Has anyone tried this on PC after it's been patched. I remember it being kinda broken when it first came out. Is it worth trying for only 10 bucks?
Rage
Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Oct 04, 2011
id Software's Rage combines first-person shooting, vehicular action, and "open but directed" exploration to tell the story of Earth's wretched civilization after a cataclysmic meteor strike. Militaristic authority figures, freedom-fighting rebels, criminal raiders, and twisted mutants battle each other for control of the barren wasteland Earth has become.
9.99 on Steam. Is it worth it?
My PC still doesn't play it right on an AMD card to the point I get no more than 15 fps when I play it on the lowest possible resolution, and I don't have any problem with any other games running at max resolution. Steam says I played for 8 hours, but 4 of those hours were trying to get it to work right. To me it was the most disappointing PC game of 2011.
I got it for 9.99 on amazon a while ago however (with my AMD card) first i had an instant freeze before the menu, fixed that with the patch. Then my current issue is every single texture first wouldnt appear, but now they all appear as sky blue except for the crosshairs and some shadows. Also after this it crashes to desktop after a minute. After attempting to fix it 12 times and watching that intro vid that many times i gave up. However I fully expect it to work near on fine with an nvidia card
Well, I can't speak for technical issues, I played it on 360, but from a more artistic - err - experiential(?) standpoint, I really enjoyed it. Granted I borrowed a copy and played through it in a weekend without having to spend any money on it, so I didn't really have the highest standards going in. Still, there are some things present, even in their worst games, that make you realize what ID is so fucking great.
Can't speak to how it is on the PC, but I picked it up for the same price recently on Amazon on 360. Definitely worth it if you're at all curious. The shooting and the animation as well as the graphics in general are superb. Not quite as keen on the story or setting so far.
@Funzzo: Yes. It is a solid game well-worth the $10. I wouldn't say it's remarkable, or that the story/gameplay will blow you away, but if you enjoy shooters and post-apocalyptic settings, it's a great buy.
If you really like shooters, in the shooting dudes in the face for 10 hours sense then this game is definitely for you.
I just finished it on the 360, and sure, it's a good game - and certainly worth 10 bucks.
Don't make the same mistake as me though, use all your different weapons - unlike me who played almost the entire game while only using the pistol, assault rifle and combat shotgun (while having full ammo for all the other weapons and saving them for a hard fight (that never happened D:)).
Oh, and just start the game on Nightmare - otherwise the game will be boringly easy...
