Overview
Scrolls is a fantasy-themed game combining elements of collectible card games and strategy RPGs. It is developed by Mojang AB, the creators of Minecraft.
On June 29th, 2015, Mojang stated in a blog post that Scrolls would no longer receive content updates or development focus outside of balance patches. Servers will remain open until at least July 1st, 2016. The servers may remain open beyond this date if the game has generated enough revenue to support the servers staying online.
Bethesda Lawsuit
In August 2011, lawyers on behalf of Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, threatened Mojang with legal action, claiming that the title "Scrolls" could cause confusion with Bethesda's franchise, The Elder Scrolls. Markus "Notch" Persson, founder of Mojang, responded with a (supposedly) serious offer to settle the matter with a Mojang-vs.-Bethesda match in Quake III: Arena. Bethesda did not agree, but the two parties later settled out of court. Mojang retained the right to name their game "Scrolls," while Bethesda continued to hold the trademark.
