"This tech's barely worth it! I feel like I'm wasting this MP for no good reason."

*Continues to use Lightning2 for one target*

Casting Bufu was a classic, but this Volt Bite type of nonsense has been going on like the entire ER. I have not yet forgotten "The Forest".

man all those lightning2, I was like BUT ALL THAT MP! Whatever they can play however they like, I just don't think they will ever win the fight against the final boss, I haven't finished the game but I can see it might get really really hard.

What I love about these Endurance Run's the most is listening in on their reactions upon finding things out, such as their destination of like this episodes, "Volt Bite".

People act like single player RPGs are competitive multiplayer. Why are you trying to perfect it? just do enough to advance the story and stop being OCD. The comments are worse than the non-perfect playing.

Yes this comment is late.

It's a testament to Chrono Trigger's generosity to the player and low difficulty that Ryan and Patrick ever made it through this game.

I'm laughing right along with this playthrough, because I'm sort of just astounded and amazed that they never thought "Oh, a single target, I can just use Lightning 1". And yeah, the part where they misjudge ability damage all the time, because they don't realize when an enemy's defense is lowered/not lowered, or he has immunity to that damage, or whatever. Even though the game notifies you in text when enemies damage resistance changes.

It is astonishing how long it took them to deduce some things.

I have often failed to pick up on the damage/defense notification stuff as well. It sometimes flashes up there so briefly due to all the menus popping up and whatnot, and I'm busy keeping track of my characters health and what damage attacks are doing to me and the boss and who's turn is up and picking the next move and all that. It can be tough to notice until you've got a fight pretty much secured.

I just beat this boss this morning and haven't watched this video yet, but from the sound of things I handled it pretty much the way they did.

You'd think Patrick would have been able to notice some of that stuff since he's not actually playing, but after seeing his reaction to the text cues during the Magus fight I wonder if it's not for the better that he doesn't since he'd just over think everything. :P

Also I like that there's someone who's been poking around these things recently who I can yap at.

Heh. Volt bite man... Volt bite...

I found not trying volt bite pretty hilarious.

And then when they do it by accident and it works out... even more hilarious.

@pyromagnestir: Haha, yeah, Volt Bite discovery was great. I never used Ayla in this fight, but I used Frog and Crono, and their Spire/Lightning Rod ability uses Crono's lightning magic in a similar fashion.

Anyway, techs in this game generally do more damage proportional to how much more MP they cost, so if some new expensive ability seems to do little damage, I would've hoped they would figure out that there was some particular reason in that fight hindering that tech. I get that Ryan is super stressed by the active battle system, but I have no idea how Patrick missed so many things that came up on screen. :P

And yeah, I almost wasn't going to comment on any of these, but at a certain point I said screw it, and just started commenting on them as freely as if there was still any active discussion on these videos. Genuinely surprised you've happened to join in so shortly after I've watched these eps. I kinda binge watched them, so I only have the last ep left.

@bisonhero:

I decided it was time I finally played this game, and I'm watching as I go along or even listening to the endurance run as I play, depending on what's happening. Turns out this game is pretty great!

It's strange, but great to be able to have some "new" videos with Ryan, though I did see the first 6 episodes as they went up, that's as far as I'd made it into the game before they started this feature, and saw the last episode as it was live.

It's also fun checking the comments to see how frustrated people got with his play. Somehow they seem even more frustrated than they were with Brad during the DP ER.

I know I've been using a lot more of the dual and triple tech's than it seems they are, by the end of that fight against Nizbel II I was dropping almost 1500 damage per volt strike, or something. So seeing them ignore it just tickled me.

They have also kept up the ER tradition of great luck during boss fights. I feel like they should be getting wrecked every so often, but nope!

@pyromagnestir: Yeah, the number of boss fights they blunder through without figuring out the trick is kind of a lot of them. Some of them they do legitimately figure out, though.

For me, I started playing Chrono Trigger on the DS (for the first time ever) around the time the Endurance Run started, but then didn't have time to keep playing it, and I'd much rather I have my own first impression of the game before watching the ER, so I actually wanted to wait until at least a few months after I finished the game before starting the ER.

But then I never got around to watching the ER for a couple years, despite finishing Chrono Trigger well over a year ago. I've really been meaning to for the past few months, because yeah, it's really the only major piece of video content with Ryan that I've never watched before. :(

Warning tip for your playthrough: just use a FAQ to look up how those black chests work, because there is a trick to them that is really not obvious. It's not the end of the world if you open them "wrong", but it's a pretty sweet deal when you access them the better way. You'll get a plot item in a little bit that the game makes kinda clear is able to open special locked doors (and the black chests), and the black chests in particular operate in a really strange way.

Also, don't be like Patrick and Ryan. The Silver Earring and Gold Earring are not particularly good items. You're better off boosting like, just about any other stat. More HP is nothing special.

@bisonhero:

Oops, missed the hidden thing with the chests already. Kinda wasn't sure what I was supposed to do right when getting my ship and wandered around various eras trying to figure it out. I thought talking to Melchior seemed like a good bet and when I was wrong, I remembered the chests. Then I went back to 600 and noticed the desert was there all of a sudden, and after figuring out it was a bit too high level for me I went and found more chests.

Didn't notice the little hidden entrance up in the corner of the dark ages which was where I really needed to go. Too bad, sounds like I missed out on some nice gear.

And I was actually using the hp boost thing on my main character and robo for a bit, but then I saw them pick up the gold stud or whatever that reduces mp cost by 75 percent and said hell yeah I have to go grab that! Now they're wearing silver and gold whatever's respectively, and Frog's got a speed boosting thing.

But I kinda think I want to switch Frog out of my party though, to mix things up from the ER. The only reason I chose them is they were the first group to get a triple attack.

@pyromagnestir: Marle and Ayla are good people to try (who sadly go neglected like the whole Endurance Run). I've never been crazy about Lucca; if I were going to take a low physical damage, how Magic stat character, Marle is faster than Lucca and has healing magic.
