I hope with this comes a revival of RBN. Even to this day there are a few songs on the RBN marketplace that are marked as "Currently Unavailable", forever trapped in release limbo.
They only officially shutdown RBN 3 months ago or so, and AFAIK it was because the tools were broken for so so long, and it wasn't worth it for them to put the resources in to fix it. I'd really like to see them fix it up too, but it seems unlikely that even if this DLC is successful, that it'd be enough to revive RBN.
I would be so stoked for rock band on the new consoles. I hope this is a sign of things to come, and that they don't milk the cow quite as hard as they did at the last go round.
@plwolf: Yes, I have become painfully aware of the ridiculous prices for RB3 drums, or pretty much any RB-related equipment, ever since production stopped and stores liquidated all their remaining stock. Last year one of my pads started losing responsiveness and ultimately completely died, and I was pretty much SOL. I actually even went to the extent of buying a real electronic drum kit, which I then had to route through my PC to get the proper MIDI output, and it was mostly working except I couldn't figure out how to get the bass pedal to stop double-hitting all the time. So I had to return that and fortunately had a friend who was willing to give me his old RB1 drum kit, which is far from ideal but at least it was barely used so I can at least play the game.
Then just yesterday my trusty GH: Warriors of Rock guitar bit the dust; it just stopped syncing with the PS3 no matter what I did, and I suspect that my USB hub may have fried the dongle because it was extremely hot to the touch when I was moving it to different ports, etc. Fortunately I still have my GH: World Tour guitar and the dongle, which still works fine, but it's getting really frustrating to have my RB experience deteriorate so badly over time without paying through the nose for replacement gear.
Even if they just had one final new release with hardware, I'd take immediate advantage to buy backup hardware (although they probably wouldn't even be compatible with the old systems now that I think of it.) Just a sucky situation for the die-hards who've still been playing over the years.
Every time I think about Rock Band these days I think 'shit, I should get an electronic drum kit for that.' I'm really hoping something happens with next-gen, my stuff is broken enough that I'd kind of like new gear if I played again anyway.

my drum pedal only works because it has a fuckton of duct tape attached to it at this point. i'd probably do the same

Pro cymbals are busted for me. :( The drum pedal's one of the newer ones with the crazy stiff spring in it, so it'll never break but it's a bitch to use.
This sort of feels like: "How can we quickly make a few thousand dollars to cover this budget shortfall?"
More RB? Even if they're not all songs I'm interested in, I love you @pope.
God, Arctic Monkeys. That band had so much potential with their first album - some great, ballsy, well-written indie rock with no pretentiousness. And then bam, show business got them and twisted their nuts off.
I dunno. Wasn't their second album heavier and darker than the first album without any real pretentiousness whatsoever?
I for one am excited and a little sad. Sold my 360 a while ago, thinking the dream was dead. If this keeps up, I might pick another one up further down the road if I find one on sale.

One of my friends did extra work for a music based videogame a month ago. He said he had to film good and bad reactions to a song played at a music festival (which I assume will be the framing device for the game?). He said he only did it because of the and I quote "fit birds" and then said whenever he was on camera he just mouthed "this is shit, this is fucking shit" over and over again.
I assume this is rock band or guitar hero and look forward to seeing my mate in whatever it is.
It might actually have been BigFest.
I would totally get this if it was on current platforms. Sadly don't have working drums anymore but still love to play gh when I get the chance. For me, Guitar Hero was always for guitar and for rock band it was all about drums.

Eh, not really. Brianstorm was a great track, but I couldn't get behind anything else on that CD. I know it reviewed well or whatever, but for me stuff like Fluorescent Adolescent was a sign of them getting whipped by a producer.
@gista: They haven't put out an album I have enjoyed in over a decade so it's easy for me.
Jesus Christ Balmer.
