Hey Paul, glad you are feeling better. Burst appendix sounds really rough. Glad you made it through!!

I had my appendectomy when I was a young kid and that shit is no joke. Mine didn't rupture and was 100% a routine surgery with no problems but it was still very painful. I've broke a bone in my leg in 3 places, had to get a hardware put in, and the pain from my appendectomy was way worse than that. Every step you take after the surgery feels like a knife got jammed into you.

Hope you're feeling better, Paul!

This was tragic and hilarious at the same time.

Can't overstate how glad I am Paul made it through that. I hope you feel even better shortly!

This was great. Paul if you read this I'm truly glad you're feeling better.

Holy shit! Appendicitis and associated peritonitis almost killed my dad a few years ago, I'm glad Mr. Ryckert is doing okay!

Hope Paul's feeling better. My mom's burst last Christmas night and it was not a good time.

You men are both wonderful and I'm so happy Paul is okay. Keep being great.

Sounds like a nightmare. Glad he made it out of it and is able to laugh about it so soon afterwards.

The only thing I don't like about these podcasts is that they're not twice as long.

Had my galbladder taken out last year, similar experiences. Woke up in hospital room at 3am, dazed, confused, really had the shits. I unplug the IV and start to waddle out of bed when I feel this great weight drop from between my lefts and start dangling. For a brief few moments I had thought my testicles had fallen off and were dangling by veins.

Turns out it was a semi clear bladder, the doctor had a shunt put in to have liquid drain into this thing so they could check it for infections or something, the nurse forgot to pin/tape it to my gown.

The following morning when I asked they remove the bladder and the half inch thick tubing running into my gut; the nurse simply called for a bigger nurse. He said he'd pull on 'three', then pulls on 'two'. Chunks of flesh came with the tube, one of the worst feelings in the world.

Modern medicine is amazing and terrifying.

I hope all these messages of good will get back to Paul. Sounds like a horrifying experience, glad you are getting back to full health!

That's serious. He could have bled to death.

@xanadu: Appendix ruptures are very scary. I had it happen to my dad and sepsis is a very real concern when that happens.

Paul Ryckert is a beautiful human being.

I think disguising oneself as a nurse is a very bad idea. Disguising yourself as anyone when entering a hospital is FROWNED upon because hospitals have to deal with real security issues every moment. It may sound un-fun; but health care workers have to deal with enough bullshit that is real, scary, and REAL-SCARY without practical jokes.

Was not expecting a podcast given the circumstances, Paul. Get better!

The last time I had medical issues (nothing serious, far long ago), I remember appologizing profusely to the doctor dealing with my...unpleasent discharges. The professionalism is a relief at those times, yeah.

Oh, and I know I said this on Twitter, Dan, but the bit where it goes to the wider shot and it's the silhouette of you hugging your dad in the doorway is legit beautiful, both in sentiment and shot composition. You can make all the noise you want about slacking your way through film studies, but I see you.

That video of Dan's surprise visit was very sweet, good to see him using his pranking skills for good instead of evil!

Well it's a good thing he didn't enter a hospital with the disguise, but Paul's house... Maybe lighten up a little? That was a lovely surprise for Paul with all the best intentions.
