Edit 2: I really urge anyone who hasn't seen it to watch This is Phil Fish, which is a very excellent video essay examining internet fame and what it means to be a celebrity in the digital age. I think a lot of people can learn from it, and it's something I go back and rewatch every now and then. It seems especially relevant given the awful news of Etika's death. Thank you Ben for being human and vulnerable and talking about this.

Man, getting internet in the US seems wild. The idea that a company will lay down a cable for a single customer is very foreign to me. We have a cable here in the region and if you live here you get to use that. If you don't live in this region, you will have to get an alternative (until company A expands). To be fair, Ben's story is about the mechanic having to do the last step from the box towards his place but that step being through so many yards seems like a bad situation. Here the cable is placed at the front of each building and doesn't have to go through any yards.

I think what people don't realize is the tremendous pressure put on these young YouTuber/streamer celebrities. What starts as fun becomes a job and there can be an anxiety that builds up on that letting down your audience or not being able to change.

It's funny how I know of Etika because it's through AlexCND whose videos I enjoyed quite a bit. Etika became a mentor for Alex and close friend, as you can see in their videos. Alex went off the grid and opened up about his mental health and how he couldn't deal with forcing himself to cover just Nintendo stuff for kids when he is no longer that person. He still hasn't come back and this Etika stuff just makes it all worse.

It's not just them though. Those are just two examples where I bet this could apply to a lot of online personalities out there that feel alone underneath it all and the constant pressure to have to be "on point" every day and do what people want you to do can grind you down. So if you do have mental issues you need to work on, I expect it makes it harder to get better.

YouTube could do a better job itself with reaching out to streamers like these and offering/suggesting help. YouTube is far beyond "a platform for user videos" as they constantly interfere with content and content creators, so there is room for them to be a positive influence and nurture talent in the way a movie studio may care for its young stars (if only to ensure they remain productive.)

I hadn't heard, does Brad have super fast internet at a reasonable price with no cap? I must keep missing it...

@patmcc19: Weird how that works cause when I was living in South East Phoenix/Tempe I had one of the very first cable modems. Installer dude showed up and just said this is going to be easy you're going to get free HBO, proceeded to install. At the time they were so new they framed them in extra car amplifier cases. Not going to say I went straight to Usenet and got some Dreamcast stuff but I did play Sword of Berserk for 3 minutes that day.

I almost never wash my feet directly. I have sat down in the shower, though. My dream is to have a shower with a built-in seat in it. A family friend's house that we would stay at on holiday weekends and stuff from time to time when I was younger had a guest room shower that had a protrusion from the wall where you could sit. It was glorious.

Pancakes are way better than waffles. The reason for this is that Belgian Waffles have become the default norm. Have you ever had a non-Belgian waffle? They're way better. Massively so. Belgian waffles suck in comparison.

Also, the podcast title totally should've been "Touching All that Wet Meat."

I clean my feet because they’re hairy and if you’ve ever tried washing a car without scrubbing then you know the dirt just dries back onto the car w the water.

Although I also use water on my TP for the same reason so you all probably think I’m the devil.

I think I'm going to make a conscious effort to start washing my feet in the shower much more regularly after watching this podcast.

@development: Get a bidet. Water makes toilet paper softer and less good at doing its job, plus you get tiny little flecks of TP in your butthole. Toilet paper is made to dissolve in water.

As for the specks of tp thing: I’ve heard that from people but that’s never been an issue with me. I don’t use too much water. People would tell me if I had pieces of paper down there.

@development: You can buy one that just goes on the rim of the toilet and hooks up to the valve beside the toilet. I've got one in my apartment. Not sure what your layout is but you can get them for $50 or less. If you've got the ability to get one, me and my bum recommend it!

Enjoyed the Switch Mini talk. I think I may take the plunge if that thing comes up and is $200 or under.

I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the 64, and feel like I could use some of that Nintendo magic again. At this point, there are at least 4 or 5 games I'm interested in. If there is no docking, that doesn't really worry me too much. Big release games that I buy for my PS4 will still due the job on the tv.

The only thing that has me hesitant is my time with the Vita. I use my Vita occasionally when flying on planes, but it really ended up becoming a handheld PS1 classic machine for me. My hope is that I'll be more engaged since the Switch will have a lot of enjoyable games on it.

As a person with a Switch that is currently collecting dust, I'd say that thing should have shipped with permanently attached controls and a separate gamepad in the first place.

The joycons are ergonomically horrific. They could have made a better handheld and better console had they ditched the needless "requirement" to use the same controllers for both. Probably could have put it out at the same price point too without the need to put batteries and wireless transponders into two tiny controllers (and ditched the almost entirely unused IR sensor).

So I think the reason I'm okay with the lack of polish with Bloodstained is that it feels like a team punching above their weight, and in general I like that kind of jank.

@sweetz: I’m down with this. Every time Ben talks about using it in handheld mode I can’t imagine how he does it with his hands that size. I’m pretty short with matching short fingers and the JoyCons are the worst. 15 minutes is about all I can get without discomfort. I’d be fine with one with NO attached controllers and just a Pro Controller.

For the early stages I didn't really have any issues, but late game dudes have been ROUGH for me. Especially the secret bosses. There's one that killed me with an attack AFTER I killed him and I nearly lost my mind.

I just wanna give a big thank you to Ben for having the kindness and the courage to use his platform to spread awareness and positivity and empathy. It's incredibly easy to not bring up stuff like mental health. You assume no one wants to hear it. You assume no one else needs to hear it. You assume someone else will say something. For the people who don't need it, it's just a sad story. For the people that DO need it, though, hearing people you look up to tell you that it's okay and that help is available can literally save lives.

Unless you bidet shoots soap up your ass, you're not really cleaning anything. If you wash your hands in clean water after having dug around in your ass, that is very clearly unsanitary. Same goes for your ass. Water isn't magical.

Bidets offers people a false sense of cleanness... It also makes people's hands wet while they wipe their sploshed asses.. And that water is partly fecal matter. Dry wipers need to really screw up to get anything on their hands. Bidets are nasty as fuck.

Real bummed to see more comments complaining about a few minor ads than commending Ben (and then Jeff) for his words toward the end of the podcast. That little bit needs to be clipped out and made sharable.
