Bombin' the A.M. With Scoops and the Wolf: 09/20/2013

It's the end of GTA week. Nobody's had ANY opinions about that game.

Grab a cup of coffee, and catch up on the day's headlines with Giant Bomb guys that aren't in San Francisco.

Another great bit S & TW.

Anyways, Rayman Legends.

I wish people would stop saying "I can't see how this would be good without the touch pad" and actually play it for a while to see for themselves. I've played both versions and I prefer the "B" button version.

I know it sounds too simple, like it's a cop-out, but it's not. It weaves the B button into your platforming sequences so perfectly that it eventually just falls in line other button presses. If this was never announced for touch based devices I think reviewers might actually be raving about the interesting addition of a "context sensitive" button.

At the very least, I think it keeps a better pace than the touch screen version and adds a touch of difficulty that is way more rewarding than timing your actions to an AI controlled character.

About GTA going to another country: whenever people say this, I can't help but think that if GTA satirized any country other than America as bluntly and with as many cheap shots as they generally apply to the richest/most powerful country on Earth, it would probably end up being legitimately offensive, as opposed to funny offensive.

Imagine a GTA game set in Japan, and how gorgeous their fake Tokyo would look! And then quake with terror as you imagine what 90% of the jokes in that game would probably be.

I've heard this story before, but I don't agree yet, having just played the 360 version. I think it's really really hard! My thumb is already busy with the jumping and the hitting. You usually don't have B button hitting and then you walk straight forward. When I play with my friends it's even worse, because everyone can hit that B button. I can't see how touch screen could be worse than this.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose but these are my two favourite parts of the B-Button version.

I will say (though I've never tried them) the touch based daily and weekly challenges seem like they'd be pretty cool.

The Outlast/Amnesia talk reminded me of this video. Outlast is much more about stuff jumping out at you whereas Machine For Pigs wants to tell a coherent story. Amnesia's horror is more in the story itself. Outlast gets kind of weird and doesn't make a lot of sense. Though for the record I think both horror sensibilities are interesting and really liked Insidious 1.

Whoa, my friend posted that on Facebook recently in discussion of modern horror movies which then turned to the likes of Outlast and Amnesia.

I know Alex enjoys doing the sound effects for the videos but it really leaves audio listeners confused when there's a strange pause of silence and then laughter.

Feedback, huh? Well, I feel this show needs more stupid. More stupid visual effects, more stupid audio effects, just more of anything that's dumb. Your conversations are already some of the smartest content on Giant Bomb, you need to balance it out with some more stupid. Having Jeff on is a good first step. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

I definitely agree about GTA, the franchise needs to take itself to a different country for its next installment. For goodness sake, there are other cities besides New York and Los Angeles. I even live around LA, but I have little desire to explore a place I've already explored in real life.

Even the Driver franchise has already done this over a decade ago. Driver 2 actually went through four different locations, two of which were foreign if I recall. It would really freshen things up of they took GTA out of the comfort zone.

I like the idea of a GTA in a future city. I am not sure how well the satire would play if GTA was in a non America city.

I'd like to see GTA6 be a period-piece set in the 50's/60's and with real celebrities/politicians/contemporary events. Essentially blend it with LA Noire a little, I guess.

Brad getting some serious ribbing, it's wonderful.

@patrickklepek as someone that simply never got the handling of cars in GTA IV even after completing the main game, Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony - it took me a pretty long time to get used to how the cars drive in GTA V, but I do think it is a superior physics model and once I got it they all felt pretty good.

You just have to realize that the handbrake is largely useless and shouldn't be used when going fast. Use the regular breaks to slow down and only then pop the handbrake sparingly on lighter corners.

I own the game on the PC and on the Vita and I completely agree. The non-touch version is much better. I don't really love any of the murphey levels on either version, but the touch ones are just too easy and completely uninteresting to play. Also the AI is really bad at platforming at times.
