All Systems Goku 10

Well the good news for Dan and Jeff is that they are past the worst part of Kai. I feel like this particular batch of episodes was by far the worst.

@njn: I agree that is not bad filler but it kind of goes against the entire point of what Kai was supposed to be about, that's the part that gets to me, stuff like this is going to only get worse from here on out especially in the Buu section where they did not even bother to trim down most of the padding.

Definitely getting some Rick and Morty from Jeff's Vegeta.

Here's the thing about " those people". I think from what I've heard from Jeff's own mouth is that they are trying to help, but are kinda fucking up a bit on a social level. They are definitely not "the worse", nor are "assholes" or part of the "bad internet". I don't think that's thier intention.

People are going to say things. Sometimes this things will be wrong and they won't know it until its said. All they can hope for is to ask them to stop and hope they get the memo( some folks might be even listening on the feed and be late...then say the thing they where told not to say )

If you want a problem to be solved, it helps not to assume the worse of people. The nice guys and pax and the people who posted something that irritated them...probably the same people.

My memory of Dragon Ball Z as a kid is that Goku’s spirit bomb took 5 whole episodes. Am I remembering wrong or was it really that bad?

On a scale of 1 to 9000 how Petty is it of me to want them to stop doing anime podcasts after Dragonball just to spite the zealots?

I do appreciate that they branched out this episode and talked about how Wrestling Mania is just Western anime. I'm happy to see these hardcore lifelong anime fans stepping outside of their comfort zone for once to see that there's more anime out there than the stuff you see on TV.

I wouldn't wish the full uncut DBZ on anyone, but I also kinda wish there was a "just the filler" blu-ray or something so they could watch the episode where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive.

Oh boy, that's right, The spirit bomb used to take forever. Also Goku turning Super Saiyan was heavily promoted back in the day if I recall correctly, I remember getting super psyched it was really happening but also that I knew it was coming, it wasn't something out of nowhere.

The Goku vs Freeza fight also made me really tense back in the day, watching it at my grand parents house because our shower was broken.

For everyone saying 'should have watched 6'...I watched seven and there's still a cliffhanger. There's no good stopping point. It's almost like it was designed that way or something.

They 5 episodes they watch have generally been great ways to package the show. Like next week is all super Saiyan, just like how this week covered all of round 1 if Goku vs frieza

Love the podcast guys! I'm a fellow Kai guy and this is about where the Frieza saga started to drag for me as well.

Sorry about potentially repeating something you may have already heard but you guys should pickup the double feature: Bardock and The History of Trunks. I believe they were both aired as specials back in the day and unlike all of the DBZ movies they're both canonical to the DBZ story.

The Bardock special honestly isn't that great and you guys have basically seen the best parts via DBZ Kai but The History of Trunks... it just adds so much and it's really good. As for when a good time to watch them: Bardock you could watch whenever really and for the other special I would maybe wait until a couple episodes after Trunks makes his first appearance to watch The History of Trunks. No specific reason I just think giving Trunks introduction some space to breathe before diving into the special is a good way to go. I honestly would be shocked/stunned/flabbergasted if you guys didn't like the Trunks special.

WWE is bad don't watch it if you want some good wrestling watch NJPW or some indie stuff. This is my dumb anime you gotta watch X or Y

I wish they would just turn this website into a 100% Dragon Ball Z focused website. This is the best!

Really can't get enough of Jeff's Vegeta voice

When people rag on DBZ filler their minds tend to go to all of the newly added story arcs (some lasting only an episode and others lasting weeks) but to be honest a lot of that stuff is pretty entertaining, especially if you're a kid being introduced to this show for the first time with no external knowledge of the comic. The really problematic thing about DBZ's pacing is how they stretch out main story beats across multiple episodes - like the Spirit Bomb, or just the fight in general. This is my first time watching the Kai version and it's highly refreshing to be able to blaze through this section of the show so briskly!

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall at Toei's offices when they were planning out episodes.

I think this track is about Frieza, it's neat

They will have a far more awkward stopping point in couple weeks when they get off the Frieza arc and just stop in a kind of weird place that is sort of between the arcs and sort of not. Really though they should be watching twenty episodes each week, as well as entire seasons of Jojo, One Piece, and Family Matters.

@dprotp: I didn’t think my comment was a problem when I was writing it but I guess my comment is kind of in line with what they’re talking about. Sorry if it came off as pushy as that wasn’t my intention. Frankly, I’m just excited for them because of how into DBZ they’ve gotten. I put my comment out there just as a friendly recommendation expecting nothing from it but I guess even those probably get annoying when you get enough of them so if Jeff or Dan are reading this I’m sorry. Love the podcast and I’m looking forward to your reactions to seeing the golden hair for the first time!

I wonder how Jeff and Dan are going to react to the music change after the freeza saga on Kai blu-rays.

@emersion: Dan and Jeff are watching the season set Blu-ray's so the music is going to be the same even after Freeza saga. The music only changes composers if they were watching on the original Blu-ray's. The season set rereleases had the music changed before release.

Jeff's Shitty Vegeta Voice and Jeff's Shitty Yamcha Voice are merging and it's even MORE funny!

But yah, Captain Ginyu is in DBFZ, @danryckert, but he's kinda rarely seen cuz his Ginyu Force move is a set (each time the move is done another of the other 4 comes out than it repeats)(?)

Someone more learned than me fill him in on that one, I just know it's the Adult Gohan/16/21/Cell/Vegeta-fest from most streams. :P

When they mentioned that Goku seemed calm when he first came out to take on Frieza, it made me wonder if they'd noticed that the kanji on Goku's gi had changed again, from the Kame symbol for Roushi when the show started, to King Kai's symbol after training with King Kai, and now to the first character in Goku's name, which means enlightenment or awakening, which seems very appropriate when he first shows up with it, after doing his own training.

I agree. This was a tough stretch for me when I was watching through DBZ Kai.

That said, the next two sets of episodes should be great.

Ginyu is totally in DBFZ and he can do the body swap!

you take that back, the original dbz background music is AMAZING and so much better than any of the American made garbage trash that deserves to burn in the deepest pits of hell

I like the music that accompanies calm Goku quite a bit. There's a lot of that tune in those 5 episodes.
