Seems like Nintendo wanted to attract the lucrative teenage market this time, and not lose it to the PSP as they did in 2005. Sure, you could argue that they didn't lose much, considering how the PSP ended up, but it seems Nintendo wants the 3DS to hit the ground sprinting when it hits.
It's great to see Nintendo taking the initiative of going straight to a publisher for a game (like a man) instead of just sitting there and waiting for them to come to you (like a woman).
