    Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is a game that is either hit or miss for most people, a lot of people claim the game's control scheme is "out-dated" or "too restricting", these are some valid points, but I think that the slower paced gameplay adds to the suspense and horror of the game. But, at the same time I believe that a control scheme shouldn't be one of the key elements of the game and there can be added suspense in different ways, while making the controls more fun and forgiving to use. I think Capcom decided to use the "old-school" controls to set it apart from games like Gears of War, so it doesn’t feel like just another 3rd person shooter clone of Gear of War.

    Story

As far as story goes, Resident Evil 5 is overall great, but the ending could have been put together a little better in my opinion. The story goes back to the main storyline from the original Resident Evil games, Starring Chris Redfield, but it is in no way a proper sequel to Resident Evil 4. Even thou Leon S. Kennedy the main protagonist from Resident Evil 4 is referenced when they talk about "The Kennedy Report". The story does close the book on a lot of things, which would make Resident Evil 6 a complete reboot of the story. As far as visuals, it is definitely one of the best looking games that is going to come out this year. The sound is also very good, the roar of the chainsaw and gunfire both sound especially good.

    Gameplay and Mechanics

There are 4 difficulty settings on the campaign, easy, normal, veteran and professional. If you get into the game you are going to want to play it on normal or easy on your first play through, due to the fact that you start the game with without any upgrades on your weapons and they aren't powerful right out of the gate. In order to upgrade your weapons, you need money, which is either earned from finishing a level or picked up off the ground, although the money you pick up off the ground isn't that significant. As you upgrade your weapons they become more and more over-powered as well as able to hold insane amounts of ammo. There is also a bonus of extra guns when you fully upgrade certain weapons and these guns feel even more over-powered, let's just say there is a triple-barrel shotgun. All guns also carry over into the next game you play. This does make going thru the game on a higher difficulty a lot easier because you can mow down a lot more zombies at once.

    Online
The game has online co-op campaign support across Xbox Live or PSN, this feels great and there really is no lag whatsoever. There is also a versus pack available for $5, but it seems like it is already on the disc due to it's small download size, so it does feel a bit like a scam. Also the game's control scheme doesn't really feel right for online versus, because of the slow paced action and the fact that you have to stop to shoot.

    In Conclusion

Resident Evil 5 is definitely a game you will want to check out if you enjoy horror games and you will want to play thorough it multiple times just to see all the cool weapons, but if you weren't a fan of Resident Evil 4 chances are you won't like this one.

      Attempting the impossible 0

I will be one of the first to admit that I think Resident Evil 4 is one of the best, most innovative video games ever made, plain and simple. Yet whenever such a game comes out, the inevitable question always surfaces: How can a sequel possibly live up to the standards set before it? The short answer is that it can't- but it also doesn't need to. Resident Evil 5 is more or less content to bring us more of the fantastic gunplay that defined Resident Evil 4, and as a result is another thrilling ac...

Even with its obvious shortcomings, RE5 is easy to recommend. 0

In the earliest portion of 2005, Capcom dropped a bomb with the release of Resident Evil 4, breathing new life into a franchise mired in tradition and antiquated mechanics.   While impressing critics, fans and naysayers alike, the game also did something much more important by redefining the third-person shooter. To even begin to hope that Resident Evil 5 – the latest installment in the long-running blockbuster franchise – could even begin to live up to the hype surrounding its release is simpl...
