This ranking seems unscientific

I know it must cost a fortune to make but damn I wish KoF still looked as good as this game.

I was round a mates, and they were playing Zangief in SFIV on the Xbox, microphone through the TV etc.

He was reported/harassed because "knowing the moves is cheating" thing is, we were just trading a stick around trying to pull off 360's, it wasn't even that tactical.

KoF was really ahead of its time. I wish I could select the odor in every game.

You can tell this is a modern GBW video because all the gameplay sounds like its being captured over the Laveliers.

It is completely ok for you to discuss or play a game featuring Earthworm Jim, but it's a shame to do so without mentioning his creator, Doug TenNapel, is a notorious racist, bigot, homophobe, and contributing writer for Breitbart. Do your part to make people aware of the bad apples in the industry, and to keep them out.

KoF XII was definitely gorgeous, but it was basically a beta test for a better game. Characters lost moves from previous games and the roster was tiny by KoF standards.

Whew boy that Asian racism. That Clayfighters game sure has not aged well in any way.

To this day i still don't understand how Clay Fighters made any sequels, i refuse to believe that the first game sold that well.

KOF used to be so good, god tier Sprite art and animations.

I remember when I got some hatemail in a fighting game that I actually don't think I can reproduce here without violating at least 2 of the rules (it involved a historical figure murdering my mother), but suffice to say: the person put SO MUCH effort into it that it wrapped back around and became honestly hilarious.

Sometimes more is not better in the case of KOF.

I remember when Ben said that was a sound alike I was thinking "no that's definitely him." Its no Ready 2 Rumble Boxing but the man has done some work in video games.

Also, King of Fighters is (was?) a great series, and I loved how the different characters would have unique interactions with each other before Street Fighter or any other whuppin' game started following suit.

Clay Fighter, by contrast, was NOT a great series.

@benpack The way fights flow in KoF reminds me a lot of smash. I guess it's all the short hopping.

King of Fighters 12 had a really great art style. I could never juggle to Fighting games at the same time, so I leaned to Tekken, but KOF was my 2nd choice.

Now Clay fighters i hope they only made these to appeal to their licensed franchise public

Man KOF 12 looked gorgeous! The backgrounds are so alive and vibrant.

Meanwhile Clayfighter was obviously the complete antithesis to KOF '12. Honestly Clayfighter is the Bubsy of fighting games. It was a series that debuted in the SNES/Genesis era as a "comedic" take on a popular gaming genre. But then it met its rightful fall in the N64/PS1 era with a beyond terrible transition to 3D.

@noobsauce: This is nothing compared to Marvel vs. Capcom or modern anime fighters.

it's funny to drop Clayfighter at the bottom like that but honestly I'd take it over that Deadliest Warrior game any day

also Tress MacNeille, Frank Welker, Charlie Adler, Rob Paulsen, and Jim Cummings voice the rest of the characters. It's weirdly filled with legendary cartoon voices for something so bad. They got all three Animaniacs!

from Wikipedia I learned Sculptor's Cut only includes four of the five originally cut characters, because Nintendo didn't approve of the fifth one: Hobo Cop, an alcoholic homeless vigilante.

but Sumo Santa and Kung Pow were alright with them.

KoF is weird to me because the detail and animation is stunning. Looking at the characters individually they're all gorgeous and have these incredible animations right down to the walks. The backgrounds are packed with action, and the lighting is a really cool touch. Yet for some reason when you put it all together it doesn't stand out to me. I think maybe it's just too much at once to process?

Also perhaps they changed it in later games, but that Raiden thing is not a burp, it's Green Mist (which, as Ben notes, is a wrestling thing). It's supposed to blind, burn, or otherwise poison. I'm with Ben that burp attacks are gross, but this one doesn't qualify for that.

This feature is boring without Jeff.

To be more specific this feature needs three people. The third man is there to keep the conversation interesting because playing a game inhibits your ability to talk. I don't get what the hell is happening with the west side crew. Each segment has less and less people. Even UPF is now sometimes two or three people sitting there playing games looking bored.

It's amazing how all the KOF games end up in similar spots between the thouzands of other fighting games that were made :D
