Two minutes in and so many mistakes in their description of the plot.

Just what I'd expect from Giant Bomb. Wouldn't have it any other way! Having their own made-up story is like a brand new game.

I can't wait to see what it turns into by the end.

With a schedule of one episode a week they need long episodes for it to last into/past the summer. Around two hours seems golden.

@magmamud:I think he's a permanent member of the Yakuza Investigation Squad as the series description says "Beast in the East - The Giant Bomb East team takes on the Yakuza series.".

Yesss, I've been waiting for them to meet Mr. Shakedown, They tipped in the last Beastcast that they considered him a well-dressed dude but I'm sure they had more to say than that!

It's been such a long week.

This is pretty awesome!

One piece of advice, even when you upgrade health in Brawler, Rush, or Beast style it applies to your overall health regardless of whatever style you are using.

I have been waiting so eagerly for this, ended up watching the first episode two and a half times. Really looking forward to this whole series.

Please release these more than once a week. Can we do one Monday, one Wednesday?

At first I was miffed at these being weekly, but when you consider this is two hours and the endurance run episodes are usually 30min it makes it easier.

Just hope you guys can keep on top of the plot, I imagine it would be hard to remember everything.

Just so you guys know the substories/side content won't get locked out even if you progress the plot this will only happen in the three last chapters.

The Mega Drive stuff toy seems to be discontinued. Will have to try looking for it in used shops like Mandarake iif you want it, i guess.

@dan Shogi is incredibly complex. I spent like 5 hours trying to beat that guy and never even came close.

The substories will start populating the map when you go back to the apartment and it turns to daytime. They can also be done whenever. Nothing is permanently missable.

the environmental kills im not sure how to activate but the weapon kills you just hold onto a weapon, make sure ur not constantly mashing attack and make sure you have at least 1 bar and if you can do it with that weapon just press triangle.

In case the Beast crew is reading the comments, for the 1 on 1 fights if you hold R1 it locks onto the target and then you can use X to dodge around the enemy (you'ill need to do this for the later boss fights as some towards the mid-end get really challenging without dodging)

Most of the interact-able objects have a heat move associated with them that doesn't rely on grabbing the guy, just build the heat meter up, pick up a weapon and then triangle. there's not really much unique environmental heat based moves, lot of the crazy ones is more based on the weapons you pick up and techniques you get as you level up.

The side stories kind of just activate by just either roaming the city or talking to unique looking NPCs, nothing starts to lock out till the last chapters of the game (there's 17 chapters)

Heat Actions are contextual, some are very specific (like grab enemy from behind while near a knee high railing) and tricky to pull off. If you want a list of the ones you have access to go to the upgrade screen for the style you're using and press Triangle for Details. This will bring up a list of your all your moves. When fighting bosses there's generally a diminishing return damage-wise from using the same one over and over again, so you definitively want to try to vary it up.

Oh, and most Heat Actions aren't available when you're doing a combo. You have to wait a second and be in a neutral stance before the heat icon in the upper right shows up.

Hangover cures instantly reduce your characters "drunkenness" level. Good for if you want to drink more (sampling everything in a restaurant menu gives you completion points to spend at the shrines). Also being drunk helps build HEAT faster, can unlock certain moves, but also makes enemies more eager to pick a fight with you on the street.

"You Can't Beat Mr. Shakedown" is my favorite PS1 import game.

Just because the heat system is a bit unclear I'll write very short list of bulletpoints on it, even though I'll forget something for sure:

• Heat opportunity is indicated by the icon in top right corner (it will disappear when you're attacking aka it's hard to spot while mashing)
• There are default heats that require 1 bar which are
  • Off a grab (contextual but there is always one available, environmental objects such as railings, bridges and above the ground areas have instant kill heat moves)
  • Enemy is on the ground (animation depends on how they are lying)
• Every item you can grab has a heat move
  • Many of animations are the same, on base level they are different for small, medium and heavy objects
  • Some have unique heat animations and may or may not require level 2 heat (baseball bat, the nails, tea kettle etc)

I think that's the very basics. You unlock more powerful and complex heat moves via trainers and the sphere grid. I hope I didn't overstep by explaining this thing but I figured you guys want more cool stuff to happen and I think the game is really bad with explaining this stuff :D

E: Oh yea and each style has unique heat moves, both basic and ones you get from trainers / sphere grid

This is now (at least) the third GB video where someone confuses The Shadow and The Phantom (Persona 4 ER, Super Castlevania IV are the other two IIRC).

You guys, you have to pick up an item and wait for triangle icon to show next to an enemy. Then you can use heat with an item on a dude.

Mouthful of nails is a helluva harsh way to kill someone.

@dan Instead of mashing square to combo, JUST press Triangle to perform Heat actions.

- Stand in front of an enemy with a weapon, press Triangle when the Heat icon shows up.

- Stand next to a downed enemy and press Triangle when the Heat icon shows up to heat him on the floor.

Less important, but both Club Segas have a different arcade game.

@danryckert Dog Day Afternoon is a real good old Pacino movie. Serpico is too, but hard to watch as it moves pretty slow in a 70's way.

There is a help/notebook thing in the pause menu that has bios on all the characters. It explains who is in what family/clan/association and what their role in the story is, so it might be worth to take a look at now and then if you are unsure about the characters.

Edit: Also the rush style is really good against mr. shakedown (and most one on one fights), but you need to build up some heat before it gets really fast.

This series made me buy the game. I never thought I'd be into the Yazuka games, but I'm loving it to far. Can't wait until they meet Majima in Chapter 3.

@dan There are only so many Heat actions you can do by dragging people to walls.
However! Press L1 while holding a man to grab them by the BACK OF THE HEAD.

This opens up all kinds of new fun wall-related Heat actions!
