Xbox List

I've come to realize that the original Xbox sort of picked up where the Dreamcast left off. With a strong online focus and a library with the best version of 3rd party games, as well as a smattering of weird games (some of which actually coming from Sega themselves) it was basically the Dreamcast's American cousin.

After much searching, I found a totally working Xbox in a thrift store, hiding in a 360 box with a copy of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban still in the tray. I can now live my Direct X Box dreams on my tiny CRT television.

List items

  • I actually love this game! Dealing with a few bleeps really isn't that big of a problem, especially when its one of the most gorgeous looking games on the system. The quality of the game takes a bit of a nosedive once the War part kicks in, but its still a pretty awesome story and cast of characters. Its also got a neat TF2 style multiplayer mode, so while the servers are down, you can still play MP with bots, and I think even LAN if you have enough systems and copies. It doesn't seem to have loading screens on 360?

  • Not backwards compatible! I should get a proper Xbox so that I can actually play this, because it seems really cool.

  • I haven't played much of this because I am a scared baby. 360 causes some really weird glitches during cutscenes that kind of make it more horrifying.

  • I guess I have this game. I don't really care for simulation focused racers.

  • Fantastic platformer, funny, really creative worlds, and a really neat selection of abilities. PC is the best version right now, but there's something that just feels right about this on Xbox? Plays really well on 360, though there's a glitch that causes Raz's outfit to turn blue.

  • This is the game that made me actually want an Xbox in the first place, I hadn't seen much of Oddworld beforehand, but this game seemed really awesome in 2001. It actually emulates pretty poorly on the 360, so I really recommend playing that PS3 HD remaster over this. I just like having this copy because I like collecting Oddworld stuff, and it has a really nice manual with the requisite OWI group photo!

  • I haven't played this one yet, but I got it with most of the others during a sale. The back of the box is very excited to tell me that music from Korn is in the game.

  • Its got some really floaty jumps and a poor sense of speed and momentum, but its got a nice funky flow.

  • The other Xbox game from Rare, and it too gets dumped on rather unfairly. Its got a great personality and a lot of fancy visuals for a 2003 game. The combat itself is a bit repetitive, but you can do elbow drops on skeletons and smash chairs over the heads of ninja jinjos. Its got a lot of charm and heart. Works on 360, but I think it keeps hardlocking my system at a point.

  • I've only played a little bit of this, but the controls on the plane feel great and I like the art direction and the free roaming mission structure seems like a good fit, I really want to get back around to this game and it seems like a real shame this game didn't do better. No 360 issues that I've seen.

  • This is a FPS with awful shooting controls, but you can do axe kicks, backflips, and vomit in first person. Then you get superpowers and ... I actually haven't played it much past that ... it seems really cool though.

  • Itagaki's exploration of sadistic boss AI and boob physics is still pretty fun, and kind of an amazing looking game for 2001. It also has maybe one of the worst/blandest covers I've ever seen on a game. Ah yes, Jann Lee, the most well known Dead or Aliver.

    AEROSMITH

  • Got this before I realized its not BC! Its a Smilebit game though, which generally means a lot of style and unique controls.

  • Well shit, apparently this game doesn't like the original 360 model. Works just fine on the newer revisions.

  • I didn't even know this game existed until pretty recently. Its sunny and colorful and pretty fun to play. You have multiple companions who will fuck you up if you're bad at the game.

  • It was $2
