Fun to Play, Until It's Suddenly Over 0

I'm one of those people that can turn on a game if the ending is terrible. Same for movies. If it's good for the first 80% and then just falls apart, I'm going to look back and hate the whole experience.I don't hate Rage, partly because the story was never engaging to begin with. But it looks great, and I for one really had a lot of fun with the shooting and the simple crafting system. Shooting shit in Rage is a lot of fun.And then it just sort of ends. Poof. It's over in a flash.Vague Spoilers:...

An Oldschool Experience Hidden Under A Pretty Graphical Veneer 1

It's easy to have misconceptions about what RAGE really is. Word on the internet has pegged the game as a sort of bastard child in an illicit three-way between Borderlands, Fallout, and Doom, but to go into this game expecting anything resembling a role playing experience is to prime yourself for disappointment. This is an id game after all, and it's easy to see the DNA of their older works shining through the pretty new graphics. This is a post-apocalyptic world, colloquially referred to as "Th...

So much right, much more wrong 2

(This is my first review. I'll try and keep it coherent and fluid.)I have had a watchful eye upon this game for years. I remember going to the mailbox and pulling out the monthly edition of Game Informer, reading the article and thinking, "God damn this game looks and sounds fucking boss!" Slowly counting down the days and trudging through a few set backs, the day had arrived when Rage was here. I woke up, did all my shit for the day and traveled down to my local game store. I cheerfully went in...

    RAGE? More Like: MEH. 1

For various reasons, I ended up getting to play this game for free and so I really should have a better viewpoint on it from that alone, but I can't get past how utterly dull and pointless this game really ended up being.I immediately started having misgivings when the fucking thing was 3-discs and a 22+ gig install on my XBOX hard drive. The last game for me that was this way was L.A. Noire and I ended up hating that game. So RAGE is already on my shit list and I haven't even pressed start. Rea...

Are you angry? Time to go play some Rage. 1

Rage is a first person shooter. It is NOT an rpg, if you are looking for an rpg stop reading now because this is not what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a great looking first person shooter with fantastic shooting and pretty impressive A.I, Rage is all the rage (I apologize in advance).       Rage takes place in some future year 100 years later after some other future year, that is kind of as specific as it gets. In fact, Rage kinda has little to no story at all.  All ...

Something Wicked this way comes 1

First off 90% of the graphical issues are due to drivers. They will be fixed** so don't worry about that. I'm playing on a laptop which I hook up to my TV via HDMI. I run the game at 1080p with vsync on and 16x anti aliasing. It runs so smooth and overall looks really good. Towns and zones look a lot better than the wasteland overworld. Character models are incredible and so is the animation. They have some of the best skin textures I have ever seen in a game and their clothing is impressive as ...

Rage looks good but Borderlands is better 1

Don't get me wrong, Rage is a pretty game. It looks amazing with it's crystal clear graphics but honestly, with the lack of ANY customization in the game it's kind of dull. It's extremely similar to Borderlands but out of the two, Borderlands is definitely the better game. Rage has a cool story line but it's nothing you haven't seen before. You can't customize your character, weapons, you don't have any special abilities, and you don't get skill points. This in turn makes this game a bit bland. H...

Rage: A Great Casual Game 0

I never would have thought, in a million years, that I'd be saying this about a John Carmack game. I'd go so far as to say that if he was to read my "review" of his game, he'd probably commit sepuku. This game is absolutely fabulous for pick-up and play purposes consistent with an older; more family-oriented demographic (like being a dad.) The storyline covers some well worn ground, but you can excuse it because the character animation and all of the art direction in general is simply fabulous.Ga...

Leave this one out in the wastes 0

For a game as well-respected and influential as id Software, they're not exactly as prolific as they used to be. Known for frequent entries in the Wolfenstein, Quake and Doom series, the company seems more well-known for their graphical prowess than their multitude of games and with Doom 3 being their last big game, many were wondering what exactly were they up to. Enter "RAGE": a new first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic setting and featuring their brand new engine: id Tech 5. The god...

