HD Compression for YouTube

Need to compress and maybe upload your videos in HD for YouTube but don't know what preferences to select?  Read here, or read below (pretty much copy pasta for convenience):

  • Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4
  • Resolution: 1280x720
  • Audio: 44.1KHz Stereo MP3 or AAC
  • Frame Rate: (Same as Original Video Source)
Also, keep in mind of YouTube's restrictions:

  • 10 minutes max. OR 1GB file size (whichever comes first)
  • YouTube also supports: AVI, MOV and WMV files.

Happy Birthday Jeff!

If what wiki proclaims is correct, today (August 1st 2009) is THE Jeff Gerstmann's birthday.

As I am well aware that it is not midnight yet in the US, it's 12:01am in the UK.

Happy Birthday Jeff!

July 2009 Review

Having planned a to-do list before the Summer holidays even started, I am very disappointed in myself to find out that I haven't completed at least 10% of what I initally wanted to do.  Here's what I done in July:

  • Wanted to complete 5 games: Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Assassin's Creed and Dead Rising.  Only managed to complete Eternal Sonata.  Working on Lost Odyssey at the minute, disc 3.
  • Was going to play through Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and try to get Stealth and the Bandana (which can both be obtained), didn't bother to put the disc into the console.
  • Been driving a lot since the start of the month.  Booking my practical next month.
  • Watched some Anime.
  • Purchased an official Sony PlayStation 3 Bluetooth headset.
  • Formatted my hard drive because of a Monitor? problem.
That's about it.  Pathetic.  I hope to do better in August.

Package Inbound

Just received my package containing my Official Sony PlayStation 3 Bluetooth Headset.
Surprisingly Long. (that's what she said)
Surprisingly Long. (that's what she said)
I ordered it from Play.com, from the dude called "gowingstore".  It took 2 weeks to be delivered, due to "transport issues".  The thing that pissed me off is that I didn't receive the item in it's original retail packaging, it was all in bubble-wrap.  WTF?!  It was described as "New" from the seller. I was confused about how to sync the bluetooth to the PlayStation 3.  If you have purchased the headset and didn't receive a manual, here's what to do.

I'll rate the person when I have tested the headset later in Killzone 2.

Bungie Day '09!

It's here!  Ready your weapons, gather your team for the World vs. Bungie has begun!  However, as exciting day as Bungie Day is, it shares the same day as Michael Jackson's funeral (which is broadcasting LIVE on Sky News : 5.30pm).  Fight the fight against Bungie then head over to Sky News (or your favourite LIVE streaming channel) and pay your respects to Michal Jackson.

Here's what you need:

  • Xbox 360
  • Halo 3
  • Xbox LIVE Gold
  • Heroic (FREE) and Mythic (800 points) Map Pack
  • 3 Friends (with all the above stuff)
The reason why you need 3 friends is because the playlist "Bungie vs. The World" is a team-based playlist with special conditions.

Quote from Bungie.net:

"If you go in by yourself and find three people that you really think will be able to challenge our nigh-invincible team of pro-level BxR masters, you'll have to send them an invite and re-enter the Playlist as a team before you can begin seeking your premature demise at the hands of our elite hunter-killer teams."

The playlist is located in the "Social" section, limited to 4 players (4v4).

Remember to read the Rules and have fun!

Thoughts on Windows 7 RC1

I tested the Windows 7 BETA way~ back in February 2009, and am now using Windows 7 RC1 (for the period it is active).  Here are my thoughts on it:

  • I have disabled Taskbar Thumbnails yet it still shows up!  Microsoft needs an option to disable this completely (I've edited the Group Policy settings and the Registry).  I disabled it before a Windows 7 update.  Now it has fucked this feature up!

  • Clicking on a pinned Taskbar icon should open a new window!  Such as: I have an already opened Firefox window.  To open another one, I need to open the current Firefox window and press CTRL+N.  Why not just open another one by clicking on the icon?  If you wanted to select an already opened Firefox window, hover over the Firefox icon and select a currently opened window via the Taskbar Thumbnail or List view.

  • No "MSN Live" download link on the All Programs menu.  This was included in Vista but I guess was removed.

  • No "Safely Remove" option when right-clicking on a device at the My Computer window.  This was also featured in Windows Vista.

  • When trying to access to an already mapped Network drive that you have already entered the credentials (in this case, my file server), you have to keep entering your username and password after restarting (even having checked the checkbox to remember my credentials).  Okay, this seems to happen in the odd occassions - but it shouldn't need to.

  • Windows 7 auto-enables multiple monitors.  On XP or Vista, with more than 1 monitor connected, you can choose to enable them or disable them.  This is not the case with Windows 7 RC1.  Any monitors currently connected, will be enabled.  Sucks.

  • Trying to copy files from my desktop to the server and it seems to freeze and says that the network drive is not accessible.  WTF?!  I have all the permissions to access, copy, delete and create content on the server.  Windows 7 just keeps getting funny.
I hope the above are fixed in the final version of Windows 7.  Sorry that this post was mainly a rant.
