Good gravy, what a race! I was sitting down when they started, stood up around lap 30, and didn't sit back down until the podium ceremony.

Thanks for this @drewbert and @dannyodwyer

I've been enjoying this podcast despite not having ever watched F1, or much of motorsports in general. The 2014 Canada GP was the first race I ever watched. Thanks to Alt+F1 I had a vague sense of who everyone was, I knew why having KERS break was a bad thing, and even though I wanted to see Force India come from behind to take it all I'm really happy for Ricciardo. Is it always that amazing? I think I'm hooked.

Aww, looks like I put off writing in this week too long. Thanks for the podcast duders! That was a hell of a race, and fun to chat about it in that test chat.

Graining is when small pieces of the rubber fall off and you get a rough surface with less grip and the tyre wear is more potent. This can happen for a number of resons but i cant tell exactly why. The only way to get rid of it is to somehow stop the graining and then just drive and wear through the grained layer and into fresh rubber again.

Found this if you like to read.

Oh man this makes me appreciate it even more, thanx guys!

Having chat up for the race was awesome although it did surface the time delay some of the channels and feeds have, it completely blew up when Massa hit Perez, hope we can have chat up more often. Was kind of gutted Massa didn't make it on the podium. He had such bad luck on the pitstop, and then running into the back of Perez cause he had brake trouble and had to brake extra early Sad to see them both go out cause They were both running pretty good.

Also concerning the Hamilton Rosberg corner cutting stuff, I think the reason Nico did not have to hand a place to Lewis was that Lewis was still behind Nico when he locked up and had to cut the corner, but when Lewis cut the corner they were actually side by side. At the time I actually thought they had made contact.

As for the problem with the brakes on the mercs, I remember hearing Nico ask the race engineers what brake bias Lewis was on and them telling him Lewis was on a more rear bias than he was, don't know but that could have somthing to do with why Lewis had more problems with it.

sorry for the long comment and the bad spelling and grammar guys, I got a bit over excited

Cheers!

Anyone know why Bottas dropped off so much? Just bad tyre management or what? I felt really bad for Massa and him after the great qualifying they put up.

@sykdom: yes he pushed to hard for to long and wasnt very smart about it. He also aint one of the best drivers on the grid and lacks the skill to pull off what Ricciardo did. This was the perfect race for the Williams cars and they blew it.

Well apparently he suffered with high brake and engine temperatures, which didn't help his times I'm sure about his skull or what not since I haven't been watching for very long. But hanks for your input.

Glad surprise to have the podcast this week, I was not expecting it. And I also really enjoyed the race.

My 2 cents on what was being commented on the Podcast:

The incident with Kimi kissing the wall Drew mentioned on Qualy, was actually at turn 3, the same wall where Bianchi crashed during the race and not that the Wall of Champions as he mentioned.

Tyre graining, yeah that is a thing, it can happens on a new type after a couple of laps, it looses grip, then the grains themselves wears off and the tyre get back to normal performance.

Rosberg and Hamilton were not side by side when Rosberg overshoot the chicane, he was quite ahead of Hamilton and missed the braking point, that was a mistake that did not cause him to gain any significant advantaged, that is why he was not penalized, just got the warning, if they were side by side he would be penalized for sure.

Vettel had a bad pitstop and got back on the track behind the Force Indias and got stucked there. He was not overtaken by anyone on the race track, he lost all positions because of the pit. Massa also had the same "luck" he had a terrible pit and put him behind the other cars, he could have won this race.

About that hypothetical Rosberg getting a penalty and his break fails instead of Hamilton's this is just the wishful thinking and constant whining of the British press.

Bottas made a mistake, he did not missed the corner apex on propose to benefit his team mate.

That incident with Perez/Massa at the end, what scary indeed, and Vettel was luck to not be T-Boned by Massa, I remembered of Zanardi's crash at the Eurospeedway in Germany. Glad nothing serious happened, but Perez was penalized because he in fact veered left to "protect" his position but ended up causing the crash.

For me the driver of the race was Riccardo, his overtake on Perez was beautiful and gave him the victory, since Rosberg was racing using a lame mule.

Also honorary mention to Rosberg for the effort of carrying that car to the end of the race and finishing up in second, basically with much less power then the competition, and he had to mess completely with his brake balance to avoid compromising his rear brakes, what made the car very hard to drive.

Man, what dedication! Drew's story reminds me of when I watched the 2000 Belgian Grand Prix, live on a black and withe screen smaller than an Ipad at some lake house surrounded by a bunch of noncaring people. They sure looked at me funny when Mika passed Michael and I couldn't help but jumping out of my chair.

Man, right down to bizness in this one (also I missed this going up last week somehow? Discovering it was like finding buried treasure). All racing reports, no amusing digressions--so I reckon it's a good thing earlier episodes have gotten me to pay attention to F1 and, as a result, become more interested in the bits where they talk about the race.

That Canada race was crazy as hell. I had a similar reaction to Danny at the crash, which was to lean back in my chair with an audible "oh fuck."

So true, serious props for racing with full front brake bias, especially in conjunction with the brake by wire system.
