Suggestion for Kiwami: Send Dan home so he doesn't have to suffer by playing a actually good videogame (love you dan), put Vinny in the control room (love you vinny), and give Abby the controller and just let her play the game with Alex. Just to change thing up.

Oh, good. I didn't see the suggestion forum thread and was hoping someone would make sure they saw what happens when you get a turkey while bowling. Thanks for the supplemental video, GBEast! Love y'all.

@elite49: No, but it's pretty obvious he's not that interested in playing more Yakuza.

I'm hopeful that if he doesn't actually have to play the next one he'll come around on it though. People suggesting he shouldn't have any part in the rest of the series feels pretty dickish, unless he legitimately does not want anything to do with the series anymore. But I feel like he's made it pretty clear it's just the gameplay he's not into.

I am so glad they did this series, this game is one of the few "because Japan" series left in the world. Cant wait to see them stab Toru Yano in the chest when they get around to 6

I think the problem with doing the Yakuza series as a GB series is that from what I've seen the games are oh so similar until 6 where they rework a lot of the systems. If they were to do the rest of the games I'd honestly suggest just mainlining the main stories and yea, put someone else in the drivers seat.

@ivdamke: But often some of the best parts (definitely the funniest parts) of the series take place in the side content. They shouldn't attempt to do everything, but skipping everything but the main story really ignores a lot of what makes Yakuza "Yakuza".

I would also argue the side content where the biggest differences between games come in. The battle system doesn't change drastically from game to game, but each game often has a few side mechanics you don't see anywhere else.

@zeik: It adds so much bloat to the viewing experience though. It's the same issue that I ran into with Metal Gear Scanlon with MGSV. Some of it's funny but honestly there's so much mundane bullshit until you get to the actual punchline. I get that fans of Yakuza would like to see their reactions to some funny side quests but as someone who thinks Yakuza is cool but never jumped into it a lot of them were exceedingly tedious to watch that I ended up skipping when side content came up (this was entire episodes sometimes.)

Mainlining the main story then watching the supplemental side quests at the end would be a better solution honestly. When a new Beast in the East comes once a week I don't want to tune in to find out it's 2 hours of business management and talking to Mr.Libido repeating the same sexual innuendos multiple times.

Is it me, or did Dan just not want to be there? He seemed completely disinterested while playing and sitting through long dialogue scenes. Then his dismissive head shake at the Kiwami trailer. I don't care if he tries to play it off as being a "heel" after all the complaints, but please let Alex drive if they continue so Dan can zone out until the cool parts happen.

Just get rid of Dan for this feature if you're going to do another one. He has said himself he doesn't like watching games, and its pretty obvious whenever he's sitting in on a long playthrough when he constantly goes off topic and pays 0 attention. He's also way too impatient to be playing a game that requires any thought. Does anyone actually know what was happening when every time he went to use a healing item he was constantly scrolling down? You can literally see the impatience.

I foresee Dan being his typical SUPER defensive self come game of the year and completely dismissing the game.

It's mind-boggling how MGS became his favourite series. The combat, at least in 1/on a first playthrough, is way more frustrating than Yakuza 0, and has _long_ stretches of dialogue, yet his reaction to both could hardly be more opposing.

unless he's somehow playing that up as a character.

I don't think he is, but if he is he should stop. Watching him being so dismissive of something he has liked large parts of (i.e. it's not like MPP where the staff are writing off the game as a whole) is no fun to watch.

As a counter-point, as someone who's only exposure to the series was the Yakuza 5 QL, the side stuff was by far the most interesting stuff to me. The main story is excellent, but the side stories have some of the best moments and it's what really makes the game stand out. TBH, I think the downtime makes the main story better - when you have the lulls where you just dink around the city/club/various minigames etc. for a couple of hours, it makes the ramp back up into full-on story mode much more effective.

@ivdamke: I'm not talking about things like business management. Those are the long form grindy side things they should only dabble with at most. (Hostess clubs would be a later series example.) I'm thinking more of the more straightforward quests like the dominatrix or Miracle Johnson. Those don't take up that much time and would often lead to some of the best moments in the series. They shouldn't avoid stuff like that. Things like bowling, even though it led to one of the funniest scenes in the whole game, I'm glad they didn't grind it out themselves.

Don't want to be a dick, but if Dan doesn't want to play, he shouldn't. I really want this series to continue but if Dan's not having fun playing (which he's clearly not) it's not gonna be fun to watch.

Given Dan's fondness for Metal Gear it's crazy to me that he dislikes playing this so much, but whatever.

And, I seem to remember you guys saying at the start of this that you were prepared for some rough gameplay, but were going to do the whole series. You wouldn't back out of that would you Dan???

You guys are the best, thanks for all the great videos!

Bittersweet end to the series, in my opinion the best content giant bomb produced this year; far better than their pubg content, but they missed so much stuffs... Really hope they would have spent some time grinding the business off screen and maybe spent more time with the combat(stop button mashing).

I really hope they do Kiwami next, thanks guys especially Alex for the great content.

The comments cycle

And then after the shitposts we get the Good Samaritan comment police who likes to state the obvious like "we're all entitled to our opinions" No shit, good guy. This is why villains are more interesting than the heroes.

And then there's the loser like me who points out the meta

Hearing Alex at the end still saying that there were many more Yakuza's to come gives me pause. I really loved watching 0 and I think seeing Kiwami would be cool just to see the beginnings of the series, but maybe that should be it? Doing the whole series seemed pretty ambitious from the jump, and with at least one member of the crew feeling lukewarm after just 1 entry scaling back the scope of the feature might make sense.

Dan played this game for like 80 hours or some shit and still doesn't know anything about the game, it's kind of amazing. Really tired of his incessant sighing and whining about this game, hope he sits out the next BITE. Must be tough playing games for a living. Throughout this entire video he was being the most passive-aggressive "obviously does not want to be there" guy.

Is anybody saying he can't have an opinion? There are two aspects to the situation. One is that some people don't like the complaints because this is a lets play for fun and don't enjoy the negativity.

The second part is that Dan doesn't engage with the combat (partly because he dislikes it) so it sounds like he's blaming the game for his own impatience and lack of interest. It's OK for him to not have the patience for it, but then should he be playing it for an entertainment series? As somebody who played this game along with them it's been hard to take him seriously when he mashes the buttons (especially triangle for heat) and does one combo; the same combo with every fighting style.

Yes, it's OK that he doesn't like it, but is him playing it the best thing for the audience and the site?

Edit: That doesn't mean people should be so rude, obviously.

Having different options is fine, and there are certainly legitimate criticisms that can be made of the combat, but it's hard to take it seriously when Dan didn't really engage with a lot of the combat system (I lost count of the number of Heat moves he just wrote off as "I'll never use it").

Dan's made it clear he likes the story and not the gameplay so I hope in the future Vinny or Alex is the one playing.

Also, no one wants future games to have his sighs and groans over every fight.

I'll just say that Dan's constant definition trolling gets on my nerves. Petticoat, for God's sake! Look it up, Dan. I'll give you a hint: Think undergarments. Also, I just realized what a double entendre the TV show title "Petticoat Junction" is.
