Why a controller for Doom?

@chalkcharmer: Mouse-control for cameras can be really snappy and jittery. For the sake of the viewer/production, and to have a generally smoother look, they preferred showing the game w/ a controller.

Is this very quiet for anyone else? Really good quality audio but I can't hear very well and unfortunately I am on a macbook and can't turn the volume up any higher or I would.

I love that they worry about Doom's performance but leave 8X Transparent Multisampling enabled.

@korwin: You know the weird thing is that I am getting almost 0 frames (or at least not anything noticeable) of difference between no AA and any other type of AA for this game, SMAA or 8xTSAA

Is it just me, or is this video kinda quiet? (As compared to, say, the UPF.)

Hahaha! It consistently blows me away when they somehow overlook anti-aliasing for being the resource hog that it generally is. Obviously there are all kinds of different forms of AA that make exponentially different degrees of a performance impact out there but if you're worried about performance then that should be one of the first things you go and check out and I feel like everyone who works for this site should really know that by now. Maybe just a live stream oversight, but it's a consistent one.

It doesn't really bother me, just surprises me and provides me a good chuckle when I see their settings screen and want to reach through and tweak things hahaha.

@chalkcharmer: because some people would rather play with a controller than kb/m. Not really some shocking revelation.

Love it. I was kind of drunk when I watched this live yesterdaty. And watching it now... I hate myself.

To be fair, I think Austin mentioned it for a second there, but yes! AA is always my first choice for a bit of extra performance, probably even to my detriment sometimes. Often I'd rather play at 1440p60 than have even the slightest bit of post processing.

I wish he was, but I totally get why he isn't seeing as he doesn't work for GB and has his own stuff to take care of.

I really do like how laid back he is and enjoy his presence on the Beastcast quite a bit.

Probably should not have watched this right after the Doom QL, probably should've broken it up with Unprofesh or something. Ended up doing a lot of Doom in a row. I mean, I guess it's fine since I watched most of the QL when I was dead tired last night and drifting off but still.

@riven53: We'd love to have Jeff on more often, but that dude has a full time job! Any time you see him appearing on our stuff is time he's donating (and time he can't be working on his own projects for Cnet).

All this breaking of limbs, I think the plot twist is that the Doom Guy is Steven Seagal.

I just went back to the last video they did with the old microphones to compare the audio with this video and, oh my god, the audio in this video is like miles ahead better, it's so much better that the audio on previous videos sounds likes something from the old century where we think "how could have we been fine with that?!"

@mems1224: It is to me. A fast paced shooter like this? Nah. Not really even a contest IMO. But hey, to each their own. Just not as enjoyable to watch, again IMO.

I was never a Doom guy. but I'm glad a premise as patently absurd as "Demons invade Mars" has been grandfathered in to modern video games.

@chalkcharmer: why is it not enjoyable to watch? A kb/m won't automatically make someone better at a game.

I will say one thing about Doom 4 (hah!) it looks wonderful.

Well, two: the "visceral" kills are quick and dirty rather than mastabatorily lurid that gets real old real quick thruout the game.

I love new content just like everyone else. But it is really nerve wracking to see you guys struggling with technical stuff all the time. I wish some of the premium money would go into better hardware, like new computers / GPUs regulary. I mean the new mics are a start tho.

I really like the format of this show, having the crew at the same table gives more focus to the game on display. Unprofessional Fridays sometimes devolve into couch talk with the person playing forgotten.
