Xenosaga. I spent over 40 hours with this game, and most of that was micro managing and cutscenes. I felt like I didn't accomplish anything. ----------Battle System---------- Xenosaga is a standard turn-based RPG. Overall the game was a huge improvement over the original but in the level designs. They're bigger and less linear, but still generic looking and boring. ----------Battle System---------- X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse is a 3rd person / top down view Action / Dungeon Crawling RPG. X-Men Legends had some problems, but it was still a fun game. 0

The story was ok, the battle system was pretty fun, although a bit to much button mashing. The only problems I had with the game was the weak dialog they gave Magma, the cheap level design, stupid AI, and dying from falling off of cliffs. Virtual Hydlide is a terrible RPG in every sense. 0

Out of all the Saturn RPGs, this is easily the worst one. Heck, I might even say this is worse than Quest 64, actually I know it is. This game is generic in every sense of the word. Not only was there no story, the controls were terrible and the graphics were nauseating. I'm not just saying "nauseating" to be cute, try spinning your character around or running between some trees, you'll want to puke. The only redeeming qualities of this game is the small load times, and the similarities to Zeld...
