Funny how Patrick now starts every other episode with a useful little tip like "hey, let's get back to our flying time ship" or "hey, let's switch in other party members to max out their TP" :D

And it's aweseome how Ryan misses the secret room with Bagus' best equipment by one grid square, twice. Not mentioning that they can read bosses talking about "invincible" items and don't even seem to remember or ask themselves where those are or how they might obtain them five minutes later.

Jesus fuck, I can't believe I'm saying this: Did the conclusion to that sidequest feel kind of hollow? Why not try some timetravelling in your JRPG about timetravel? Say, to a monster town in the Present set in approximately the same spot that used to worship Magus?

Interestingly enough, the Japanese names of Ozzie, Flea and Slash are Vinegar, Mayonne and Soisō. I suppose one can notice a trend :D

The thing about a lot of these sidequests is that you'll get more out of them if you have the right characters in your party.

In this instance, there's more interactions between Bagus and his former henchmen here if you have him in your party.

Also, I really don't understand why they insist on trying to use Bobo as the healer when Brog is so much better at it. Instead of attacking with Brono and Brog, they should be attacking with Brono and Bobo with Brog on healing duty.

Really happy they decided to do these sidequests, though I won't mind them dropping that mission in the future.

@Supercancer: I believe there is, yes, and it is how you get the "super secret ending" by killing Lavos the first time you go to the end of time (like Ryan and Patrick did, but with all your gear from the end of the game).

@Bourbon_Warrior: Even though their go to team of Brog, Brono, and Bobo has the best damage output in the game. Not counting Ayla if you get her to level 99. That is a rare exception. This party is not at all better. Its not bad, I cannot think of any builds that are truly bad. But still, their original was powerful as hell. Not that im complaining about Patrick and Ryan, im complaining about the people who were begging for a new party.

I hope these guys read this:

  • Switch back to Wait mode.
  • Consider using Byla. She can steal good items from enemies, and she could've stolen the Slasher 2, Ozzie Pants, and Flea Vest from the bosses. Also, Byla is the strongest physical fighter in the game.
  • Use Cure Wave already. If not, then swap out Bobo for Marle. Cure Beam isn't enough at this stage of the game.
  • If you're going to do all of the sidequests, then get prepared. If you think the sand skeleton is tough, then don't do the other sidequests since those bosses are even harder.
  • Switch to Wait mode. Yes, I said it twice.

Come on man, they are not Vinny and Jeff, they are not reading any of the comments.

"Hey, let's check out that Confuse tech."

They are definitely reading the comments.

I dunno... If they were really reading the comments, they would be using cure wave by now. :P

..... Unless they are highly selective on what they read...

That actually wouldn't be too surprising, given the content of most of the comments. But lets also not forget the following fact:

@gosukiller said:

2) forget already learnt lessons within two sittings.

So if they do read the comments- they will forget such lessons within 1-2 videos anyway.

It's a lose-lose situation for those enraged by Ryan's abysmal skill level. >_>

They are clearly reading comments. Patrick even said 'Cure Wave' and then corrected and said Cure Beam. Not one mention of it before and now after comments were spammed with it...

Lol, I wonder what it's like to live in your world.

They clearly know they have the skill, as they have talked about it before... MULTIPLE TIMES. To those selective commenters.

I'd say they're good to steamroll the rest of these quests. The extra levels they got here should help secure their win against Skeletor, along with the discovery of "Confuse".

The sun orb quest might give them hell though, it certainly did for me. People forget how hard these can be for your first run through.

I honestly wish some of you guys would leave Patrick & Ryan alone. Just because some of you played the game several times doesn't mean you need to give other people shit for mistakes they are doing. Sure, they could have done things differently but they have their play style and everyone else has their own.

It's probably because I never played Chrono Trigger, but watching them sort of plod through all this doesn't bother me that much. It's about as well as a kid me would have done when this came out.

When they occasionally don't read/notice fairly important things it bugs me but aside from that they're fine.

If it really bothers you that much that they're "not playing right" you probably shouldn't watch. Seriously. It likely won't get much better.

Yeah, there isn't anything terribly offensive here for a first run through without an FAQ (presumably). I've beaten plenty of RPG's in my day, but when I played CT on the DS a while back, I didn't instantly know which duel tech to use, how to do all the side quests, etc. There's some silly mistakes here and there, such as leaving the time ship or whatever, but come now... it's nothing catastrophic.

Agreed. I think this would apply to everyone if their play-throughs of video games were broadcasted to thousands of people. As good as we think we all are, there are always people that think they're better. I would like to think I'm pretty competent, but there are times when I totally overlook the obvious -- either because I wasn't paying attention or I just didn't care.

