The steal mechanic is pretty well hidden in this game and the game never gives you any indication to use it, so can't blame them there. Having unique items that you can easily miss if you don't steal them from bosses is an old (bad) tradition in JRPGs.

Nope. Episode 28 was recorded live, like, a week ago.

@Paul_Is_Drunk: Indeed, I found it by accident after walking back from downing Ozzie. Would've never seen it naturally.

I can't believe they actually went for the trap-chest. Intentional comedic effect?

I hope these guys read this:

  • Switch back to Wait mode.
  • Consider using Byla. She can steal good items from enemies, and she could've stolen the Slasher 2, Ozzie Pants, and Flea Vest from the bosses. Also, Byla is the strongest physical fighter in the game.
  • Use Cure Wave already. If not, then swap out Bobo for Marle. Cure Beam isn't enough at this stage of the game.
  • If you're going to do all of the sidequests, then get prepared. If you think the sand skeleton is tough, then don't do the other sidequests since those bosses are even harder.
  • Switch to Wait mode. Yes, I said it twice.

Come on man, they are not Vinny and Jeff, they are not reading any of the comments.

"Hey, let's check out that Confuse tech."

They are definitely reading the comments.

Everyone has a go-to party, so I don't blame them for going back to it. I know they'll try some new combos on the other side quests though.

Once again, I rage. It's like every time I think they might be learning and getting a little smarter about how they play, they just start doing the same ridiculously stupid crap again and again.

Ryan! Pounding nails into your genitals is not going to help you! Doing it a dozen times in a row will not change that!

The best part? Chrono Trigger is one of the easiest JRPGs around. It has a few tricks now and then, but by and large it doesn't require grinding, switching out party members, equipment juggling, and so on. Chrono Trigger is a prime example of a JRPG made for the dumb masses, and it's still too much for these guys! No wonder they keep getting lost every ten minutes - there's no quest compass telling them exactly what to do and where to go at all times. Even the helper text that tells them exactly what the attack patterns and resistances/weaknesses of enemies are is apparently too subtle!

As for active vs. wait: active battle systems are inferior for handling high-level fights because it's harder to anticipate the attacks of enemies. Straight turn-based will always be superior when you're dealing with tricky stuff. It's a truth inherent to all turn-based vs. real-time systems and hybrid ones like active are at best compromises. If you want to have a better time managing battles, then don't use the option which, as its key feature, makes it more difficult in order to satisfy impatient players!

I'm so glad you experimented at least a little bit with giving the ladies a spot in the party. Unfortunate that it didn't seem to turn out too well, but that's fine. I guess I miss Barle and Bagus the most but as it stands the high-level and -tech GB squad seems to kick more than enough ass. Good job with holding your own in this sidequest by the way.

And on a final note: as weird as that ending was - all hail the feline overlords. That cat is the biggest bad-ass so far!

I think the best part about finally figuring out what confuse does, is Ryan used hypnowave like 4 times half the times on freaking bosses. Man soooooo much would be solved if they just looked at their full tech lists, including duals.

@Vortextk: I doubt looking at the techs would help. They already have proven they need about ten trial and error attempts to differentiate colour between enemies, and don't even bother to read the text that explains what the game functions actually do.

This is a classic case of "why isn't the game playing itself for me! I pressed all the buttons and everything! how am I supposed to know when to use my attacks without cooldowns telling me when I can?" and nothing will change that except for miraculous, spontaneous brain growth in the two test subjects.

@sear: I just...they....I....cure wave!!!! Lol they said it so many times. They looked at it so many times. I'm dying here. To anyone looking to respond, I'm not bitching, I'm enjoying watching it, I want to play my snes version over the ds version(I got halfway in and put it down) again because translations or not it's what I knew; like a dozen times. I also really don't like the anime cut scenes. I dislike toriyama's art compared to the sprites and I think they fit in incredibly awkwardly(watch this scene in "engine" and the exact same scene again). I do really like anime.

I just thought we had gotten past not understanding techs. 17 hours, not including deaths, that's an intense amount of time. Even spread out over the month+. I guess it's more of, I want them to understand, so they can enjoy it more. I don't know if that's super nerdy, selfish or dumb.

