A must have for PS3 Owners

Resistance 2 is the most anticipated games for the Playstation 3 this year. With all the hype and mystery surrounding Resistance 2 does it live up? Short answer is yes, long answer is still yes but not perfect.

A lot of criticism has gone to the story. The story is quite good and really answers some questions involving the first one. Unfortunately the problem is that it was not told as well as the first one was told. For example the there are many cut scenes missing where there should be some. In one level you are on one of their ships and you have to get out. As soon as you get to the escape ship the game cuts to the ship already leaving. It would be nice to have it to transition from that scene to the next. I wish I could say that that did not happen very often but it does. Thinking about it the game could have really used a narrator like in the first one that would have helped bring everything together.

The Co-op is great even with just a few levels the game changes the level up. So one level could have 10 different variations to it. At first glance the 3 classes maybe a bit weak. But paying through that is really all you need; A heavy gunner, a scout with ammo, and a medic to heal everyone. There is no difficulty setting but each level has is challenges and depending on your mix of comrades could be a breeze or require some strategy. But in all the Co-op is very balanced.

The Competitive multiplayer is also very fun. Fast past and really engages you into the match. The devs when crazing and made 60 person matches, you might expect slowdown or lag but I have seen none. They were smart in the way they optimized it to run smoothly. But I find my self just playing 48 person matches, as I feel sometimes 60 can get to hectic. Like Co-op there are classes and each one has its advantages with guns and berserks.

On the negative side I can find things that really bug me. There are not as many guns and the ones they have really don’t have the over the top style that Insomniac is known for. And even with those guns you can only hold two which is really a let back when in first Resistance you could hold all the guns that you collected. The graphics are very nice overall but some things really stand out. Like some textures not really up to par and the explosions looking anything but explosive. And some of the particle affects look pixilated. Maybe that is there way of rendering what a particle would look like in really life but it stands out. Also the hedgehog grenades got screwed up somewhat. I think it’s how they were created. Instead of being a ball they are spiky. Which is what they are supposed to be. But I find many times that they clip, like poly to poly, the edge of something and drop right at my feet.

Even with all of that this is a must have for PS3 and FPS lovers. The single player has a nice challenge to it and the multiplayer makes the game last and last.

      Futile 0

The first Resistance title was the first purchase I made the day I got my PS3. At the time, Resistance was everything I wanted from a console shooter and the multiplayer options had me playing it for some time after I finished the single player campaign. It felt urgent and now, an essential part of the shooter landscape. By contrast, Resistance 2 feels like a game that was rushed to completion and paradoxically feels as though it was released years ago.The problems begin with R2's single player ...

      Confounding single-player is a huge letdown. 0

Very few major gaming sites called out Resistance 2 (Giant Bomb excepted) on its confusing, disappointing single-player campaign. While the original Resistance offered a rigorous challenge with a reasonably engaging storyline with sparks of unique personality, Resistance 2 sags with unfulfilled potential.  The game is technically sound, with a decent graphics engine, solid gunplay and reasonable enemy AI. But everything else just falls off the rails. The storyline is nearly incomprehensible, as ...
