Played WoW for 5 years and quit when Blizzard started selling in-game pets for real money-- whatever spell WoW had on me was broken at that crucial moment and I never looked back.  I tried virtually every major MMO since 2 years after WoW's release and nothing has even come close to sticking with me. Rift is a different breed.  Everything is familiar and yet maybe a half step to a full step beyond anything WoW or other MMO currently has to offer.  Something about the way the world feels has that same sense of wonder and discover I felt with WoW when it was first released.  For me at least, my favorite part of MMOs is exploring the world and getting lost discovering all its nooks and crannies.  Rift delivers in spades.  

What killed WoW for me was when they started making it so you can do pretty much everything without even moving. I could log on and instantly be in a dungeon or raid or anywhere with just one click.
That sounds great, but I play MMOs so that I can explore the content. When you add insanely fast flying mounts then there really isn't much to explore. You're just flying around in noclip mode. It gets old.
 
However with Rift they added all of these little side things you can do like solving puzzles or looting cairns that give me a reason to explore.

We wanted to record a track that really hit up that rush...
