This is the only the second episode I have ever voluntarily turned off (The first being that E3 episode years ago where Leigh Alexander was drunk and obnoxious). I don't want to belabor the point, but Rorie was so rude and off topic the entire episode. It is like he has an inability to read the flow of a conversation and just needs to blurt out whatever is in his head at the moment. It is not cool to others (especially guests) and definitely not fun to listen to at all.
@fishinwithguns: I think anyone would agree that the stated intent of this particular series is to "successively complete their mission" and engage in shared story telling. Changing/deleting character features and favoring a single character at the expense of others in a squad game is not playing it sincerely. An antonym of Ironic is sincere.
I would be very curious if there is an age difference between people who are saying that Dan's behavior is ruining their enjoyment/the spirit of the feature and those who are saying "what is the big deal? it is just lolz".
I would not say that it makes me angry, but it makes me not really want to watch it anymore. Part of it is that you have 3 people on one page for this feature and then one on another. I would just rather watch something else that seems more sincere and devoid of this "fuck 'it, it's just a video game bit, who cares" irony.
While this looked good from previews, I was hesitant because of Austin Walker and Jeff Bakalar's comments after playing the demo. But now after Jeff's review and the positive talk on today's Waypoint podcast, I am back aboard the hype train..Choo choo
Why would he have to police the party? The only reason I can see to do that is if he thought it would be bad if the kids could play any game there.
Which is what makes it sound like he thinks violent video games are bad for kids.
You are laboring under a somewhat simple interpretation of the concept of "what is bad for children" and what is "age appropriate" (not to mention making some big assumptions). I think there are many things that are not harmful to children when they are age appropriate. It is not up to me to make that decision from behind an internet monitor, it is up to each parent to deem when something is age appropriate based on their knowledge of the context and their child. Who am I to criticize what a parent's decision is on an issue like this and try to project their motivation?
I have to say that I was not a huge fan of Dan when he first joined GB, but I have definitely grown to really enjoy his contributions to the site. The Beastcast seems to fit him a little better, I think he will have a little more room and the interactions between Alex and Vinny will be great. So huzzah to the first of many great upcoming episodes.
@ajroo: By this, I assume you mean that you have attained an advanced degree in climate science and you have specific critiques for peer-reviewed journal articles? No, neither? Just reductionist dismissal of a complex field of research from some internet research. Even in the scientific fields where there is large disagreement it is not done in overarching dismissals, using conspiracy talk, and sarcastic quotation marks.
