PS2 version or HD version?

I have the PS2 copy of this game, and sadly have never played it. After all the amazing things I've heard from this game, would be it be advised to play this version, or pick up the HD remake? Does the HD make the visuals that much more.. umph?

It's damn good. Wide screen, good framerate. Definitely worth getting.

The HD collections are also supposed to have a lot of bonus content not originally released in the US right?

Go for the HD version. I loved the original, but it was chunky and framey and washed out. The collection, which includes Ico, is truly breathtaking at times and at its current low price there's no reason to avoid it. Good on you for buying the original, though!

There's absolutely no reason to play the PS2 version rather than the HD version.

If you have a PS3 then just get the HD. I tried to play the PS2 version on mine years ago and the frame rate dip is crazy. I don't know if the HD version fixes it but at least you would get Ico with it

HD version definitely. You'll get ICO along with the package, trophies (if you care about that sort of thing), and a cloud save (if you have PS+). The game also runs way better, widescreen, better frame rate, sound.

I got it last year for the first time in HD (mostly to play ICO, so I only got around to Shadow of the Colossus this year) and it is breathtaking (even as someone who didn't play the original). I honestly think the HD release is a fantastic set - going by the developer video that came with it, they didn't just upscale everything in-game; they went to the original textures and re-added them (since they had originally made the textures in a higher resolution than the PS2 could handle).

I thought I would really enjoy this game so I grabbed the HD version and ended up not liking it at all. I would say since you already have the PS2 version, give that a try. If you find that you like it, you could then pick up the HD version before you get too far into it. If you are going to like it you will probably be able to tell fairly early on.

The HD remake is phenomenal. I'd go for that.

It looks great in HD and the collection doesn't cost much but you already own the game. I had it on PS2 as well but bought the collection for ICO, so if that's something that interests you then it's probably worth it. Shadow of the Colossus is one of the technical marvels of the PS2 so the collection really helps bring that aspect out but if you already own the game I think you should at least try taking out the first colossus to see if this is something you're having a lot of fun with.

I sold my PS2 versions of ICO and SOTC (was still sealed) prior to purchasing the HD Collection. Go with HD collection.

The HD version is superior in every way. Definitely play that version.

Get the HD version. The PS2 version's framerate is awful in spots and the remake is superb.

I haven't played it on the PS2, but I'll just chime in to say that the HD version is fucking fantastic.

HD all the way

Unless you have a CRT hooked up and ready to go, go for the HD version. The fact that it runs at a solid framerate alone is worth getting it.

I found the HD version to be infinitely more playable than the PS2 version. The framerate dips (or dives, more like) made me give up on the PS2 version pretty fast.

HD obviously!

Get the HD version.
