Apparently Sony held a press conference last night?

Grab a cup of coffee, and catch up on the day's headlines with Giant Bomb guys that aren't in San Francisco.

Reason why colours aren't brought to the west is that most western males aren't as expressive with colours as their Japanese counterparts, as far as the Japanese believe. I bought a blue Vita when I was over there and the girl at the counter asked if I was aware it was blue, lol.

Patrick, you got it all backwards. MGS 2 & 4 are the good ones. 1 & 3 are the shitty ones. Common mistake.

Also- anyone upset about the new Robocop trailer should just remember Robocop 3, and realize that this will still probably be better than that so chill out.

@Papers Please: I'm liking what I'm hearing about the game's pitting of morality vs ethics and it's successful translation of totalitarianism to gameplay. I'll probably get around to it if not this year, then next year.

@The XBone Kid: There's a word for that kind of cringing for someone else's embarrassment, but it's on the tip of my tongue.

@Kojima: He's realizing an oppotunity for attention for saying things that used to go unsaid and unnoticed. Crazy like a foxhound.

@tri-Ace: Now they can pay their employees! Seriously, though: they made Resonance of Fate last. Also a nice looking graphics engine. That went completely untouched as theres no market for new gen 7 HD Japanese engines. So yeah.

Just because she is a fictional creation doesn't mean she can't have character traits that include expressing herself through how she dresses. Sure, a MAN drew her, wrote her, and created her but that doesn't diminish her character and self-expression through her actions. She may not think on her own but she can be appear as such through the illusion of fiction. By your logic no video game character has ever had any personality, drive, or emotion simply because they're not real.

Right, but when character traits seem to exist only to create fan service for the audience, it's a little hard to take seriously.

You can make a game is full of, say, nymphomaniac lesbian exhibitionists, but nobody's going to believe you when you tell them it's a riveting narrative about the horrors of war. (And yes, it's technically possible to make that work, but you know what I mean.)

If Kojima made a male sniper with no shirt and a speedo, no one would be making a big deal about it. What's wrong with a female soldier expressing her sexuality?

I can't believe I'm getting into this stupid conversation again.

This is not a "female solider expressing their sexuality" because she's not a real person. She's a video game character. She's not expressing anything. A man drew her like that.

I don't even have a huge problem with the character but the extreme misrepresentations of the opposing arguments on both sides of this stupid, stupid issue are so annoying.

That's being incredibly obtuse on your part though, because it is an established trope that female characters are created this way not because it is an interesting or important part of their character but rather for the consumptive, male gaze of the audience. It typically doesn't flesh these characters out or add some level of complexity, rather it reduces them to eye candy, purely acting as objectifying fan service.

And a lot of people are really, really tired of seeing these tropes played out again and again. And a lot of people find it very alienating.

You're all backwards, the good ones are everything from MGS 1-3.

And Revengeance but I doubt anyone's counting that.

I'm one of those lucky guys who likes MGS 1-4, as well as Revengance. It's all stupid, over-complicated nonsense with giant mooing monsters and nanobot vampires.

2>1>MGR>4>3 ;D (Although I dont consider any of them bad, even the portable ones are okay)

I think the problem Patrick and Alex are having in regards to MGS is taking any of it seriously. And a lot of other people have the same problem. If you approach MGS the same way you approach Yakuza you'll love it. The crazy moments are amplified because of how serious the tone can be a lot of the time.

Not all of us love the "Fuck it" approach of Saints Row the 3rd because after awhile cranking it to 11 kind of loses it's effect. I still enjoyed those games, but I prefer it when things are a little more grounded.

Also calling MGS2 trash just because you didnt like the story is kind of dumb. The game looked better than mostly everything out at the time, had a great soundtrack, and had stealth mechanics that were far beyond anything else that came out in 2001.

Did I just hear Patrick say that Gone Home's biggest twist is that it's not a video game?

Naw. That it's a video game without, really, a late game twist or revelation or last-minute gotcha! That it stays the course, tells its story, and doesn't try to be anything more than that is part of what makes it amazing.

@boozak: To be honest, I actually do really like MGS2 a lot, just not as much as 1 & 3. MGS4 is the only one I'm not a particular fan of. Well, that and Peace Walker. Rising on the other hand is goddamn awesome

It's unfortunate to keep hearing people with some amount of influence on the gaming community continue to say there are no Vita games, which is a giant inaccuracy. The Vita has a ton of great games, yes, a lot of them are PSN downloadable titles, but I have more Vita games available to me than I could realistically play at this point in addition to PC and console gaming.

Also @patrickklepek, I've used Gaikai a couple of times, the tech behind remote play in the PS4/Vita/VitaTV setup. EA/Origin was using it for demos for awhile before Sony bought Gaikai and it worked great, and I also had the opportunity to mess around with it running on a Samsung TV a few years ago playing Splinter Cell, and it worked great on the internet connection at the Embassy Suites we were at reaching back to the Gaikai server wherever it was. Given how well it ran in both of those situations, I expect using it for Remote Play between the PS4, which is going to be running it's own Gaikai mini-server, and the Vita or Vita TV, I expect the experience is going to be damned near flawless over a home wireless network running at least 802.11n

Loved the sports talk. I've always wanted to hear Patrick and Alex talk football, seeing as how they seem to be the only ones with a real interest in it.

And I watched the SCEJ conference live. The translators were the most hilarious fucking thing in the world to a very tired guy at 3AM.

"MGS2 and 4 are complete trash"

Patrick Klepek

Damn, Patrick. Do you really feel that way about those games or were you just being hyperbolic?

I really respect your opinions man, but sometimes it's hard to tell what feelings are heightened for effect or your actual opinion. When you write a long form article you're very detailed and it's easy to understand where you're coming from even if I disagree with you so I've come to understand that things are rarely just surface level with you. You seemingly appreciate things on a much deeper level than most others, or at least have the ability to articulate that appreciation better than others. So when it seems like during a good majority of live content you tend to say things that may not accurately reflect how you actually feel it just throws me for a complete loop. It always seems to be extremes, it's either the best thing or the absolute worth thing ever and that clashes completely with the kind of person you seem to be.

Keep up all the incredible content though. It would just be nice to see less (what seems like) hyperbole in general, especially from the people I really respect. It tends to be something that plagues this community. There is no middle ground with many people, or at least that's what they would have you believe.

How can anyone think 1 and 3 are shitty? MGS2 is one of my favorite games ever made but 1 and 3 are fantastic.