If you think this is going to be Fallout 3 with cars, you are mistaken. 0

Wow. Who would have thought a game like this, with cars, guns, new graphics engine, and made by id would be boring.I feel as I am alone in this view however, as I have never been a fan of driving games, although I love GTA. Going from town to town to complete missions feels like World Of Warcraft on a new engine and first person. Minus the XP of course. It's just boring. The combat fails also, with pistols taking many bullets to take down an enemy and even with 2/3 headshots an enemy can still ge...

id Software is Dead. Long Live id Software. 0

Unfortunately the best thing Rage has done is prove that the legendary id Software has certainly changed, although that seems to be for the worst if judged by Rage alone. This is a disappointing first for id, a developer who has for the last two decades seemingly released only ground breaking accomplishments for its portfolio. Most of id Software's major accomplishments so far have been on the foundation of John Carmack's extraordinary technology and game engine development efforts, cementing the...

Rage's pretty, open world and car combat mask what is just a long corridor crawl 0

Rage is the first game from id Software since Doom 3 was released in 2004. It’d be hard not to expect a lot out of the house that built the first-person shooter as we now know it, but does the legendary developer still got it? Doom 3 may have gotten favorable reviews, but consumer reception was more tepid. It’s been almost a decade since that release, and this one comes on their latest engine. Rage is a good showcase of the power of idtech5, but it leaves a lot to be desired despite ...

    Rage 0

At the outset, “Rage” was a game I didn't want to like. I am an unashamed PC elitist who will always prefer the desktop environment. Unfortunately due to growing software piracy, PC gamers have lost clout within the industry. Former PC developers have been switching their lead platform to consoles for years now, giving PC gamers a thrown-together port a month or two after the console release if anything at all.“Rage” was created by what is probably the most important development team in PC gami...

    Rage Review 0

Ever the innovator, id Software has crafted together a lavishing looking shooter that is both fun and best of all, smooth in performance to play. I loved Battlefield 3 and the wonderful graphics the game came equipped with, but I was never really hooked on how the game’s combat performed. It felt stiff, clunky, seemingly weighed down by the in-numerous texture files my Xbox had to forcefully plow through.Rage repeats in graphical fidelity, but offers a smooth and visceral combat experience. Buil...

    Rage: Reviewing the Wasteland 0

Rage has been a long time coming from id Software, a company known for releasing technically impressive first person shooter games. Built on a brand new engine, set in a post-apocalyptic world, and coming out shortly before several well-known, established shooter franchises, how does it stack up?The story is pretty standard…bad things happened on Earth, and you just woke up in in the aftermath. An asteroid struck many years before, and you were in cryo-sleep. No worries...John Goodman comes to y...

    Fun as an apocalypse 0

I finished Rage by id Software over the weekend and it was a pretty enjoyable experience overall. Going into the game without knowing much about it besides knowing that it is a shooter of some sort is probably the best way to get into it. Having known the general idea of the story and having a few minor preconceived notions in my head of what I hoped the game would be definitely let me enjoy the game more. I say this not to make people hesitant to play it, but because I think it is important to ...

Why Am I Doing Any of This?!?! 0

Straight out, Rage is gorgeous. One of the best looking games on the Xbox hands down and to be honest I think this game is largely a tech demo for the Rage engine more than anything else. The sky backdrop has to be one of the best I have ever seen. The actual gameplay itself is rather boring and pedantic.Rage can get a lot of comparisons to Borderlands in its initial structure. That is fair to an extent and the game also suffers some of the same problems Borderlands does. Eventually all of the s...

Lame Never Looked So Good 0

Rage is as disappointing as it is good looking. idtech5 is undoubtedly an amazing piece of technology, as is every id built engine since Doom and quite frankly it is a shame that no one outside of Bethesda is going to be able to use idtech5.In terms of how things look as you play Rage on PC it is clear that id has succeeded in creating a beautiful looking game. Notwithstanding the technical faults once patched and drivers updated, my copy of Rage worked very well on my machine with the exception...

    Single Player Review 0

The best way I can describe Rage is Borderlands with better A.I. and prettier environments, but without the loot driven RPG experience that made Borderlands fun and addictive. You see, while Borderlands allowed you to level up, get new abilities, and experiment and find new weapons, Rage takes a more traditional FPS approach with a small amount of basic weapons and a light crafting system. In short, most of the time I was playing Rage, I wished I was playing Borderlands instead.Rage is by no mea...

I don't know about the rest of you, but when I heard that ID and Bethesda were working together on this I was pretty excited, and the fact that the special edition was called the "Anarchy Edition" was pretty cool considering the "Post-Apocalyptic" land style. Anyway I purchased this game hoping for a rather large game. The Xbox 360 version comes with 3 discs, but unfortunately only 2 of the 3 were for single player while the third was only for multiplayer.Amazing graphicsWhen the game began I wa...

