Giant Bombcast 683: Nier Automotive GP

Alright I thought had let this go, but with Nier coming back up, the continued mispronunciation of "automata" bugs me so much.

It's pronounced aw-tom-uh-ta, the same as you would say the word automaton because it is the plural of the word automaton. It is not auto-mata.

@shiro2809: I love that this weird joke(?) ending became a series. I never got around to playing through Drakengard 2 but I loved the first game's weirdness and the way they switch up the gameplay (even though the combat isn't the best).

I can't wait to play the prequel, I never found a used copy of it after Automata came out so when they announced this I got super hyped.

@dijidiji: I need to play the Drakengards at some point ;_; I did a run of through and was on the B playthrough, iirc, but never finished it. Need to get to them at some point!

imo, the original is better than Automata in a lot of ways, the gameplay shifts being one of them! There's more and they have more variety. They're both excellent games and easily in my top 3 series with the original Nier being my #1 game.

Also fun fact, and something I learned recently, is prequels have to come out after the thing it's taking place before, meaning prequels have to be a sequel. Since Nier came out before Automata, it's not a prequel!

Man, Jan is such an entertaining storyteller. Excellent store manager voice too.

Let me recommend the movie "Scorpion's Revenge" from last year. It's an animated MK movie and it's not only a ton of fun but it takes the material seriously. I think the best campy movies care about their subject matter and have the characters act like the situations are life and death. It's our job as the audience to laugh at how silly the premise is. And let's all face it, MK is cheesy as hell.

The Yaris is alive and well outside of the USA. In fact one of the most exciting cars of 2021 was a Yaris homologation special.