They're doing fine for the most part. It's their first run without any guides to show them all the secrets. I don't even think Ryan is that proficient with JRPGs, because Giant Bomb hardly discusses them. I think the only JRPG they've spent any time discussing or reviewing was FFXIII. Not that there have been a ton released this generation, but even back in the Gamespot days, Jeff and Ryan (or Brad) never reviewed the RPGs.

I'm not gonna nerd-rage/cry about their playing of the game.

But, seriously, 5 times Ryan has passed over Cure Wave and said the name of the tech and in fact was over it for a second. I think he's just doing this to piss all of you off.

That's why Ryan is conditionally awesome.

I'd say Vinny and Dave deserve a mention. Dave for him being the "hardcore PC gamer", which PC games are typically harder than console games. And Vinny, for being a psuedo-PC gamer, and being known for being the only Bomber who didn't give up on either of the Souls games.

Not that this makes them better gamers than Jeff or anything, but they definitely seem to play harder games than the others.

This ER was good. The last one was bad bad bad, but this was good. Ryan's meatheadedness was amusing because it generally wasn't game-ending, but the best part was learning how bad Patrick is at math. He hit Flea four times for 280 each! If you do that with Confuse you'll do about a thousand damage...no wait, eight hundred!!!

So this is the first time I ever felt the need to post on giant bomb and I got to say, watching you guys play is hilarious. I dont mean that in a mocking way or anything its your first time and so if ya dont get the secrets or the best weapons thats cool. No one ever does on the first try but the banter is what i think is hilarious. Im probably going to find this game and play it this weekend. Thanks for some good entertainment.

I, for one, am quite happy they switched back to their A-Team after they wiped. This is obviously the party they plan to beat Lavos with, and they're gonna need all the EXP they can get. Benched characters earn 75% EXP and can only level up once per battle -- all excess EXP is lost. That's why Barle and Bucca were 4-5 levels behind. You don't want that to happen to your main party.

What's that, you say? But the other characters won't learn any new techs then? Well, who gives a shit if they don't wanna use them anyway? Is the game gonna award you with the best equipment in the game if you max out everyone's tech tree? No. Is it gonna screw you over by forcibly putting you in control of neglected party members? No. Are there any achievements involved? No. There is absolutely no incentive to level up characters you don't like unless you plan on using them on a New Game+ (i.e., if you wanna beat Lavos as soon as Barle joins you, leveling her up and maxing out her tech tree might be a good idea).

So please, just drop it. How many of you willingly swap party members anyway? Wasn't that one of the major complaints about FF13? How it constantly puts you in control of characters you don't care about and doesn't even allow you to change the party leader? Well, this game lets you choose, and they chose Brono, Brog and Bobo. That may not be your personal favorite party, but you can't expect them to like Bucca as much as you do when they only used her when she was mandatory. Tough-fucking-luck.

I really wish they had stuck with the new party or at least not fallen back on what they just felt comfortable with. Nice to see they figured out confuse is a good attack though.

Yeah, but now all they're going to do is the same exact shit they always have, this time with Confuse XD

I was laughing uncontrollably at falling back upon the mighty Leap Strike, instead of seeing what a Frog Toss or Bubble Snap might do. For being lazy, they're making it take a lot of work.

I hope Lavos creams them...I want to see if they'll ever discover the majesty of Double V Bomb or Beast Toss.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Flea, Ozzie and Slash's names were suggestions from the translators girlfriend - But I can't find anything to confirm this.

Enjoying this endurance run, and watching the Persona 4 concurrently. The nerd rage vented on the GB staff for providing this bizarre, niche, excellent video content for free is pretty ridiculous, though. As much as you guys want to grab the controller, they're the ones playing it. Constructive comments are helpful, but no need to be a dick.

EDIT: Just heard Ryan say at the end "Someone will yell at us anyway, Patrick." Might as well be the motto of the endurance run.

Yes and we get to see how quickly they devolve when faced with a problem and blame the game/genre. I think they were doing great(relatively so) until like half a dozen quick looks back, and then the fucking Undersea Palace showed just how little they were paying attention to, well, anything. But hey whatever pops your pupae

You both are wrong. Yes, shoddyrobot, this play style of the Endurance Run is indicative of the way they actually play games both for reviews and for leisure.

On the other hand, CaptainInvictus and others getting angry about that very fact is just pitiful though. This is entertainment ladies and gentlemen nothing more.

Games Journalism is a fucking joke and all gaming websites and gaming publications are stupid and worthless. This website just happens to be filled with stupid worthless individuals that are entertaining to watch and listen to. The people on this website produce content for consumption and it happens to be very entertaining to many people.

The answer is very simple, if you don't like it then don't watch it. Leave.

Ligthen up, chill out, and enjoy the ride, or alternatively shut the fuck up.
