Overview
Pumpkins are a round, large squash with a thick orange-skinned rind, dry flesh, and many seeds, cooked and eaten as a vegetable or in sweet dishes. One famous old tradition is to cut out the innards of a pumpkin, carve a face in the front and place a candle inside, creating what is known as a Jack-o'-Lantern. Pumpkins and especially Jack-o'-Lanterns have a strong connection with the holiday of Halloween and when used in video games are often used light heartedly as decoration or minor destructible objects in "spooky" areas or sections of the game associated with Halloween. Outside of video games themselves some people have been known to carve video game-related images into the front of Jack-o'-Lanterns in place of faces.
