Typical Brad behavior blaming the game is broken when he can't turn and shoot the obviously slow moving Axes. Wouldn't even try. Just blame.

Brad, I don't know if you'll ever run across this or if this was recorded weeks ago so you have no reason to watch these videos again and check the comments, but READ THEM.  READ THIS.  It's what someone else and I wrote last night.  It's not an attack, it's not a personal assault, it's the truth, and recognizing and at least attempting to overcome your flaws will make you a better gamer, and consequently a more trustworthy reviewer.

" These dueling endurance runs are a great demonstration on why you should attack obstacles with a positive outlook. The VJ run accepted the shortcomings of this game, made the best of them, and got through the game without too much trouble. BR are having a much worse time. Their apathy, scorn, and frustration seem to get in the way and they end up lost and dead much more, generally accompanied by tons of complaining. All four guys are obviously very capable game players, but attitude seems to divide how much enjoyment they get out of the game and how well they do in it. Luckily for us, both ERs are fun. "
This.  Almost precisely this.  The game's core mechanics aren't great, we all know that, but BR (well, Brad) has not wrapped his mind around that.  Instead of working WITH the game to have a good time, he just expects the game to hand him fun on a silver platter.  And he especially wants his hand to be held, so when he does something  that would be stupid in ANY video game, he gets pissed off when he fails.  The controls aren't good and the aiming isn't good.  Having played it or not, we all get that.  Not every game, for better or worse,  is going to be a 100% visceral experience like Uncharted 2.   Team VJ were upset with the game's flaws at times, but they know how to enjoy it, for the most part.  While Brad is like the kid in the woods playing with sticks and rocks, constantly complaining to his friends that "This all isn't real!", not letting himself suspend his disbelief to have fun with what he has. "

Really? I found GTA IV's car driving to be pretty smooth. The cars had weight and you needed to adjust properly to turn, it wasn't arcade-y like San Andreas, Saint's Row 2 or Mercenaries. After a while of playing it, you get used to the driving and can control it really easily and really well.

I laughed at their reaction to the burning fast zombies, that's great. Also: Shotgun to the face at the firing range (twice!). Oh BR, you're awesome.

Oh dayumn, got axed on the boss! I love the song that plays during the fight.

Good fight, good fight.

It's amazing how every single time there's a gameplay change, Ryan instantly knows what to do (e.g. shoot the axe) and Brad doesn't. And rather than giving Ryan's suggestion a chance, Brad just disagrees and doesn't do it.

And by the way, kick ass job on George the Troll Doll, Brad.  You must have felt like keeling over at the end just like York.
And no, unlike everyone else posting here I wouldn't have done as well and would have taken more tries on George and would have done worse at figuring out the attack pattern on my own.  I would probably check a FAQ for help after getting killed.
But I'm only an amateur gamer, unlike all the experts here.

I think Vinny probably is at the right level to most of the people on the site (and he's hardly "world class"), and we're only asking of Brad to be as half as good as him.

I'm a pretty average gamer... which means I usually won't see the Game Over screen.  That is, unless I'm trying to talk to someone at the same time as playing, or being talked to - then I actually see it quite a bit.  It's harder to divert your attention in that way than most folks here probably realize.  Like talking on a cell phone while learning how to drive.  Horrible wreck: imminent.

But whether it's explainable or not isn't the important thing, I suppose.  If you're not having fun watching it, then that's fine.  I'm just not into the whole ' thinking less of someone for dying in a video game' thing.  It's like a weird kind of elitism going on... not that such a thing is never not weird.

You should probably watch more Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

But what you really need to do is calm down on the internet rage.  So far you've dropped dickface and twat on me just because i'm one of a hundred people here who voiced the opinion that it was his fault he died a lot in this game.  If you can't handle a justified negative comment, get off the internet.  Maybe watch some Always Sunny DVDs.

Um, no. Shinri, Roomrunner is right. Brad is terrible at this game, and you're being a bit of a jerk with all the name calling. Stop being so defensive about harmless, truth-based opinions about people you don't  even know, dude. Brad is still a great guy, but he is awful at Deadly Premonition. Jeff, Vinny, and Ryan are sharper at it than he is. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with this opinion, or with stating this opinion. Granted, this is a bad game to begin with, but Vinny proves that it is possible to get through it without dying 18 times and wandering aimlessly trying to solve puzzles that can be solved with relatively little effort.

Bottom line: They're just comments. Chillax, Holmes; and don't tell people to grow up when you're the one calling them "twat" and "dickface". (And I'm sorry, but I have to LOL at your implication that arguing on the Internet is something that requires the arguers to have to "grow up" before they can do it. That hardly seems true.)

