I remember renting this game as a kid and not hating it.

I loved this game as a kid. I wasn't a Michael Jordan fan and I kind of remember the controls being pretty junky, but there was something about it.

So someone designed a SNES plat-former and then some guy in a suit said we have to attach Michael Jordan to our next game for it to make any money!

Loved this game as a kid, I remember my brother and I renting this as kids and playing through till completion. Once we transcribed the password wrong after beating about 1/3 of the game and had to start all over.

Good times. Up there with Cool Spot as one of those games that shouldn't be good but are.

I don't know what Patrick was talking about, this game looks amazing, I would have been blown away as a kid!

wow, for some reason this sounds like a megadrive game. Nice to see some new encyclopedia entries though.

Haven't played this game, but I remember it getting positive reviews from video game magazines back in the day. And from what I see, it looks like a decent platformer, especially when compared to most celebrity based video games.

Whoo! Chaos in the Windy City. Reading the FAQ to this game just makes me embarrassed for way younger me, who didn't seem to know what any of the power-ups or bosses were called. So much for research, champ.

But yeah, this is actually better than it looks. Lots of exploration, hidden stuff, backtracking, a power-up system that wasn't broken, a little bit of non-linearity (in that Mega Man sense of choosing a route through a lot of compulsory levels) and all those really goofy enemies that would find a second life in Shut Up & Jam Gaiden. Reminded me a bit of Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt, which was also brutally tough. Could've been a lot worse. Could've been Shaq Fu.

I had no idea this existed.

That's crazy. You gotta do Shut up and Jam! before you do Gaiden. Also Ninja Gaiden for the NES.

The game is absurd (in a good way) and seems to have some platforming issues but the concept is pretty interesting and I like all the backtracking and 'secret' stuff there seems to be. I remember playing this as a kid (not well enough to remember any detail on it) and glad to see it immortalized on the site now.

Oh yeah, and I'm from Utah and I was a big Jazz fan at that same time. Seeing the Jazz barely lose to the Bulls in '98 was so frustrating...Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jeff Hornacek...those were the days.

And I don't even like watching sports. The whole cultural thing really was a big deal. Also I was like ten at the time so...yeah.

I grew up in Plainfield Il. Watched Jordan play as Patrick did. Love Space Jam.

This game actually seems kind of awesome. Hilarious how Wheaties and eyeball monsters can be in the same sentence and actually can mean something: "Oh you mean Chaos in the Windy City."

Never actually saw the game that Barkley Gaiden got all those sprites from, neat.

I thought the Encyclopedia was about dropping the knowledge on good old games. I don't even know anymore.

I'm pretty sure the original expressed intent was to "quicklook every game in the Giant Bomb database", a.k.a, PROJECT QUICKLOOK EVERYTHING. But, sure, Jeff's Bombastica's have gone a bit deeper into the history of the games and platforms they were on. I do think Patrick did a decent job of contextualizing the game in the time period it was released, but I wouldn't have been opposed to a bit more information about the actual game too.
