I hope that once they finish mega man 6 that they start on the Megaman X series for the SNES. That would be really fun to see! :)

I can beat MM3 and MM5 pretty easily. MM5 is a cakewalk compared to MM2 and MM3. I didn't really like MM6 though. I didn't think the bosses were as good as the previous games. The stage design is sorta neat though.

And I'm yelling at the screen at Dan about the baby human vs puppy survival debate. He really can't be the naive. Can he? Is this Dan "the character"?

He just tries to be ridiculous and entertaining in a way that some people should just relax about. He even asks when they're talking about the GOTY podcasts in here if people are really seriously upset during the podcast because for him I think it's always more of an act.

Vinny has his similar moments for sure. I think they work well together that way.

Alex said you couldn't tell which mimic man was the real one, but it is the one with the blurry teleport when it appears.

I've never played MM until 2016, and I really struggled. I video game-d the crap out of them. Good series.

For those confused about the story up until this point and still care, a rundown, because there's a bit more intricacy than there maybe should be for such a simple game:

After his first two defeats, Dr. Wily apparently came to his senses and somehow got Dr. Light (sometimes translated as Dr. Right due to the Japanese R/L thing before they settled with Light) to agree to continue working with him. They started work on a gigantic peacekeeping robot called Gamma, but the project required a bunch of rare "elements" that happened to exist in places where eight powerful robots randomly went crazy, so of course Mega Man has to defeat the robots and collect the elements.

Though we've seen him around plenty now in 2017, when this game came out, nobody knew anything about Proto Man, so it's a mystery when he shows up as a miniboss in some of the stages. Unusually for an NES game, he's not even hinted at in the manual!

After collecting all the elements, we finally meet "Break Man", as revealed by the boss select screen, and beat him up one more time without any explanation. Cue the "cutscene" where Light explains to Mega Man that Wily took off with all of the elements, as well as the unfinished Gamma. How crazy, it was his plan all along, who knew.

Mega Man reaches Wily and spins around in front of Gamma's face for a couple of frames until it blows up, the castle falls apart, they both get buried in rubble, and a MYSTERIOUS FIGURE swoops in and saves Mega Man, apparently also wondering if he's "too late" for Wily. Then, Light's brief exposition that it must have been Proto Man, now revealed to be Mega Man's older brother, a prototype that ran away on its own and just now decided to come back for reasons.

Proto Man is now nowhere to be seen. Wily's flying saucer wobbles off into the background. At this point Capcom actually wants players to still be on the fence about Proto Man. You have to fight him at several points in the game, he's always the one to attack first, but crucially there's that one moment where he just hangs out on screen for a few moments, then opens the way forward and takes off again, and he does rescue Mega Man at the end (but also wanted to rescue Wily...?)

They let this ambiguity brew all the way until Mega Man 5, and one of the reasons why I want people to know about it is because this context makes the plot in 5 actually mean something, and that's my second favorite game in the series after this one!

Can't wait. Best of luck with 4, Alex.

"Hey, just explain to your kids that when you're 20, this won't be important or matter to you at all."

oh god, please do not do this, I had parents that did this and it was the most frustrating and infuriating thing in my entire childhood. Yeah, kids care about stupid stuff. The things that seem important to children are often laughable as an adult. But it's still important to them. Even thought they're not adults, they're still people who care about their own problems.

I mean, that doesn't mean you have to let your kids walk all over you, stand up them if they're being unreasonable. But don't trivialize the things that are important to them or try to say it doesn't matter, or your children will think you're the world's biggest asshole. Show your kids some empathy.

@arzen353: yah I'm with ya. Things lose importance through the lens of time but it's only in retrospect where they lose their value. Every moment of your life has different points of significance attached to it. Beating Contra on a single life when you're 7 isn't as important as getting your masters when you're 25 but that doesn't mean it didn't shape your character and have an effect on your life overall when it was happening. You can't simply tell a child to stop caring about stuff and wait 20 years until the "important" things roll around.

I always tell my younger cousins in their teens (and I'm in my 30's for perspective) that hey, a lot of things that you're going through right now are not that serious, but they're serious to YOU so give them the attention you think they deserve because ultimately it's YOU that will be living through them, but just keep in the back of your mind this reminder that there is a whole life ahead of you and use your best judgement to filter the less important stuff from the more important stuff.

Dan, I hope you read this: About kids: its not been "bred out of us". It's just our anthropolical condition. Humans are culture based animals with no specific (natural) environment they belong to and thrive in (compared to all the other animals); our "second nature" is culture. Most other animals are pretty survivable shortly after beeing born. Humans have an extra-uteral period of 1 year before they even have basic survival functions (A baby learns to turn from stomach to back and vice versa after like 3-6 months).

I think it is worth noting in all these Dan vs an animal 1v1 things is the ability to use basic tools as weaponry [even in the most basic form as a stick] is part of core natural human survival skills, so I never really put much value in these man barefist vs some animal, as that really misses the point of why humans survived so well. A person coming prepared with a basic weapon that would give them an edge potentially against a wild animal [or at least make it a much more fair 1v1 fight, depending on the animal] is vital to our survival strategy. To throw that away as off limits is always a bit silly, as often is the case in these conversations.

I should clarify, I am not talking about the baby part just at some point the Dan vs a couger came up.

I hope Vinny doesn't discourage people from having kids. I have a 7 week baby now and after listening to the Dad-casts, and videos like this, I think Vinny's kids were either exceptionally tough or he really exaggerates for comedic effect. Its not as horrible as he makes it sound. I also have a 2 year old dog that I got at 6 weeks. While the baby is way tougher, the puppy did teach us a lot.
