    Hey duders and duderettes!

Persona 3 Portable is a great version of P3, but it does have one serious flaw in that it no longer has all of the great anime cutscenes that were included in the PS2 versions of the game. I wanted to make a guide to help out people who are playing P3P but still want to see the scenes. It's probably a bit late at this point, but it's possible that some of you out there are doing a playthrough in anticipation of P4G. A quick note before we begin: a solid amount of this stuff won't really make much sense if you're playing as the female lead since the story is a bit different and the dialogue options change, but you can still get the gist of the story if you watch stuff, say, at the end of the day it happens.

Basic overview of the guide structure: I'll put the date and time of day of the cutscene at the top of each post. Then, inside of a highlight spoiler, I'll put the line or lines of dialogue immediately preceding the cutscene. Below that, there will be a link to the scene on Youtube as well as a stopping point in the video. Sorry in advance about 240p, the videos I link to aren't from my youtube account. As an example, a day on the guide will look like this:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    mm/dd/yy - Time

    Junpei: "Something about girls."

    http://www.youtube.com/

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Each dashed line represents a new day, so keep a lookout for the busier days, like 4/8, 11/4, and so on. With that out of the way, let's get to the guide!

Most irksome thing is how hard it is to believe they couldn't cram those little bits of compressed video onto a UMD given that the game size amounts to under 1.3GB.

Though I've already played FES, thanks for the effort!

@TAFAE: Good job. Maybe you should submit this in the form of a guide once the redesign is up (since that part of the website will get an overhaul from what I gather).

    Tafae,

I just found this so I'm a little late to the party, but thanks so much for this. An excellent bit of work you've done here. This post instantly catapults P3P from the worst version of the game to the best version.

    great anime cutscenes

    Great? Nah, not really.

Though, P3P is definitely missing something when all you have are the visual novel-esque pictures and a background picture. The more I've seen of the anime cutscenes, though, the more I've thought that they should have just done without them. But the characters standing around and the emoticons and stuff are what I really missed from P3P; despite looking really cheesy, they do a whole lot for giving the scene better context.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, people. It's possible to admire the tone and art-style of of those cut-scenes while acknowledging that their production isn't always of the highest quality. I liked watching every one, though I'm with Believer on the rest of his points- FES is definitely the way to play Persona 3.

    great anime cutscenes

    Great? Nah, not really.

What? The art style of those are awesome.

@video_game_king Do you have some screens of those anime cutscenes laying around anywhere?

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, people. It's possible to admire the tone and art-style of of those cut-scenes while acknowledging that their production isn't always of the highest quality. I liked watching every one, though I'm with Believer on the rest of his points- FES is definitely the way to play Persona 3.

I wouldn't say "definitely". I'm just far too bugged when my party members don't perform the action that I wanted them too, and in P3P you don't have that issue, and that is its strength.

If someone actually likes the automatic party members in FES and considers it an improvement, that's fine. And, to be fair, most of the time they work really well, which is why I'm still playing FES (when I get the chance) and not P3P. Some people even say that it makes them seem more like characters instead of your pawns, an argument I feel holds no water when you can change their equipment and tactics anyway but OK. Still, when it comes down to pure mechanics, P3P holds up a little better. It just has a few problems with conveying the story.

Both are fine ways to play Persona 3, and Persona 3 should be played.

    Yo.
    Yo.

Yes. That. Whoa, that's pretty bad.

Yeah, you're right, but I wouldn't call it outright bad.

Awesome, thanks for this! I'm playing 3 for the first time since it first came out. I was waffling between FES and P3P and ultimately went with the latter (on Vita) for the portability and some of the dungeon improvements but I definitely wanted to kind of "splice" in the cutscenes to my experience.
