    Overview

Shanghai: Sangoku Pai Tougi (loosely translated to "Shanghai: Three Kingdoms Tile Battle") is a mahjong solitaire game developed by Warashi and released by Taito (under license from Activision) for arcades (using their PS1-based Taito G-NET hardware) in Japan in 2002.

Part of the Shanghai series, it is a sequel to Shanghai: Shouryuu Sairin and includes five game modes:

    • Classic Shanghai - Traditional arcade-style mahjong solitaire with puzzles from the arcade versions of Shanghai, Shanghai II, and Shanghai III.
    • Sangokushi Mode - New to the series. A single-player campaign based on the the conflicts during the Three Kingdoms period of ancient China (as detailed in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, or "Sangokushi"). Players take control of one of four generals as they build up territorial control (shown in a strategy view) by completing puzzles.
    • Dan'i Nintei Mode - New to the series. Translated to "Rank Certification", players are graded based on the amount of time they take to complete puzzles.
    • Taisen Mode - Two-player competitive multiplayer.
    • Shanghai Kai ・ Kunlun - New to the series. A variant of traditional mahjong solitaire. Similar to most other variants, this type is named after a Chinese region (with this one based on the Kunlun Mountains).

It was later ported to the PlayStation 2 on December 19, 2002, where it was released by SUNSOFT.

It was also ported by SUNSOFT to the iPhone on September 15, 2009, featuring the Sangokushi Mode. Overseas, it was released as Mahjong Solitaire: Three Kingdoms Saga.
