Looks like they're moving away from strategic dismemberment and moving more towards traditional weapons. Like Brad, I hope they dont loose all the tension and atmosphere and end up making a Gears clone.

Can't wait to play me some more Dead Space! One of the coolest scifi universes around, and it seems like they will be fleshing out that universe even more, which interests me greatly!

Dodging those questions, erryday.

I like that Brad tried to ask the weapon combo/ammo question twice, even if he didn't get much of an answer. My guess is that it's going to be some sort of mix and match system, with horizontal and vertical plasma cutters as separate options.

He ignored Brad's question and and went into his BS co-op game mode script. Brad circled back around but only got some pretty weak answers out of the guy on the weapons and ammo. Thanks Brad for trying to squeeze some info out of the interview.

Agreed. I bet you'll be able to mix and match features from the different guns or just use the vanilla if you like it that way. You might want regular old plasma cutter, with regular and alt fire, or maybe switch out the vertical alt-fire for the force gun's regular shot, or the pulse rifle's alt-fire. You might make a combination weapon that can handle both close and long range, like a flamethrower mixed with a seeker. It seems like one of those annoying "oh we can't tell them about the guns yet, that has to wait for PAX!" marketing things. Just tell the people the information they need and you'll save yourself a bunch of drama.

I'm interested in how they scale the difficulty for co-op. Double the enemies on the screen, double their health? Maybe a bit of both? Spawn in elite mobs more often?

The ammo thing I'm happy for. I don't want to micromanage my inventory or have situations where I'm loaded up with shitty flame fuel but I don't have any Fucker Bullets for the Fucker Gun. Limit my ammo but don't give me situations where I can't pick up ammo for the gun I'm using because I'm full of contact energy.

Really great interview, enjoyed this one a lot. I agree with what other people have already said- it seems that based on his answer to Brad's question about weapons is that players will be able to craft or customize their arsenal just as Isaac might do.

I think this producer said it best when he told Brad that having a co-op buddy chattering in your ear breaks the tension and feelings of horror in the game. Glad to see one of the makers of the game agrees with what I thought when they introduced co-op! I LOVE this series and it's unsettling to see them add elements that, to the best of my imagination, can't believe fans were pining for. I understand the desire to broaden the scope and mechanics of a series but I fear they're moving further away from what made Dead Space great in the first place.

I think the implication is that there will be a crafting mechanic in Dead Space 3, which actually sounds like a good step forward. Why not strap the the Plasma Cutter to an Assault Rifle? You may sacrifice the ability to rotate the laser, but you don't have to switch weapons to change firing style.

The universal ammo idea is still kind of worrying. I enjoy how supply scarcity plays in to those games.

When the guy said "if you want it, you can have it" in query to Brad's question about the Plama Cutter, I think what the guy was saying although somewhat subtle, is that you'll be able to take apart the weapons and customize them as you'd like, meaning you may have to sacrifice one thing for another, but still ending with your definitive choice; kind of like setting the gun up with different attachments. I understand everything they're doing with this game, and it's sounding very good; very excited for the game. Also, I have no idea why people are saying the rep is doing a bad job. Seems to me like he's doing it perfectly fine.

Well, I do agree with some of you that DS is heading into a more actien-oriented direction and leaning less so on the horror side. A bit in the vein of the later Resident Evil games. Which I find regrettable indeed. But other than that, Dave Woldman did a fine job in answering most of the questions. Sure, he executed some evasive maneuvers, since he can't give away too much. I totally understand. And Brad was well aware of that too.

After this interview it actually sounds like the changes they've made aren't as terrible as they first sounded. Jump in/out co-op sounds like it will only interfere in the game if you want it to, like in a second playthrough.

And the combined weapons make sense since Issac would create his own, better weapons after fighting for so long.

Also, he said the plasma cutter would rotate if you wanted it too, which sounds like you'll have to make a decision at some point, perhaps a trade-off instead of some other ability.

I appreciate how GIANT BOMB interviews developers at E3 without totally kissing everybody's ass. I cant stand coverage from other sites for that reason.
