Having Jeff on these is great because of the amount of insight he can give. Who else would instantly recognise some terrible obscure BMX game from over a decade ago?

They need to pump these out on a more regular basis and Jeff should become a permanent part of this series.

This feature continues to be awesome. It was great having Jeff there with his crazy extensive knowledge of older games and their context in history.

I'm looking forward to when they play a demo disc I actually had.

I remember renting Gravity Games Bike: Street. Vert. Dirt. specifically because of the soundtrack on the back of the box. It wasn't very good.

Speaking of flying games, I came across Snoopy Flying Ace on my Xbox 360 today. I haven't played it yet, but heard it was good because the developer also created Crimson Skies I think?

I think Jeff's late 90s/early 00s "gggungg gggungg gggungg" guitar sound is hilarious... Seeing the end of this video gave me a flashback to when I met Sevendust at The Rave in Milwaukee in 1998. I had friend who was a friend of the band and he followed them everywhere. Nice guys and their music was fine for the time.

The Mark of Kri was excellent. Loved the combat, and the story was pretty decent and cinematic for the time.

Its sequel was called Rise of the Kasai. It played pretty much identically, but switched between the main character and his sister (and maybe someone else). It didn't grab me like the first did, and I never did finish it.

I definitely had the song from Aggressive Inline on a mix-cd that I picked up at like...Media Play or something.

On an unrelated note, I also seem to have become ancient.

Man, I've missed the Demo Derbies. I'm glad Jeff was also sitting in. That's some great stuff there. Also, Mr. Mosquito is one of my favorite weird PS2 games, and it gets really hard!

Regarding Skygunner, it was a good game at it's core. Drew shouldn't have picked advanced controls as it's not a traditional flight game.

In any case what let the game down was not a matter of the design, instead it was absolutely crippling framerate issues. It would routinely drop down to a lower resolution, and even then it could still go into single digit framerates. I couldn't believe that they deemed the game acceptable in the state it released in.

Echoing what other people have said, but having Jeff on these is really incredible. I know he's been overseeing reviews forever, but these are mediocre PS2 games from over a decade ago and he remembers a ton, it's great insight.

That in sync "yeah" by Jeff and Drew at the end was eerie in a way. Mister Mosquito was one of the "Games for Cheap Bastards" on "G4TV's X-Play", if I recall correctly--seems all right.

In regards to the discussion during the Star Wars Jedi Starfighter segment, I kinda miss arcade-ish flight games as well. It's a difficult task to make a great one of those, because dog-fighting combat often just boils down to circling each other or locking on with missiles. There really needs to something peripheral to make a great game, like the engaging, branching story of Wing Commander or fights against large ships with individual points to attack like in the X-wing series or Freespace.

Ace Team certainly tried with Assault Horizon, adding that follow mode thing which fans of the series unfortunately ended up hating.

I hope a new, really great game of that type will come along eventually...

Also at 44:35 when @jeff says "What the fuck happened to framerate?". That is exactly the thing that should be focus for graphical fidelity. I don't care if your game runs at 900p, 720p or 480i... Just make the framerate happen. I know making video games is hard, but if you have to sacrifice polycount or shaders or whatever, please do so. Magazines are over, so there's no reason to make games that only look good in still-pics.

Man, they skipped like half the content on the disc. Way to go back on the rules of this feature. Still, having Jeff on this was great, as he was playing/seeing everything from that era and probably has stories for just about everything. I would love to see him on more.

He has to be. He's heard of these games, played a bunch of them, and gives the best historical context. Not to mention that I fully expect him to appear in one of those industry party videos sooner or later.

Drew and Dan developed into a good duo when this started, but Jeff takes it to something other than dumb fun. And it's basically like ten Encyclopaedia Bombasticas in one!

I veto for just having a guest period, Danny would be great also Alex or Jeff. They'd all be fun in these.
