Maybe the Best Platformer I've Ever Played

Lucky for me, me 7 year old son has fallen in love with platformer games (he's a big fan of all things Mario). While I've been playing and enjoying platformers all my life, I honestly never played a Rayman game for some reason. My son got Rayman: Legends for Christmas and we've spent the last 5 days powering through the game - we're in love with it. The fact that both of us can play a local co-op game seamlessly despite the skill level difference and have this much fun is very special to me. I love Super Mario World with all my heart, but it is a single player game that my son had to watch me play once the levels got too hard. In Rayman: Legends, we have over 500 of the 700 possible Teensies (Rayman's version of Stars) and my son has felt every much a part of our success as I have. That is a big deal to me and I know it is to him.

While it is the co-op experience that stands out to me, the game itself over-delivers in a way that only a few games ever do (the aforementioned Super Mario World comes to mind). There is so much content in this game that it is literally ridiculous and it is all amazing. Not only do you get all the Rayman: Legends content, which is a ton in its own right, but you unlock all the levels from Rayman: Origins (the prior game in the series) to boot. Like I said, the level at which this game delivers is amazing. The controls are perfect, the game is utterly gorgeous, the music (especially the music-themed levels) are unforgettable to the point where my 3 year old son is singing along while he watches. I literally wouldn't change a thing about this game - it's that good.

I could go on about this game forever, but I'll simply say this: If you like platformers at all, you simply have to own this game. Having played this game, I firmly believe that Mario and Rayman are co-kings of the throne in the land of platformers. Given that I've played every Mario game ever made compared to one Rayman game that I got 5 days ago, that should tell you how spectacular this game really is. I can't tell the team who made this game thank you enough for not only giving me a an amazing game that I loved, but creating something that my son and I could enjoy together while passing the joy of gaming on to the next generation.

      Superb, a Hallmark in 2D Platforming. 0

2011’s Rayman Origins was a game that resonated with many, many gamers. The tight 2D platforming coupled with a cutesy aesthetic and musical charm was a neat throwback to the 90’s, the good old days, the days when Mario and Sonic ruled the roost. Rayman Legends builds upon the foundations Origins created, and then some. However, Legends had a bit of a rocky start. It was initially intended to be a Wii U exclusive due to release in the early days of the Wii U, it was seen as the potential killer ...
