Yay, speedy race cars!

Given the state of Venezuela and how Pastor's been placed in cars largely due to the wealth Venezuela's state oil companies once held, I'm not sure Pastor is going to end up in a speedy crash car of any kind again.

Drew's portuguese gets better with every Brazilian GP

A few things:

- Drew, you nailed the name of my hometown, good job!

- Danny, Barrichello is not the only Brazilian to not win Interlagos. We've had several F1 drivers (Zonta, Pizzonia, and Bruno Senna, for example) who never even won a GP.

- Massa's complaint about Singapore '08 is not random: that's the year he lost the title to Hamilton in Brazil. If the FIA had done something about that race or if Piquet hadn't crashed, he'd probably become world champion that year.

I wanted to quote Blain (from the pic), but then I'd say the F word and get banned.

Drew, SuperGT (*and* Super Formula!) are at Motegi this weekend, and Super GT is running two rounds -- one as a replacement for the race affected by the Kumamoto earthquake earlier this year (that round would have been at Autopolis). The YouTube coverage is officially provided by Nissan/NISMO in partnership with Radio Le Mans, which means you get to hear Tired Knowledgeable Brits commentating on the race and getting creative with their Japanese translations. Shout out to Mr. Orange Jacket Man.

What makes Super GT so fascinating is the level of development. Engineering and making the cars better through parts development is getting rarer and rarer, but Super GT's top class sees factory work by engineering departments for Honda, Nissan and Toyota, and each team is partnered with multiple tire brands (Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokohama, Dunlop) in one of the world's last "tire war" racing series. If you've caught up with F1 in the late '90s/early 2000s, you'll know just what an impact tire wars can have on lap times and speeds.

Even though the GT500 cars are incredibly similar to DTM cars, they would smoke them head-to-head due to the tires. And around Fuji Speedway, the fastest GT500 laps come close to the privateer non-hybrid LMP1 cars of the World Endurance Championship, easily beating the WEC GT cars. Super Formula is much the same, with advanced under-car aero allowing their cars to be almost as fast as your Manor or Sauber at Suzuka.

Japanese racing has a pretty awesome history of craziness, and I'm glad it's easier to find now than ever before.

All around good marks for effort in pronouncing things in (Brazilian) Portuguese!

(we call it PT-BR, and the difference between Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese Portuguese is quite similar to American/British English: mostly vocabulary and pronunciation, though we also use some different verbal forms from the Portuguese)
