The main thing I took from this is the second person in this isn't always there.  What I'm extrapolating from that is this:
    >That other guy may not even exist!

After Ellie (sp?) is lost in the crash in the trailer, Issac has probably lost the bit of sanity he gained after DS2.  Through this lack of sanity, he invented this other person -- the one controlled by Player 2 -- to aid him in battle, whether it be with the necromorphs (in terms of combat) or with himself (e.g. witty banter, someone to relate to, etc.)

The human enemies may be there to bring Issac back to a medical facility for rehabilitation.  They may also be there to stop the necromorph crisis, as well, only they now have to deal with Issac, who at the point is probably known as a highly dangerous crazy person.

I like that you don't have an AI partner around in singleplayer. It will be kind of weird if the second guy just randomly appears out of thin air when a second player joins in, but I'll still take that over Resident Evil's co-op system any day.

He ignored Brad's question and and went into his BS co-op game mode script. Brad circled back around but only got some pretty weak answers out of the guy on the weapons and ammo. Thanks Brad for trying to squeeze some info out of the interview.

I like how he tries to justify the multiplayer decisions with narrative reasons. "Competetive multiplayer totally made sense in DS2 because there were a bunch of engineers in space" I think Brad could have pushed harder on the broop coverbased shooter thing. And no handshake - hehe.

I appreciate how GIANT BOMB interviews developers at E3 without totally kissing everybody's ass. I cant stand coverage from other sites for that reason.

Yep. The only time I ever go to gamespot is for their E3 live stage show so I can see the demos of the show but even that is kind of unbearable. I don't need the interviewer to constantly be drooling over the game or pander to the dev about how flooded they are with questions from the audience. They do this in every god damn interview. I don't mean to kick a dead horse here with gamespot but watching their live stage show this year reminded me of the things I hate about them.

Giant Bomb on the other hand has mastered the art of asking meaningful questions in a respectful way to the developers. They don't drill them but they don't play softball either. If whoever is conducting the interview is passionate about said game, they'll let that be known by dropping some knowledge but it never wanders into kiss ass'ing. For example, as much as Brad idolizes John Carmack, he stays professional during the actual interview.

This guy barely budged from his PR lines. Also I really liked the music played during this interview.

I am very relieved to know that the co-op mode is only optional, which means that you can still play the game as Isaac in the single-player story.

At the same time, the guy Brad interviewed seemed defensive, as if he couldn't give clear answers on some of the questions, but other than that, he seems like a nice guy.

Overall, that was a great interview.

His response to the plasma cutter question makes me think you might be straight up building and/or modifying weapons, which sounds pretty awesome. Cannot wait for DS3.

Pretty sure what he meant with the "If that's what you want we have that for you" comment was that rotation will be an option on some sort of upgrade tree or an optional modification.

The guy's spiel on Dead Space 2's multiplayer and the "suitability" of it in 3 was such a cop out. You can so tell he's going off by a written line. I guess "Our 2nd game's multiplayer sucked" doesn't play as well though...

I kind of miss the simplicity of the first game the most. Some random spaceship technician being stuck on a broken down freighter, defending himself with tools which he often uses in his day job. It's so cool to think that in the future we just wear PCs like armor. The engineering RIG in particular looks like it is lined with a bunch of hard drives, ram chips, and processors. It makes Issac seem like some future computer technician, driving around in his space van and doing troubleshooting and repair on commissioned space ships. It looks way better than the military RIGs which just look like typical space armor. Dead Space has been one of my favorite franchises of this hardware generation. I hope it stays as good.

I think universal ammunition would eliminate inventory management which is one of the things that made the first two Dead Space special.

This was a good interview, and it definitely gave me some new information and a question I was hoping would be answered: no AI followers. I'm back in, Visceral Games. Lets do this.

can someone tell what the hell that dude is from the E3 Mysteries splash page is?

I had the answer, but then you used 'is' twice in a sentence incorrectly, so now you'll just have to keep wondering what that hell he is.

Is.

REFERENCES PLEASE. If you claim this mans grammar is incorrect, the burden is on you to demonstrate as such. Please demonstrate which linguistic rules are in violation.

No references = personal opinion

I would advice you to use generative grammar as your theory of grammar, as it has the most acceptance in the international community. I will not accept references to purported style manuals (eg Strunk or Sullivan), as they deviate from scientific linguistic theory and methodology, and as such have insufficient technical accuracy.

Thank you, and good day Pedant.

But it was never a fun aspect to be honest. The fact that inventory management takes up such a big part within the gameplay experience was actually always a turn off for me with DS. So if they can reduce this un-fun game mechanic to something less intrusive to the general gameplay experience I'm fine with it.

I love the Dead Space games for their awesome blend of tense action and great atmosphere so I was a bit worried that the tension would be lost when they announced co-op for the game. But it's a huge relief to hear that there won't be a constant AI companion while playing single player. For me I think I'll play through it single player first then give the co-op a go on a second play-through.

I like that the gameplay changes have been dictated by the fiction.

Also, I totally thought that dude was wearing a Dale Earnhardt shirt until I remembered what game this was.

Yeah the new armour designs look rediculous. Granted at the outset of the original game you looked like your armour was just garbage held together by duct tape. But that made it all the more gratifying when you upgraded it to something that looked half-way respectable. I also liked your limited mobility in the first game, where you struggled to move and run, it made you vunerable which is something lacking in todays 'horror' games.

My biggest gripe with the game though is reticles, the projected light based hud in Dead Space 1 and to a lesser degree 2 were great and added a lot to the atmosphere, removing them in favour of Halo-esque aiming just seems idiotic to me.

Oh well, i'm sure it'll be a good game and i'm glad they're aware of how frustrating dumb AI partners can be but this looks more like Gears of War than Dead Space, from what they've shown at least.

Sounds like the weapons are going to be quite customizable to me judging by the way he answered the rotation of the plasma cutter question. That could be pretty cool.

@Rxanadu: I really hope you're wrong, but that sounds totally right. Given that we do not know about the story at this point it seems up in the air, but that all sounds totally plausible.

I had only seen the E3 Demo and finally watched this interview now and I'm relieved. I was worried that they were screwing up everything I loved about the series but it sounds like they know what they're doing. The fact that fiction dictates a lot of the gameplay seems brilliant.
