A couple of games will be announced for the first time at Spike TV's Video Game Awards show. That's a given. But what game are we almost certain we'll see unveiled at the show? A follow-up to Radical Entertainment's open-world title Prototype seems like a really safe bet.

Viral website Murder Your Maker has been connected with the VGAs for some time, with many viewers of it theorizing that the bald man on the page is Alex Mercer, the bald, jacket-wearing protagonist of the original Prototype. Now, the site has a video teaser that features footage from Prototype, all but confirming that a Murder Your Maker is a Prototype 2 hype site and that follow-up will be announced at the VGAs.

Murder Your Maker has also been connected with a set of three teaser images an unknown developer has been splicing into commercials for the 2010 VGAs. The first two of these images are vague and could be viewed as a tease for any number of zombie games like Resident Evil or Left 4 Dead. However, the most recent third image--which prominently features a picture of a child and a soldier with the accompanying text "don't ever leave the green zone"--is an obvious Prototype reference. If you remember, most soldier-controller areas in the original Prototype were considered "safe zones" in a city rapidly becoming infected with a virus.

Alas, we can't be 100 percent sure Prototype 2 will be announced at the rewards show. Activision hasn't said anything yet and neither has Radical Entertainment, apparently. Like you, we'll have to wait until the VGAs air on December 11 to know for sure. But, really, c'mon

I thought Prototype was fun, even went out of my way to get all the trophies. Just hope they fix the complaints of the first game.

Prototype was like the first Assassins Creed. Lots of potential and some fun moments, but poor execution.

The first one was fun, but I think this one will be a massive improvement.

I'm with LlamaLlama - I'm not too excited. Maybe they'll do something radically different, but chances are it's just a sequel.

Fuck all the haters. Prototype had plenty of faults, no denying that, but at its core that game was hell of fun. The powers and the sense of being a badass were great. I am actually pretty excited about this.

I found it not be fun at all when I play it at a friend's house. There's also my inability to care for the character as he whines about his plight as he emotionless cuts down innocent people so he can heal. Not the best way to try and get sympathy for the protagonist.

Wow, a lot of Prototype hate. Sure it had a lot of faults but for me the power trip it gave was well worth it. Never felt as powerful in a video game. Why it needs a sequel? Can't anyone remember Assassins's Creed? Mediocre game made a fucking awesome sequel. Let's just hope Prototype can do the same.

First off, an article speculating on the probability of an announcement? Nice, but why bother commenting on such a thing?

Because it's Prototype, and I am a self-proclaimed Prototype Apologist. Prototype had its problems (boss battles, I'm look at you), but it was also a power trip with excellent controls. Granted, I played it on a PC with a USB gamepad, so console players' experience probably varied. Even with that in mind, I think there's a large enough audience waiting to stealth-eat entire bases, elbow drop tanks, and jump from copter to copter all over again.

I was not expecting this to get another game. It was mindless fun for a few hours, but I will not be paying $60 for this game like I did for the first one. I was pissed when I beat the first one in one sitting.

Unless they revitalize this franchise in a big way (something like AC2) I dont see how a Prototype sequel would work.  Prototype was "ok", nothing to get overly excited about.

Prototype was 2 of the most boring hours of my life.

Why does this badly made game need a sequel?

And, hello? you can only have one Prototype, a second one means the item/thing is no longer a prototype.
At least that was always my thinking.

I can't get over how terrible the first game looked. It would have been cool transforming into other people if the characters models weren't repetitive and blocky-looking to begin with.  Between NYC looking featureless and barren, the cookie cutter superhero side missions all over the map, and the choppy combat that while varied, felt like a step backwards from Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, I really don't get how so many people got that "player empowerment" feeling from being a supposed badass. The game was just too damn disappointing.

That being said, I was really pumped for the first Prototype, so if they significantly redesign the franchise and it works I'm in.

This is really exciting to me. Prototype is terribly underrated. It was so much more fun to play than Infamous, yet it got upstaged almost immediately. Also, it is a worthwhile (but somewhat inferior) sequel to the best licensed superhero game ever made: Hulk Ultimate Destruction.

Yep, if this is P2, I'm officially hyped.

If the first game was called "Prototype", they should have called the second game: "Final Product". Missed opportunity.