At no point in this conversation did you do more than make baseless insults.  I will not stoop to the level of which you think arguing is.  If you can't handle anything lower than praise for the ER players (all four of which I enjoy listening to though the whole thing), well then that's a shame.      It's no big deal to call someone out when they mess up.  We're all adults with tough skin.

I just finished the next episode, and Brad did great against the final boss.  It's no grudge.  I just comment on whatever has stuck out most to me in each ep.

Exactly. "VJ-tards"? Really? Why are so many of you defensive to the point of insulting people with opposing opinions? We're getting frustrated that Brad keeps making obvious, clumsy mistakes and extremely poor choices. Ryan advises him to do something that ultimately turns out to be correct, and Brad shrugs it off. It is not a crime, and it does not make me a "VJ-tard," as you so eloquently put it, to expect a little bit more competence out of Brad. Vinny can do it. Jeff and Ryan, while not hands-on, seem to at least grasp the mechanics of the game more than Brad. As I've said a million times over, Brad is not a bad guy. I like him and his banana mouth a lot. But those of us who criticize him fairly (which does not include the people insulting him and cursing him out; that's too much) have entirely valid opinions.

I am not a great video game player, and I hate this sort of video game, but even I could do ten times better than Brad, even with Ryan talking in my ear. It's understandably frustrating to sit here and listen to him complain, episode after episode, all while he's quite visibly the cause of much of his own misery. In the future, please be more teachable, Brad. Listen to people's advice. Be more cautious. Please.

I will agree that some people take it too far. I don't think it's right to insult Brad or curse him out or anything. But to say that he's doing terribly at this game, that he's making obvious mistakes? I think it's something he probably ought to hear. I mean, if a ton of people told me I was doing something wrong, that would indicate to me that maybe I should examine what I'm doing, see if their criticism is valid, and maybe try to improve and learn from their criticisms. It's not elitist to expect someone to take advice and learn from it, or to expect them to learn from their mistakes. I don't critique Brad to be cruel, I critique him because I really want to see him do well. When Brad does something competently in the ER, it makes me happy.

I guess all that doesn't really matter at this point in the run, but it does make me question some of Brad's negative game reviews. How many games that he didn't like were just games that he was too poor of a player to understand? Of course, I'm not saying that's always the case, or even that it's often the case; and I'm not saying he's petty enough to score a game badly just because it's too difficult for him. It does, however, make one have some doubts. Again, I like Brad, but if he's involved in the gaming world professionally, he should probably be a bit more flexible and adaptive as a player. Deadly Premonition does not appear to be so horrible a game that it's unplayable, as Vinny has demonstrated.

@Sharpless: By "VJ-tards" I meant people who decided to blast Brad and Ryan for not being Vinny and Jeff and also decided to talk openly about the presumed events of the episode because Team VJ finished the game earlier. I didn't want to insult anyone (unless someone got a bit too obnoxious with the hate), I could've clarified that or change the tone, as some people got my drift and some did not.

Brad can be annoying as fuck, I want to punch someone too when he obviously screws up (the first half of his rambling through the police station, oh God!) but sometimes it just gets to the point where he's blasted for things that are logical or not his fault (the axe whack from episode 40 [the first time] or why he panicked when the game took control from him during George's boss fight). Not to mention the fact that some people think this run is shit because Brad and Ryan aren't Vinny and Jeff, not only gameplay-wise. Like they wanted the VJ episodes to be double-posted every day.

And I don't remember spoiling any crazy bits in the VJ run when Team BR was a bit further than them. It's minor shit mostly, like the face-hook bit, but come on, that part was good for most of the viewers because they didn't expect that precisely. At least now there's nothing to spoil.

Something amazing about Deadly Premonition just dawned on me.

Every single time one of the guys reacted aloud in response to something happening in-game, the game said the exact same thing a moment or two later.

And this is true for both ER pairs.   This happened repeatedly.

How mind blowing is that?  SWERY and crew actually looked at their game, or had others look at it fresh and voiced exactly the thoughts reactions their scene or plot point or whatever, evoked from someone watching or playing it.

As it keeps happening you realize it wasn't a single lucky fluke.  Just one of dozens of seemingly small elements that keep piling up until you realize, "Hey, that wasn't so minor after all, there is some real genius in game design here."

Imagine this same attention to detail coupled with a larger number of people and a newer engine for graphical prettiness.

To quote one of history's greatest minds, "Whoa!."
