The best thing about the Vita TV is Ethernet cable. So, even if your wifi is crap, and your walls are concrete, it should be capable of rock-solid Remote-Play.
...also, it wasn't just new colors, it was the Vita Slim "A.K.A. Vita-2000". WiFi only, LCD "No OLED", Standard Mini USB as opposed to proprietary plug, 20%thinner, 50%Lighter, etc...

The PSVita TV sounds tempting to me since I would get to finally play P4: Golden and on my TV instead of a tiny portable screen. Might need a few more compatible games I care about though.

While I agree with Patrick that MGS3 is the best in the series, calling 4 trash is a big overexaggeration. No game has moved me as much as the ending of 4 did.

People try too hard to be offended at things in already ridiculous games. MGS does produce very good female characters typically (Naomi, Meryl, etc.), so this whole thing is really dumb to even focus on.

If I see a legion of women become sensitive towards this — then it's different. Slightly. Right now, I see a bunch of dudes pretend to be upset for some reason. It's fantasy and not real, people. It doesn't endorse or promote anything different than girls that buy naked firefighter calendars — except those people are real. This is just a video game character who will probably be pretty damn awesome. It's more liberating for a woman to do whatever she wants with her body, exploitative or not, if you ask me. If we're talking about characterization here, maybe she likes being like that.

@pudge I agree, calling this kid who "leaked" this video as stupid or something is a bit ridiculous in my eyes. It is either a viral stunt, or just some guy who was trying to show the new console to people who were going to buy it. It wasn't that remarkable, nor was it anything different than what was shown at E3. I can't imagine much happening to him or his parents or whoever it may be that loaned it (if it's real).

Has anyone actually confirmed that PS Vita TV can actually play Vita games? The conference didn't directly mention it. It looks like it's a Remote Play box using Vita technology.

They do, but not for long. Maybe 3-4 minutes, and the talk isn't exactly optimistic about it. They just talk about how it was shown at PAX last year and how it hasn't come out yet and the infamous crashing bug. Not exactly sure on the time but it was probably around 35-45 minutes in.

Alex, I don't know if anyone has seen/read/or been told the plot of a metal gear game and said the words "That makes sense." I feel like I experienced mgs4 the right way, by watching a couple drunken Something Awful friends stagger through the game. Being shit faced in that final Ocelot fight is something to behold.

I've only played MGS4 so I really can't say much about the series, but I really enjoyed it. Isn't MGS2 the most beloved of the series?

At the time of release, MGS2 was a huge disappointment (at least at my school). I haven't played an MGS game since then and I'm honestly amazed whenever I hear someone say they enjoyed it. That game was a hot mess from beginning to end.

Just because she is a fictional creation doesn't mean she can't have character traits that include expressing herself through how she dresses. Sure, a MAN drew her, wrote her, and created her but that doesn't diminish her character and self-expression through her actions. She may not think on her own but she can be appear as such through the illusion of fiction. By your logic no video game character has ever had any personality, drive, or emotion simply because they're not real.

the walking/creeping around sim genre does nothing for me at all, and people get freaked out in these games because you’re “supposed” to. It’s a bad trend and just a clever social meta game in the strictest sense, some attention whore/internet celebrity posts “omg scariest thing ever!!!!!!” Then the reader is like " yeah if I get scared by this I’m cool like that guy".

The Vita TV is for me. I love some of the Vita games that are out, or coming, but hate portables. This box will let me play Persona 4 Golden and Wipeout 2048 on my big screen TV without the need to squint and hold the OLED an inch away from my eyeballs. Pre-ordered.

Did I just hear Patrick say that Gone Home's biggest twist is that it's not a video game?

1 and 3 are definitely the most loved, but my favorite goes between 2 and 3. 2 has just really solid gameplay imo, it is still nuanced while still being arcade-y, 3 onward added a lot of systems that were cool but sometimes too much.

@newmarcom: It remote plays PS4 games, but it does indeed play Vita games both digital and physical.

It's become a huge pet peeve of mine when a character's outfit betrays their personality. When I see shy, demure characters wearing stripper clothing, then we've got a problem on our hands; I see that far too often coming out of games nowadays. It's okay to dress characters provocatively, but it has to make sense for the character to want to wear such things. It's all about not betraying the atmosphere of a game.

We really can't judge "Quiet's" character too much until we see her in context, but it's completely understandable that people have a hard time believing that it will be justified. Her outfit is pretty darn out there, even for MGS.

Once I noticed that Clockwork Orange thing behind Alex, I now can't unnotice it. And it's freaking me out.

I don't know why Patrick doesn't appreciate MGS4's fevered conspiracy meltdown better, considering his two favorite TV shows were based around the exact same thing.

And MGS accomplished it better, in the end!

Say what you will about the relative twistiness or bumpiness of the road, but MGS4 ends up at a place where everything makes sense to its world, everything had significance, and its characters have all reached a natural conclusion for their stories. Even if it has to be cuh-razy to get there, it gets there honestly.

I mean, when Kojima wants you to understand the fatalistic determination and apocalyptic future-anxiety that Metal Gear is all about, he does it with a supercomputer microwave hallway that is both real to the world of the game and metaphorically significant. (Not a magic astral space-church out of nowhere. For example.)

So I guess what I'm saying is maybe Patrick should give it another look one day with an open mind to what it is unto itself. I mean, it accomplishes what it sets out to do-- in its own insane, hysterical way. Isn't that what a creative work is all about? We should be begging for more Kojimas in today's stagnating, risk-averse big-budget creative climate.

(Also (as a perfect example): that Robocop remake looks as pointless and bland as the Totall Recall remake, no one will even remember it a year from now, and it can fuck right off.)

It always makes me a little sad when I hear people talk about how much they love the Walking Dead show, and talk about it like it's the best show ever. Those people, in most cases, haven't played the game, or read the comic, and I just feel like they really don't know what they're missing!
