Cloud's turtleneck vest has NEVER looked any better than now!

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

Jeff and Brad both sound cautiously optimistic about a game. Why are people calling them "out of touch"?

Because Brad misinterpreted a game mechanic, and some thematic / plot intricacies of a 20 year old RPG? If you watch the whole video, you'll realise that they are looking forward to playing the final product, and think it looks cool!

I've played FFVII to completion multiple times since its release, and even I don't remember some of this stuff. I really don't think its relevant to their sentiment, which was positive.

I don't see why it's some huge ask to want them to give out factual and correct information about a game they are doing a video on. And this isn't even the first time they've done this, Valkyria Chronicles 4 QL had Jan and Ben assuming the game was racist because they misread a word, and they misread something during the stadia stream that they actually went and corrected which is a huge surprise, normally they just ignore it.

Who benefits from a video where a chunk of the discussion is useless because they misinterpreted a basic game mechanic? And if they keep getting things wrong like this in games I'm familiar with why would I ever trust their word when they are talking about a game I don't know? I'm not asking them to remember every plot point from a game that came out in 1997, I'm asking them to know things about a game they just played and are doing a video on.

@ares42: Yes, the thing releasing in a few weeks is only the first 10%-20% of Final Fantasy 7. It is unclear how promptly future parts of the game will be released, on what platforms they will be released, and how much they will cost. Unless I missed some communication somewhere, Square Enix has been pretty tight lipped about the overall plans for how long the entire remake will take to make.

@bisonhero: well, that kills pretty much any slight interest I got after watching this. I guess I'll check back in 2021 =)

Looks like a good remake, but I will only buy big games like this on PC these days. Maybe it'll get a release there one day. The episodic nature is bummer as well.

I will give the game this, with the improved graphics and the spoken dialogue you certainly get a better feel for the characters. I found Biggs, Wedge and Jessie utterly forgettable in the 1997 game, if you talk me they utter the same dialogue this time around I woudl ask, "Really!!!?"

However, In my mind's eye, this is not what I thought Wedge looked like...

I was thinking more young cocky John Belushi with stubble. In the game he is played like an overly tall and stout 12 years old that needs constant encouragement. I think that is too much baby face. There is a certain morphology to an adult male face that Wedge lacks.

Ths looks less like a Wedge and more like a Ricky.

...don't be a Ricky

@garr123: Yeah FF7 was remembered for things that weren't actually the most interesting parts about it. It's literally about a megacorp using a type of energy generation that's killing the earth. You're eco-terrorists living in the slums literally underneath the good part of the city. Your first mission is blowing up a power plant. It's not like we didn't know about global warming back then, either; they knew what the connections were when they made the game.
It's a wild story that is delightfully weird, but it is rooted in the consequences of greed, exploitation and inequality where you're a bunch of deeply damaged souls who won't even let themselves understand who they are. I don't think it ever comes close to making an actual systemic critique, but FF7 is way more interesting than I think people remember it being.

Well, I was kinda on board right up until they hit the point where building a break meter on an enemy became a thing. That mechanic was in FFXIII as well and I can say it was one of the worst things about the combat in that game. It adds pretty much nothing to a combat scenario other that to artificially pad the length and make it 1000% more tedious to get through a fight.

And what the hell is so wrong with a straight turn based combat system anyway? It worked really well in FFX and Dragon Quest.

Yeah, this does remind me a bunch of FF 13