Rage is a first-person shooter developed by id Software. With over 4 years in the making id is back with a stunning shooter that makes for a very strong first impression. You play as a sole survivor of the 2029 Apophis asteroid impact who has just awoken from an Ark (a world-wide movement which took scientists and other significant people, and froze them underground in cryo-pods so they could rebuild Earth). You are among a small number of survivors who are forced to begin a new civilization. Rage 0

Rage is a semi-open world, role-playing, first person shooter in the same vein as Fallout and Borderlands. The basic plot takes place in the year 2135. An asteroid 99942 Apophis has struck the Earth and the survival of humanity rests in the hands of the would-be survivors of Project Eden's Ark. Players assume control of a nameless, silent protagonist who is only referred to as the Ark Survivor. The Ark Survivor emerges from 106 years of stasis in the Ark only to find that the other ''survivors" ...

Rage (Single Player)RAGE is ID Software's latest shooter. It uses the ID Tech 5 engine to render Mega Textures to look fantastic (not without it's problems though) and maintains a 60 fps rate through the game meaning it runs smooth as a baby's bottom.StorySet in a post apocalyptic world where you are an Ark survivor (basically you were buried underground after an asteroid strike). You wake to a world overrun by mutants, destroyed cities and Mad Max style settlers and gangs. You meet up with John ...

It took me a bit of time to finally get this game in my XBOX 360, but when I finally got it in I was excited. This was going to be an adventure that would bring me back to the old school id games, in the new generation. You will be putting on the personal of an Ark specialist, a person who was put into a hibernation chamber for the coming apocalypse and who is just now waking up to a whole new world. You'll find a world full of bandits and an organization with an agenda, the Authority.Graphicall...

    A Surprise 0

Rage is the newest game from ID, a company that seems better known for their tech than for their gameplay. This is their second game after the less than impressive Doom 3 --- and, well, initially it generated little satisfaction. When I first rented the game and played it, I didn't like it. I didn't see the appeal. At the time, it was OK with baffling game mechanics (no usable map? When you are driving so frequently and over such a long distance of space, it makes little sense) and an admittedly...

An Acceptable Addition to a Crowded Genre 0

If you have had any lengthy experience with 90s FPS games, you’re undoubtedly familiar with id Software and their illustrious shooters such as Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake. In recent years though, the company has been a far less prominent part of the world of first-person shooters. Rage, however, presents one of the most anticipated releases from id since their golden days. Put simply Rage is a game that takes the fairly common formula of the post-apocalyptic FPS with RPG elements, and tries to ...

    Very under appreciated game 0

Despite the fact that RAGE isn't throwing a +100 points notification in your face every time you shoot an enemy there is still a lot of game here. The combat missions in the game are for the most part simplistic linear shootouts that are maybe at times a little too reminiscent of Doom 3, but they aren't the only thing RAGE has to offer. The towns in the game offer a variety of mini games, races, and side missions...which are in my opinion greater than the sum of their parts. On top of the side mi...

Rage: Great Gameplay but Lack of Substance 0

After years of waiting, I finally got my hands on Rage. I have to say that Rage is a great game, very fluid and precise. What it lacks in the story and the open world it makes up for in it's gameplay. The graphics are beautiful and streamlined. The audio and ambiance are fantastic as well.Gameplay:Rage's gameplay is spot on. The controls are wonderful and extremely precise, one of the best FPS's I have played to date. The selection of weapons is nice, and each of the weapons is designed well and...

Rage, the title means nothing. 0

First and foremost, Rage is a beautiful game. It does not go for detailed real-world graphics but it is at the very least good eye-candy. And that is no surprise coming from ID entertainment the producers and developers of the unreal engine and having John Cormack at least dipping his toe in this game. Rage takes on the very classic approach, in that it focuses on the gameplay, the art, the sounds and the graphical prowess than it does with the story.Focusing on some of the positives, the gunpla...

    Rage Review 0

One of the oddest things about Rage's general reception is the general lack of perspective people have had. No, Rage isn't like Fallout. No, Rage isn't like Borderlands. Outside of its atmosphere, there's no reason to think that this would ever be the case. Rage is an Id game. And it's a good one.Rage tells the story of a guy waking up inside of a vault (okay, not doing any favors here) who's immediately saved and put to work by a variety of NPCs, all of whom have one motive: to survive.