Although I agree with your sentiment, your argument is rendered invalid by the fact that they made it as far as they did.

But yeah, they 1) dont seem to read in-game instructions. 2) forget already learnt lessons within two sittings. 3) Still queue up all of their attacks, not considering that a boss might counter-attack.

It just gets harder and harder to imagine Ryan isn't playing dumb on purpose and Patrick is totally in on it. Endurance indeed!

No, it isn't. They've made it through the game just fine so far. Doing dumb things occasionally=/= not being able to handle the game.

As for active vs. wait: active battle systems are inferior for handling high-level fights because it's harder to anticipate the attacks of enemies.

So what? like you said, CT is incredibly easy.

I'm sure you already know this, but in Ozzie's Fort, in the room where the poor imp gets sliced and diced by Ozzie, if you go down into the "black area" in the lower right part of the screen, you'll come to an area offering the best stuff for Bagus, and a Magic Tab.

I don't think you guys need to swap out characters to exchange equipment. You should be able to just scroll down on the equip menu to see the rest of the characters' equipment. I think that's why you see a flashing arrow pointing down when selecting a character on that menu. I think I had Bagus in my part during the Ozzie side quest which causes some contextual dialogue moments. Though I guess the whole point of the game is differences in character lines in cut scenes. Keep going guys I think you're almost done.

If they switch to Wait mode at all then I'm done with this Endurance Run. Chrono Trigger isn't about the lame ass wait mode. It shouldn't even have been an option. It'd double, or hell, TRIPLE their time in boss fights (Because they'd discuss what ability to use ad naseum) and wouldn't be fun to watch at all.

Just because YOU rage like a kid when they screw up doesn't mean us non sub-humans don't find it entertaining.

Wow, Patrick and Ryan are so incredibly smelly at this game. When I watch it, I fell like poo poo. My Daddy said that if they don't stop being smelly and terrible he will beat them up for me. And, if I'm good, I can eat some ice-cream before I go to bed. I hope I dont wee my bed, then I will smell like Patrick and Ryan because they are doo-doo heads!

Now, say the above back to yourself aloud but in a whiney making-fun-of you kind of voice and you have my completely accurate impersonation of the type of person who actually gets upset about a video no one is forcing them to watch on the internet.

They are clearly reading comments. Patrick even said 'Cure Wave' and then corrected and said Cure Beam. Not one mention of it before and now after comments were spammed with it...

So I'm going to stop reading the comments on these from now on. People complained about wanting another endurance run, and now that they get it they complain because they aren't perfect.

They are doing fine, really. Part of playing a game for the first time is sucking, and they still seem to be doing decently. I missed about every secret my first run of Chrono Trigger, so they aren't doing THAT awful (I also had the worst team ever solely because I liked more characters than others).

So come on. Just watch 'em play. Though I'm going to assume the damage is done based on Ryan's twitter; this'll probably be the last Endurance Run because some people can't just calm down and enjoy what they asked for.

I rented this game multiple, multiple times back in my elementary school games, but never got very far. I'm learning so much via this Endurance Run!

EDIT: I'm fairly sure they are aware of Cure Wave and what it does, they're just playing the odds and thinking it's better to use two characters to attack and one to defend rather than the other way around.

For being the first time playing trough this game, they are doin g pretty well. They should stick to wait rather then active because Ryan is allways a bit slow, but other then that they have managed well troughout. All the people raging need to remember that MOST people DON'T know every secret of the game. I personally would have played it differently from them, but they are doing well so stop flaming, jeez:P

Was there a New Game+ mode in Chrono Trigger? It's been a while since I've played it.

So, that character that has a heal-all dual tech with Brono? You had it in your party. Hint: It's name starts with a B.

This is the best Endurance Run, simply because the childish nerd rage in every comments page.

this!

Yeah, that's extra enjoyment.

The only comments I see that complain and bitch are those that complain that other comments are bitching even though there are few. If you don't like complaining and bitching in the comments then stop doing it because you are the ones doing it.

What's worse: complaining or bitching about complaining?

I think the latter is worse.

Re-quoting this is funny in itself.
