     Stadium Facts

When the Stadium opened in 2002, it was originally called Seahawks Stadium. Qwest Field was so named after an agreement in 2004 was reached with communications corporation Qwest Communications International Inc.  and the Seattle Seahawks NFL club.  The stadium seats 67,000 and the field meets requirements for hosting numerous types of sports including NCAA, FIFA Soccer, and NFL. The lower deck holds more than 32,000 and is the only section open for Major League Soccer games.  It opened officially in August 2002.
The stadium roof covers more than 70 percent of the seats.
The field used for both MLS and NFL games is Field Turf. Real grass was brought in for international soccer matches, such as when the Seattle Sounders played Chelsea and Barcelona in 2009.
The loudest crowd noise ever recorded was in Qwest Field. The NFC championship game of 2005, when the Seahawks played the Panthers at home, created a crowd noise of 137 decibels.
